You can see me?

Today was not a good day for Alan.

Today...he was about to lose someone precious to him.

As he sat outside a private hospital room in a complete daze, holding back the tears he desperately wanted to release.

He looked inside, to see the family and friends of his wife huddling around her while she laid motionless in bed. Every single one of them was in tears as they heard the doctor talk about his wife's condition.

Alan was also a doctor and actually works for the hospital that his wife is staying at and already knew the horrible news his colleague was telling them.

He couldn't bring himself to tell them. How could he? He would have broken down in tears, just like the rest of them, before he could say one word.

He also knew they probably didn't even want to see him. His wife had a large family and many friends, yet not a single one of them liked Alan.

They would have shouted and blamed him for not being able to save her and say something like "You're a doctor! Yet you can't even save your wife! Useless!"

It was probably better that his colleague offered to tell them, partly because he knew Alan wasn't in the right mindset.

'I'm so sorry Alice.' He thought while looking at the white and dull ceiling.

His plan was to wait for an hour to allow the people inside to calm down from the news and then go see her.

He didn't want an argument to ensue from coming in too early.

*Sigh*

Alan sighed again.

*sigh*

And again.

*sigh*

And again.

He just couldn't stop. He kept sighing, accelerating his breathing with each sigh until finally, he broke down into tears.

However, he tried to be as quiet as possible because he was still technically in working hours, though no staff would force him to attend to anything at the moment.

They all knew Alan and had a wonderful impression of him as a whole. He was always a hard worker and showed a lot of compassion to his patients, treating every single one seriously even if their problems were minor.

He was the type of doctor that many nurses and fellow doctors wanted to become as they viewed him highly. He was given a nickname by the staff and patients alike, they knew him as the 'miracle doctor'.

They gave him such a glamorous name through his years of working with patients, where he always had a solution no matter what the problem was.

Of course, there were many solutions to problems like heart attacks or head injuries, etc., but what made Alan so special was that throughout his years of working, he has never made the wrong diagnosis and was always spot on with the patients' issues. Even more surprising was that none of his critically ill patients had died during his care.

Heck, even surgeons and neurosurgeons would have Alan in close proximity when they were doing intense surgery as the surgery would have a 100% success rate.

It was truly shocking and thanks to Alan, their hospital became very reputable and popular throughout the world, allowing it to expand to its greatness today. They gave Alan another nickname of 'the lucky doctor' as wherever he is, a patient would miraculously be fine in the end with no long-term side effects.

The only time a surgery failed even during Alan's presence was when he had to leave midway due to an urgent matter or something happened that needed his attention over the surgery.

However, despite his incredible miracle skills, he was never promoted in his time working and had always remained a simple doctor, spurring quite a bit of controversy by the staff, as they couldn't understand why.

But, despite that, he could still do more complicated tasks or watch over VIP guests due to his incredible skills and the lack of promotion never swayed Alan, earning more respect from the other staff and patients.

But that same miracle doctor is currently breaking down in tears for not being able to help his wife.

It couldn't be helped. A lot of unlucky events led up to this moment to prevent him from being there to see his wife. He was just so busy for the last few months and had to fly overseas with a colleague for a very important person who specifically requested the hospital's aid.

Normally, patients came to the hospital or an ambulance would pick them up, but since the person was overseas and specifically requested the doctors to come there, the hospital simply couldn't refuse because of that person's status.

Since Alan was a miracle worker and the patient was very important, the CEO took no chances and ordered Alan to go abroad with the actual person who would help the patient.

When he heard about his wife's declining health, he wanted to leave and quickly get to her but he wasn't allowed and was forced to stay until they finish their job, so he was stuck for three months. After finishing, their flight was delayed because of a storm and he had to wait an extra three days before he could finally get back.

However, by the time he actually returned, it was too late to do anything. His miracle skills couldn't do anything at this point. The other doctors already gave her a variety of medicine and even had multiple surgeries performed on her yet all failed. It was simply too late to do anything when Alan arrived.

'Fuck! The one time she needed me and I did nothing!' Alan continued to blame himself and tried to calm down. He stood up, wanting to go outside.

Before he could take his first steps, he saw someone walking towards him. Alan could tell it was a man, who was quite tall, about 6 to 6'2 he reckoned.

The man wore black jeans, a black shirt and had a black leather jacket around it. His hands were in his jacket's pockets and he walked calmly and carefree with his head down and black cap, making it difficult to see his face.

Alan found it weird for the man to walk along this corridor towards him since there were no other rooms but the one his wife is in. So he thought the man might see him since he couldn't recognize the man as one of his wife's friends or family.

Alan waited to see what the man would do, thinking maybe he was lost or something and was going to ask him for some directions.

*Step*

*Step*

But, contrary to his guess, the man was about to walk past Alan and into his wife's room, which instinctively he stretched his hand out, halting the man.

"Sorry, only friends and family are allowed. This is a private room for a patient."

The man looked at Alan with wide eyes.

"You can see me?"

Yea...I don't know why I started. I just felt like I got a good idea.
