29 He's So Into You

Due to staying up late the previous night, Delilah did not expect visitors until later in the day. But, to her surprise, when she opened her eyes at 10am, Sam was already in her room with two bags of food. "I thought you might be hungry, so I got you breakfast," he said casually.

Although Vegas was famous for its nightlife, there were a few popular breakfast spots in the city and Sam had woken up early to order from them. He had always been thoughtful like this, especially when it came to Delilah.

"Where's Tiff?" Delilah asked curiously when she saw that the man was alone.

"Still sleeping," Sam replied as he helped her sit up in her bed. He then placed a colorful salad bowl in front of her. "I know you're on a diet, but breakfast is the most important meal of the day so I got you this healthy salad bowl. Try some, it will help you heal faster."

Delilah glanced at Sam. Today, he was dressed in a cute grey sweater with an Aztec print, paired with a pair of washed-up jeans. She often felt that her best friend was very stylish and good-looking. "I don't understand why you're still single," she teased. "How long has it been since you last had a boyfriend?"

Sam cleared his throat and handed Delilah a fork. "You're single too. I'm still waiting for the right one," he answered casually.

Delilah tapped on his head with her fork. "Hey, I'm not single anymore. Don't forget, I'm going to be Mrs. Lucas Lee soon," she smiled proudly.

Sam nodded his head as he tried to hide his disappointment, "Did Maya get back to you about her blind date last night?"

Delilah nodded her head as she placed a piece of kale in her mouth, "There was a slight hiccup, but she's on another date with him today."

"Oh?" Sam said with interest, "What are they doing today?"

Delilah glanced at the clock on the wall, "Lucas should have just picked her up. They are headed to the Grand Canyon! That lucky b*tch better thank me. I've always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon."

After she was done speaking, she scooped up some avocado and placed it in her mouth, licking her lips with satisfaction.

As Sam watched her eat, he felt slightly entranced. Even after all these years, she was still just as beautiful as when they first met. Back when Delilah first started thinking that he was gay and she kissed him, he simply played along because he was a teenager going through puberty. What teenage boy would turn down a kiss from a beautiful teenage girl? But as time went by, he began to develop more complicated feelings for his best friend. He missed her when he didn't see her, his heart fluttered when she did certain things, and he felt jealous when he saw her with other guys.

"Did Maya mention anything about Lucas' appearance or personality? Are you still sure that you want to marry him?" Sam asked.

Delilah nodded her head with certainty. "You know better than I do that neither of those matter," she replied.

Just as she finished talking, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," she called out as she put her salad bowl aside.

The door opened and a young male doctor walked in. Like a model, he was tall, slim, he had a thick head of wavy blond hair, his eyes were blue like sapphires, and his teeth were perfectly straight and white. "I see you're eating breakfast," the doctor said with a smile. "That's good. It will help you heal faster."

He then walked up to Delilah's bed and introduced himself, "My name is Mason Brown, I am an intern here and I've been asked to take care of you while you recover. Can I take a look at your nose and see the progress?"

Delilah looked into the man's eyes and felt like she had been hypnotized. Without saying a word, she nodded her head.

The young doctor chuckled and leaned over to gently remove the bandage on her nose. As he did so, Delilah stared at him in a daze while Sam watched with an uncomfortable frown.

"Doctor, are you single?" Delilah asked as she fluttered her eyelashes.

The doctor replaced her bandage, stepped back, and smiled. "I'm still waiting for the right one," he answered sincerely. He then glanced at Sam, "I'm not as lucky as you to have someone that would wake up early to buy you breakfast from one of the busiest breakfast spots in Vegas. The line for that place is always out the door. Your boyfriend's not bad."

The moment that he stepped into the room, Mason had noticed the salad and knew where it had been bought from. That cafe was so busy that he never had the time to eat there even though it wasn't too far from the hospital.

Delilah glanced at the salad in surprise. No wonder it was so tasty. How long did Sam wait to order breakfast for her? However, she quickly brushed that thought aside, waved her hands and said, "Oh, he's not my boyfriend, don't misunderstand. He's more like a girlfriend." She winked as she said this and the doctor blushed. "Oh, sorry, I misunderstood," he said. He then scribbled a few notes on her records and turned towards the door, "Everything seems fine, I'll check on you again tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your breakfast."

As he walked out, he took a quick glance at Sam and smiled.

"I thought you were set on being the future Mrs. Lee. Are you still looking for a last fling?" Sam teased after the man was gone, although he was a little upset deep down. Even after all these years, he still couldn't get used to Delilah's flirting.

Delilah grinned and shook her head, she wasn't actually interested in the man at all. She was just testing him. "Couldn't you tell?" she asked teasingly.

"Tell what?" Sam asked, oblivious to what his best friend was trying to say.

"Dr. Brown...was soooo into you!" Delilah chuckled. "Do you want me to set you up?"

Sam glanced toward the door in surprise. So into him? Sure enough, he saw the young doctor taking a sneaky peek into the room. As soon as their eyes met, he blushed and walked away. Delilah was right. No wonder Dr. Brown was praising him for being a good boyfriend.

Sam couldn't help but laugh; he didn't know whether to feel relieved or not...
