Never Trust a Stranger

12:30am, New Year's Day, Las Vegas Police Department.

Maya sat inside the temporary holding cell and looked through the metal bars at Lucas with a sigh. Women and men were separated into different holding cells and they were each surrounded by their fair share of drunken new year offenders.

"Let me out! I simply peed in the bush! There was no toilet around," a woman babbled.

"That b*st*rd touched my girl! Let me out so I can teach him another lesson!" a man yelled.

"More drinks...more drinks... Happy new year!" another man laughed as he rolled around on the ground.

Maya had enjoyed spending the night with the man and relishing in the freedom that she hadn't felt for a long time, but who knew, not even half an hour into her new year, her freedom was stripped away from her again and she was arrested for trespassing. Previously, she had been tied down by work, but now, she was tied down by the law.

This was Maya's first time breaking the law and being arrested so she was a little frightened, but what worried her even more, was the fact that all the ID on her body said...she was 'Maya Yeung'. Worst of all, she had no one to call for help but her sister 'Delilah Yeung'. Her original plan was to reveal the truth to Lucas calmly on the rooftop. Not here in this crazy police cell!

"Mr. Lee, Miss Yeung, you have the right to make a phone call. Is there anyone you would like to contact?" a police officer asked as he walked up to the bars of the cell.

Lucas glanced at Maya and said softly with a reassuring smile, "I'm sorry that I got you arrested, but I guarantee that I will get us out of here. Would you like to make a phone call to tell your family that you're OK first? After that, I will call my assistant to come and bail us out."

Maya looked at the man's apologetic expression. Logically, she knew she should be mad at him. But when she thought about the night carefully, it wasn't like he held a knife to her neck and forced her to scale a ladder, 6 flights of stairs, and even a rope. She could have turned back at any time and refused, but she didn't. In fact, she had to admit that she enjoyed it.

If anything, they were in on this together; she couldn't blame him.

So she nodded her head gently and said, "I'll be right back," before she followed the officer out of the cell. Either way, she had to let Delilah know what was happening.

Lucas watched as the woman disappeared from his line of sight. Slowly, his smile disappeared and he furrowed his brows. How did the police know that they were there? The alleyway was empty, there were no security cameras, and the offices in the vicinity were unoccupied; he had made sure of it before he led the woman up with him...

Did someone report them? Who was it?

Out in the admin area of the station, Maya continued to follow the officer until she arrived at a desk with a phone. But before the officer allowed her to make her call, he sat her down and said with a concerned look on his face, "Miss Yeung, before you make your call, there's something I want to ask you. Were you aware of the items in Mr. Lee's backpack?"

Maya raised an eyebrow with curiosity, "His backpack? He has a grappling hook and some rope that we used to get onto the rooftop. But I assure you, he meant no harm. We were simply watching the fireworks."

The officer frowned. "Simply watching the fireworks? How well do you know Mr. Lee?"

Maya hesitated for a moment. She knew her answer would sound a bit ridiculous but she had to tell the truth, "We met for the first time tonight."

The officer knitted his brows together, placed his hands on the desk, and leaned forward, "Miss Yeung, I want you to remain calm. I would like to show you something."

As Maya watched with confusion the officer went to fetch something and returned with a bag. The bag was clear and the contents were clearly visible. "This is everything that we found in Mr. Lee's backpack," the officer explained.

Maya didn't understand what was happening, but when she leaned forward and slowly looked at the items, her eyes opened wide in surprise. Apart from the grappling hook and rope, there was also a knife, a bag of white powder, some gloves, and duct tape. Why was Lucas carrying this stuff around?

"We've sent the white powder for testing, but I must say, these items are very suspicious," the officer said. "Is there anything else you can tell us about Mr. Lee?"

Maya stared at the items blankly and mumbled, "I don't know him that well, but he doesn't seem like a bad person..."

Just as she said this, a voice behind her suddenly said, "You can never trust a stranger, Miss Yeung."

Maya turned around in surprise and watched as a blond-haired man approached her. "There's a lot that you don't know about Lucas Lee," he said with a stern look on his face.

Maya was confused at first, but it only took her a couple of minutes before she realized who this man was. She had met him earlier. It was Noah Thompson, Lucas Lee's personal driver!

The police officer looked at Noah and raised an eyebrow, "You are...?"

Noah sat down beside Maya and said, "I'm here to bail Miss Yeung out."

He then turned to Maya and whispered, "Delilah sent me. You're safe now."

Maya looked at the man in surprise, "You know Delilah?"

...

Over at the hospital, Delilah, Sam, and Tiffany were popping party poppers and throwing streamers around the room as they celebrated the new year.

"Have you received any updates from Maya yet?" Tiffany asked as she pulled out a bag of confetti.

Delilah grabbed some of the confetti and threw it in her friend's face. "Not yet. But I guess, no news is good news..." she replied with a laugh, completely oblivious that her sister had been arrested and was currently at the police station...

As it turned out...Noah had lied...
