Chapter 1: A bothersome dream

SCREEEEEECH!!

CRASH!!

And a man was sent flying into the windscreen of a parked car on the road side.

'AHHHHH ! Some one call an ambulance quickly!!'. Many people ran around screaming frantically.

Panic filled the air as the man's almost lifeless body was rammed into the glass, his body bruised and bleeding as part of his body was embedded in the glass. He bled profusely. The car that hit him was moving so fast that the driver failed to notice the red light earlier before it was too late.

A young lady stood on the side lines. Hearing the persistent screams ringing in her ears, watching the man who was injured. He painfully stretched one of his bloddy hands towards her direction. His entire being begging for help. Pain, Agony and Blood.

So much blood!

She was petrified. She couldn't take it anymore, she screamed out loudly

"AHHHHH!" and jolted awake.

It was all a dream!

She took a few deep breaths to try calm herself 'Another one', she thought. She got up from her bed and took a few steps to the dressing table in the corner where a bottle of water was placed. She took a few gulps of water and let out a huge sigh.

"What is it this time", She slowly mumbled.

"Emily!", she heard her mother call her from outside the room. "Emily, is everything alright. I heard a scream", Her mom said on the other side of the door, worried.

"I'm okay mom, just another dream"

"Do you remember it this time?"

"No.... I don't "

Her mom sighed hearing her reply. This wasn't new to her however. Her daughter Emily never remembered her dreams.

"Okay sweetie, Go back to bed okay?'

"Yes mom"

They both went back to bed as though nothing happened.....

In the morning.

Emily Quinn let out a loud yawn. The morning birds chirped and Little rays of sunlight peeked through her windows. wait... Sunlight?

Her sleepy eyes became fully awake and she jumped out of bed to look at her alarm clock on the bed side table.

" 7AM!! "

No way! work starts at 8AM. She was going to be late! She hurried to get ready. she had thirty minutes to get dressed as it takes at least thirty minutes to get to work on time. looks like chores would have to wait.

She bolted out of her room down the wooden stairs to meet her mom at the dining table serving breakfast and she whined "Mom! Why didn't you wake me up!"

Her mother, Clarissa Quinn, dropped the plate of waffles she was holding on the table as she said "I thought you needed more sleep. you didn't get much sleep last night so I thought to let you sleep in a bit",she smiled at her daughter.

Emily sighed and returned the smile. Her mom was too much of a nice person. As soon as she flashes that signature smile of hers, you really can't stay mad at her.

"Thank you mom". She went around the table to her mom who was now doing the dishes and gave her a quick hug. "Breakfast smells delicious. Thank you"

"you're welcome dear. Now go eat, you are going to be late"

"Oh. Right... right"

She took her seat and quickly devoured her food. Their home wasn't a big one. It was an average wooden house with adequate furniture and a few pictures of the family hung on the walls by the stairs and in the parlour. A nice warm rug spread across the floor in the sitting room and a transparent glass table was places on top of it. There were three rooms upstairs as well as a balcony that offered a great view. The walls were painted Cream with a few touches of wine red here and there. It was a perfect not-too-modern home.

She finished her breakfast, grabbed her work bag and ran out of the house.

"Late, I'm so late", she kept murmuring those words as she walked hurriedly to work. Her boss was a temperamental man who wouldn't hesitate to fire someone on a whim. She sighed.

He was always on edge with her because she never did anything wrong. Luck must not be on her side today and that Mean boss of hers would finally have a reason to make her clean the toilets!, She thought.

Emily worked as a clerk in her boss' store selling clothes and clothing material. it was a fairly large one that paid enough. It was also the only available job besides her nighttime job at the time, therefore she took it up three years ago while searching for other means of employment.

She arrived at the entrance of the store ten minutes late and was prepping herself for a good scolding. She reached for the door when she read the sign 'closed'.

Truly, the store was still closed. Was she early?. She checked her phone for the Time thinking her alarm clock was faulty then it hit her. Well.. The calendar did anyway.

It was Sunday!

She doesn't have work on Sundays.

She smacked her head with her palm and let out an exasperating sigh.

She ran all this way for nothing. soon her frustration faded into a smile. On the plus side, she wouldn't have to deal with her boss. With that in mind, she gleefully left the vicinity.

Emily wasn't in the mood to go home so she decided to use her day off to take a stroll around. It had been a while since she relaxed and made some time for herself. She walked steadily, looking around. She found an ice cream cart parked in the park and purchased one for herself. The park had luscious green trees and flowers beautifying it's environs. The playground was neat and in good condition. The laughter of little children filled the air and one could hear the distant chattering of their guardians. A truly heartwarming and peaceful sight.

She took a seat on a bench with her ice cream in her right hand.

Some kids were playing soccer not too far from her. She looked up to the sky and said "what a lovely day", she said softly. Then suddenly she felt a small jolt in her mind

'what a lovely day', the words echoed in her mind and she frowned

"Or at least it was".

Soon after uttering those words, one of the boys kicked the ball in the wrong direction headed straight for her. She didn't look down, or rather, she didn't need to as she tilted her head to the left, slightly dodging the ball. She sighed sadly. "Here we go"

One of the kids ran up to her, "Sorry Miss"

"It's no trouble". The child smiled and ran to get his ball.

POP!

A little girl's balloon burst in her hands. The startled child had teary eyes, nearly bursting into tears when Emily crouched down and gave the little girl her ice cream. The child held back her tears and took the ice cream cone from Emily. The mother or the child thanked Emily as she waved good bye and left the park.

She strides across the tiled streets albeit slowly. "At least it wasn't serious this time. ", She said referring to the incident in the park.

Emily possessed a strange ability her folks called Clairvoyance. However, it differed for each individual. Hers was that She would often have dreams about certain incidents set to take place in her life but forget them when she woke up only to remember it few seconds before it happens. Apparently, according to her mother, it's a family trait supposedly meant to give a warning about impending danger to them or the people around them. Her grandmother would only see major problems that would occur within her family in form of a parable or riddle but would always remember it.

Emily's, however, shows any negative occurrence that would happen in her presence, be it to her family members or to co-workers or passers-by on the streets but she wouldn't remember until the memory is triggered by a moment few seconds before the said incident.

This always makes her feel anxious and insecure. Some time ago, It was a child that fell off a bridge. Thankfully, she caught him in time, nearly falling off the bridge herself.

Though it may help others, She wasn't a fan of playing hero. Moreover, she couldn't stand by and do nothing when she knows some one around her is in danger.

She groaned.

"Why did mine have to be so complicated", she whined.
