32 Much Needed Help

"Someone from Child Protective Services will be here shortly to take you to a temporary foster home," counselor Bennett said.

Then I had an idea and shook my head. "No. I'm eighteen and legally of age to stay in my house for now."

Counselor Bennett nodded. "How will you pay the rent?"

"Well, I have a part time job that I work on the weekends," I replied. "I'm not sure how much the expenses are, but I could always find a roommate."

Counselor Bennett tilted her head to the side. "Are you sure you want to do that? The memories—"

"I'll be fine," I cut her off.

"Either that, or you could find another place to rent. I hate to say this, but since you're eighteen, you're not eligible for foster care." Counselor Bennett let out a deep breath. "The police will comb over the place and take out the Meth lab and paraphernalia. Also, your mother may be released on bond." She gave me a sympathetic look. "Do you really want to live there with her?"
