A Traitor In The Sect

"W-What do you mean?" Elder Ario sputtered when he saw Maeve's narrowed eyes.

Maeve completely ignored the man and turned towards other elders.

"I think we all can agree that Miss Maya was 100% a better target than hubby, am I right?"

The elders glanced at each other they nodded to Maeve.

"Yes, I do feel like they had more chances of success if they attacked Miss Maya."

Sect Leader Kalm agreed as well.

"Then why would he attack us?" Maeve questioned.

"Was he an Idiot? Maybe.

But he did manage to bring more than 60 people inside our clan without anyone knowing, calling him an idiot would be false."

"Hmm, it is indeed a mystery… The only reason I could think of is that…" Sect Leader Kalm commented.

"They had someone helping them from the inside…

A traitor if you may call." Maeve completed his sentence as she glanced at Elder Ario, clearly showing her suspicion.

The discovery received astonished gasped as all elders turned towards Elder Ario. They all knew that Elder Ario didn't have a very good relationship with Ace so it wouldn't be impossible for him to team up with the enemy.

"Huh!? What the hell are you talking about!? Are you saying that I betrayed the Sect!?

I!? Elder Ario!? A man who gave his whole life to sect betrayed!?" Elder Ario questioned in rage. He truly looked angry that Maeve suspected him. But of course…

"Yes. That is what I concluded."

Maeve couldn't care less about his outrage and replied.

"Y-You! How dare you!? Where is the proof!? How can you accuse me without any proof!? Do you think just because you are Elder Ace's wife, you can say whatever you want!?"

"Of course, since I dare to accuse you, it is naturally not baseless.

As you all know, hubby didn't kill Payn precisely because he had the same doubt as us. He tortured some useful information out of him later but since what's left of Payn's body isn't very pleasing, I decided not to bring him here. However, since Elder Ario is so bent on wanting proof, I have no other option left but to call Payn here"

Many elders flinched at the words 'what's left of Payn's body isn't very pleasing' they controlled their emotions and prepared themselves but before Maeve could say any more words, Elder Ario shouted.

"Haa? You aren't really believing whatever Payn is saying, are you?

Was that your proof? If it was, I am sorry to say but Mrs. Vorste, you aren't as smart as you show yourself to be.

That Payn knows that he will die no matter what he says, so of course he would try to pull someone to hell with him! And please, don't ask me why he targeted me and me alone, who in the whole Espade city doesn't know that mine and elder Ace's relation isn't the best?

Other elders frowned and then nodded at those words. No matter what, those words sounded logical, they can't believe the words of the enemy and punish one of their own.

Seeing the elders nodding in his favor, Elder Ario inwardly sighed in relief.

'Hmph! You want to target me? You are still way too young for that, I have been in politics for more years than you were born. You are too inexperienced.'

Elder Ario raised his head to see Maeve's frowning expression but what he saw was that the previous emotionless face was turned into a grin.

Seeing that, a frown appeared on his face.

"Indeed, how can I trust the words of an enemy and blame one of our own? What I asked Payn wasn't about the mastermind, but the way they infiltrated the Sect without us knowing.

You don't believe he can lie his way out of that, do you?"

As soon as those words left Maeve's mouth, Elder Ario sighed in relief again and smiled.

"Oh? Then what did he tell you? Care to elaborate?"

"Nothing much, he said that he just managed to contact someone in our sect who helped them in changing the guards shift at night, allowing them to enter without anyone knowing and merge into the Sect to attack when required.

Though he did tell me the name of the person who they had contact with, I didn't believe it at all and decided to investigate from the bottom"

The more Maeve spoke, the more Elder Ario relaxed.

"Oh ho, I would like to hear what Mrs. Vorste investigated in a single night and how does it connect to me."

"Then let me call the guard who started it all and created a gap between the guard shift yesterday night"

Maeve clapped her hands and two disciples brought a man whose hands were chained.

"Alright, You, tell everyone what you did and why you did it"

As soon as those words left Maeve's mouth, the guard fell on his knees and kowtowed.

"Forgive me Sect leader!

Last night, it was time to end my shift, but when the next guards arrived, I told them that the schedule was changed and I still have 30 minutes left, since it was midnight, the guards were also indolent so they quickly agreed and left.
