10 The 'Real' Delilah

Delilah looked at the man with doubt. "Don't tell me you're suspecting Lucas Lee... That's ridiculous! Why would he try to hit me with his car? He would never do that," she said as she tried to defend her 'future husband'.

Noah frowned, "You know nothing about him. Lucas Lee is evil. This is not the first time he's hurt a woman. Trust me, he's done much worse. Why do you think he's still single?"

"If that's true, then why isn't he in prison and why hasn't anyone in Hong Kong or the US heard about it. The paparazzi would be all over it!" Delilah said as she rolled her eyes.

"That's because it's all a cover-up! Rich people like Lucas Lee can do whatever they..."

Before the man finished his sentence, Delilah quickly interrupted, "Stop! I've heard enough of your conspiracy theory. I don't know who you are and what you're trying to do, but I will call the police if you don't leave immediately!"

Noah looked at the woman with a slightly offended expression. "I'm just trying to protect you. How do I benefit from doing this? I'm honestly worried that you are in serious danger..." he explained with an innocent look in his eyes.

Delilah could sense that the man was being genuine, but she covered her ears and ignored him. Lucas was too big of a catch for her to give up over mere speculations from a stranger. "Get out!" she yelled as she pointed at the door.

Noah sighed and grabbed the door handle, "You just wait! I'll find evidence and prove it to you! In the meantime, I suggest you keep your distance from Lucas Lee."

After leaving these final words, he turned around and left.

...

Lucas Lee had been on 10 blind dates that year and many more before that. Ever since he discovered that he could scare women away and stop them from clinging to him, never once had the women stuck around for longer than 30 minutes. Yet, not only had Maya not left, she exposed his act, outsmarted him, and actually held a proper conversation with him about a topic that seemed out of her reach.

"Mr. Toidi..." he laughed as he thought about the strange name that she had given the two women he hired. He didn't notice earlier, but now that he thought about it — 'Toidi' was 'Idiot' spelled backwards!

Through the glass doors, Lucas ran his eyes across the woman's face. On social media, she looked, ditzy, narcissistic, and irritating, but the woman in front of him did not have the same vibe. In fact, now that he thought about it, this woman seemed to have ordered quite a lot of food for someone that appeared to be constantly on diets. How could a person be so different in real life? Was she...

...putting on an act just like him?

Lucas considered the possibility. Perhaps, deep down, he was hopeful that he was actually facing the 'real Delilah' now. After all, the current Delilah was a lot more fascinating than the one on social media...

He looked at the woman in detail, and for the first time that night, he actually noticed how attractive she was. Her eyes were covered in thick makeup...but there was a gentleness in her gaze. Her nose was tall...but as she pointed it in the air, she looked elegant and confident rather than snobby. Her lips were lush and painted in a showy wine red color...but they looked natural...soft...and inviting...

Lucas' lips curved upwards slightly. If this woman was putting on an act...then it was his turn to uncover it...

Returning to the table, Lucas tried to contain his amusement. He was like a child that was about to play a prank on his teacher, and he couldn't wait to see the result.

Sitting down, he revealed a charming smile and teased, "I see entree has arrived. Were you waiting for me?"

Maya looked at the oysters and felt her stomach grumble. She was so distracted earlier, that she had completely forgotten how hungry she was. Subconsciously licking her lips, she replied in a casual tone, "I thought it would be rude if I didn't."

"Well...I'm back now. Enjoy your meal..."

Maya clapped her hands together and immediately reached forward to grab one of the oysters. But...just as she did...the man suddenly said, "Oh, what a surprise! I thought you would take a photo first. I've seen your social media. You seem to document a lot about your life on there."

Maya paused and looked at the man in surprise. Had Lucas Lee seen Delilah's social media? Did that mean that he knew more about Delilah than she thought he did? She had to be extra careful.

Trying not to look flustered, Maya grabbed one of the oysters, raised it towards one of the chandeliers hanging from the roof, and snapped a photo with her phone like it had been her intention all along. The composition of the photo was perfect with the oyster showing clearly in the front and the chandelier slightly blurred out in the back.

After snapping her photo, Maya quickly put her phone away and excitedly lifted the oyster to her lips. The oysters were freshly imported from France, and she couldn't wait to taste the flavor. But...the man interrupted once again, "Oh, I thought you'd post the photo straight away. I wanted to see it," he said with disappointment as he looked at his phone. His screen was opened up to Delilah's social media account.

Maya sighed and put the oyster down. She then grabbed her phone again and clicked open her social media app. The man was right, Delilah documented everything about her life like a livestream; she had been following her sister on social media and noticed this too. But just as the app loaded, she suddenly froze and her mouth felt dry...

The man noticed her expression and looked at her with curiosity. "What's wrong?" he asked.

Maya bit her lip and gave herself a mental slap in the head. How could she have forgotten? She didn't have Delilah's account details! How was she supposed to post the photo up?

"Do you need help with a caption?" the man asked smugly.
