7 Chapter Seven

Zenaya POV

I wake up to sunlight filtering into the room through a window. I look over at the right side of the bed.

Pyrian is gone and I frown. I did not want him to be gone. Last night he seemed very cautious about everything I did. Maybe he didn't like me?

Or maybe I wasn't enough for him. I shake my head, not wanting to dwell on it. I decide to go see the horses, they are bound to have them somewhere.

I quickly throw on a simple dress and do my hair decent. I open the door to the secret exit and close the frame behind me. I take my time down the stairs considering I could not see as well as Pyrian could in the dark. I took my time and eased down the stairs.

Once I reached the bottom I quickly stepped out into the hallway, closed the door behind me and went on my way. My shoes were still by the door so I slipped those on and continued out the door. The courtyard was the same as yesterday except, I didn't bring a jacket and it was very chilly outside. I don't have a jacket so, I'll have to make do for now. I start walking and I see a few guards, I check to make sure they are human before speaking. I tap one guard quick but sure. He turns around. " Um, sorry sir could you point me to the stables?" He points behind him and nods after me. I thank him and continue in that direction.

I slowly walk to the stables, afraid of other people and demons that might be here.

I peak in the door and there is a dragon poking it's head through the other side of the barn. I look again and Pyrian is petting it. Full demon out. The red eyes, purple skin, black feathered wings and his claws.

He looks gorgeous actually. I walk in now, unafraid. I'm sure he heard my presence. "How did you know I was here." I laugh because I actually didn't.

" Well I just wanted to see the horses." He looks down slightly embarrassed but recovers from it. "But I see that my definition of horse is different from yours." He doesn't chuckle but motions for me to come closer. I step forward without hesitation, I wanted to touch his wings because they were gorgeous. I look at them and he catches me.

" What?" I stutter mentally before trying to reply. "N-nothing." He chuckles then. He reaches down for my hand and I give it to him, he puts it on the snout of the dragon and it purrs. The dragon purrs like a cat of all things!

"I have to go to a meeting today. To discuss certain things. You can do whatever you want I'll be back in an hour or so." I frown, I didn't want him to go. He catches my frown and just furrows his eyebrows. "Why do you frown?" I almost laugh, he thinks that I am only here for a debt.

I have grown strangely attached to the king. "Nothing really, be careful." He nods and thinks about something but must have decided against it. He smiles, bearing his fangs at me and I smile back, knowing he meant no harm. Except my body reacts anyways and chills run down my arms as he slowly stops smiling. " You should be scared of me you know." I take a breathe and before that's done he has me pinned on the ground and my neck exposed.

"You couldn't fend me off even if you tried, and I could seriously hurt you." I just lay there, embarrassed that all I could think about was his body on mine. I could feel him distancing himself from me, physically, and mentally.

I didn't know what to do. He gets up and helps me up. He then takes his cloak off and hands it to me.

" Here, keep this." I take the cloak and throw it over myself. He leans down and kisses me on the cheek. " I'll see you in a bit." I can tell that my face is absolutely red as blood. "Okay, see you later your Majesty." He looks at me and it seems as if he is angry.

" Don't call me that please, I want you to call me Pyrian." I nod, yet even more embarrassed by this. He turns back around and walks away. I am left there with the dragon who just nudges into me for more scratches. Which I continue to do so. But I just sit there, a little sad, and a little confused.

I start thinking about everything I've gone through and I decide right there that I would make something of myself. If I was free then I could start a movement? I shake my head. It's a little to late for that. I hear whispering coming from the other side of the wall and I take a deep breath and hold it.

Listening in. "Here soon the next coronation will be near, I'm with Janyk on this one. The prince wants the crown and we need to help him." Another man speaks after him. " Well, doesn't that mean that we would kill the king?" The other man chuckles. " Yes indeed, he doesn't do anything. He merely pines over a human."

I frown. I was causing him trouble. The man speaks again. " Of course we could kill them both." My heart stops. " The girl and the king."

I run right out of the barn and make sure they don't hear me.   I have to tell Pyrian. But for now, I run back to the room.
