Fourteen Year Old Syndrome

"I just remembered. Everything."

"You remembered?"

"This is a video game world."

"Game? Like cards and chess?"

"Does your highness know what a simulation game is?"

"I don't know."

"It's a game where there's a storyline and you play as that character."

"Oh, there might have been something like that. The one where there is a story and you the reader makes the choices. What was it called.... ah something like choose your own adventure books but they are rare to be seen."

"It's one of those games," she said.

".... It's played on a game console, and you control the main character in it and play through the game world."

This girl is amazing. Her imagination is amazing. If you could really do something like that, I think that would be a very interesting game.

"Well, I was playing that game. This world right now is the world of the game I was playing. I was dead once, I was reborn, and I came to this world. I'm not from this world."

What an incredible setting it is --------! It only impresses me.

"What do you mean?"

"I was reincarnated in this world and came from another world. Before, I was in a country called Japan, on Earth."

"You mean you have memories of a previous life?"

"Yes,"

"But you were born and raised in this duke's family, and you're ten years old."

"Yes. When I saw His Highness's face, the memories of those days suddenly flooded my mind and filled my head with them, and I started feeling dizzy.... as if I was drowning from all the memories flooding in."

Dear sister. I have a problem that is out of my control.

Should I take her as my wife, love her and make her happy?

How can I do that when I can't even understand what my future wife is talking about?

"That's a lot of work ..."

Maybe I should say something witty here? I have no idea...

"So, what were you before you were born in this world?"

"I used to be sickly since I was a little girl. I was hospitalized frequently for one chronic illness then the other. I could barely go out let alone even go to school. I was weak and bed ridden all the time….."

"You look fine now…. No, you did go unconscious last time we met so there is still something there."

"I was in the hospital for a long period of time and my illness got worse and worse and I died when I was ten years old."

We really are talking about something heavy.

"Are you sure it wasn't just a dream that you had?"

"It's not a dream. It may sound like a dream to you b…but it's true."

Ohhhhhh. What am I going to do? Should I ask her more about this and entertain this dream of her's?

"So, how do you know this world is a game world?"

"It's because everything looks exactly like the game I used to play when I was in the hospital."

"Do you remember what that game was about?"

"Yes,"

"I'd like to hear it."

Yes, I know this kind of thing. It's a typical situation about a child who gets hooked on reading a novel or watching an adventure play on the streets. Those children then lose the ability to distinguish between reality and fantasy, and becomes the protagonist, as if he or she were the main character in their world.

It's called the Fourteen Year Old Syndrome. It's also called the 14 year old disease.

You know it's when children start to hold their eyes and say

"My eyes… my left eye…"

And shout things like:

"Guh! Quiet! My black dragon seal!"

And then they would hold their bandaged hand even though there is no injury on it.

There are people who sometimes claim to even use magic. I know a noble's son who claimed he could use power like a great wizard too but always said it was sealed.

I've seen great wizards and it takes years to master magic. It isn't something that convenient.

Normally, as the name suggests, people are obsessed with such things from around the age of 14, but this young lady must be very mature to have done so at the age of 10.

In this case, you try to listen to her as much as possible and say,

"That's great!

And,

"That's amazing--!"

The first step is to appear understanding and listen to the whole story. Then you're supposed to find holes and gaps in that story and try to reason with them logically. Little by little you're supposed to bring them back to reality. Although it isn't the greatest method but the only one I know.
