Chapter 69

"So how long have you been together?" asked Isabelle.

For some, her frankness would probably put off people but not Alex. She knew her since high school and this was just her normal way of talking.

"Not long..." replied Alex.

"Rekindled romance?"

"Not really..."

"We're not even dating in high school, Isabelle," Robbie told her.

"I know... but I was hoping that somehow both of you had hit it off right after high school."

Alex chuckled. "We didn't really hit it off until recently, Isabelle. Sasha came in first."

"Oh! I see..." Isabelle was surprised to know this but a secret smile curved in her lips. She was happy that somehow Robbie made his move to Alex even after several years, and it took a kid to prove how much he loved her.

Christopher soon came in and join them.

"So, what did I miss?" he asked. "Sorry I have to make sure the orders are in place so I went to the kitchen."

"Nothing much, hon. Alex and Robbie were only retelling their love story," Isabelle teased.

"I see... so when did you guys actually dated?" asked Christopher.

Robbie and Alex looked at each other and laughed. Isabelle laughed at the same time, too.

"What did I say?"

"Honey, I just asked the same question awhile ago only in a different way."

"Oh! Well, I didn't know that. A.J. here had never told me about any guy in her past except for one."

Robbie's smile faded as his eyebrows creased. The last thing he ever wanted to hear was about Miguel.

"Chris, stop!" Alex glared at him.

"What? He needed to know," Christopher told her.

"What do I need to know?" Robbie demanded as he pursed his lips. He was expecting Christopher would say it was Miguel but he didn't expect what he said after.

"She said there was this guy whom she never dated and yet ended up getting her pregnant. Now, I realized it was you," Christopher revealed.

The whole table was silent for awhile as Robbie studied Alex. He didn't expect this. Although Alex had told him the reason why she left, she never told him why she never dated any guys after Miguel.

Now he knew... and it was because of what happened between them.

"Now I understand why she never entertained any guy after she had Sasha. She was probably still in love with you. Just too coward to admit it."

A satisfied smile curved into Robbie's lips. Christopher just confirmed what was on his mind.

"Stop, Chris! You're embarassing me," Alex said, chuckling.

Christopher smiled. "What? It's true, isn't it? But anyway, congratulations! You two deserved each other."

"Thank you," Robbie replied as his gaze never left Alex who was blushing and smiling widely.

"You know, Alex, Robbie here actually had a huge crush on you since high school," added Isabelle. "I think you know that by now."

Robbie took Alex's hand and kissed it. She smiled as she gazed at him. Her love for him could never be wavered again. Indeed, it was all worth the wait.

Having that assurance that Alex had actually thought about him and what happened between them had an impact to her life, made his heart rest.

"So when is the wedding?" Isabelle asked.

"Four weeks from now," Alex replied. "We'll send you the invitations by next week."

"Great! I can't wait. Anyways, our batch in high school will be having a reunion next month so don't miss it. You're both invited."

Alex smiled. There was a part of her that was hesitant to go. She knew there would be one person she would hate to see and that was Miguel.

What he was doing to Elaine was quite upsetting , and somehow she knew a part of her would not stop herself from saying something about it. Yet, she had to as she promised Elaine.

Robbie gripped her hand and she looked at him.

"Do you want to come?" Robbie asked.

She just nodded and faked a smile. In her mind she could imagine the meeting already, and she knew it would never be pleasant.

The buzzing of a phone vibrating startled Robbie and he took his phone out of his back pocket. He looked at the name. It was Tonette.

"Excuse me. I just need to take this call," Robbie told the group as he stood up and walked outside.

"Yes, Tonette," he answered.

"I found her."

"Who?"

"The snitch."

"It's a woman?"

"Yes, but you will be surprised."

"Why?"

"She does not even work in the office."

"What do you mean?"

"She's a model."

Robbie creased her eyebrows.

"Who among them?"

"Kathleen Smith."

Robbie froze. It was one of the youngest and newest face models in his company. Her mother worked as an accountant for years and out of her daughter's wish to study and earn her way to college, Mrs. Smith asked him if he could make her daughter a model.

He pulled some strings, contacted some of his great business associates and soon the girl was able to get a spot as the youngest and freshest faces in the modelling industry.

He had taken pity of this girl as she was only eighteen at that time, and now on her twenties.

Why would she do such a thing? Did he somehow made her feel unimportant? But how?

"You need to come here tomorrow, Robbie," said Tonette, whose voice sounded concerned.

"Gather all the heads and officers. Let them know we would have an emergency meeting by tomorrow. Closed door. Call Kathleen and tell her to come meet me in my office. Be discrete, Tonette."

"I will, Sir. I will be sending all the emails tonight. By the way... did Alex know?"

Robbie sighed. He knew he needed to inform her somehow but part of him hesitated and wanted to deal it on his own.

"Don't worry, I'll let her know. Thank you, Tonette."

"No problem, Sir," and they hung up.

"Robbie, is everything okay?" asked Alex as she went out to check on Robbie.

He just nodded.

"Who did you talk to?"

"Tonette."

"Is there a problem at the office?"

"Yes. I need to fly there tomorrow," as he shoved his hand through his hair. He placed his phone back in his back pocket, and creased his eyebrows.

Alex placed a hand on his shoulder as his eyes settled on her.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

"I'm sorry... it's just company problems."

"Well, I'm part of the company now. Maybe I could help."

Robbie sighed. He never wanted Alex to worry since they have to focus on the upcoming wedding and yet, she was right. Alex would not only be his assistant, but also his soon-to -be wife for whom he shouldn't keep things from.

"We found the snitch in my company."

"There was a snitch in your company?"

"Yes. It's a woman.... a model."

"A model? What did she do?"

"She leaked the latest project for fall."

"Oh no! But why?"

"That's what I have to know tomorrow."

"Can I come with you tomorrow?"

"But Alex-"

"I am part of your company now, Robbie. We're a team and whatever the problem is, we should be solving it together."

Robbie sighed and pulled her in an embrace.

"Thank you," he whispered.

Alex hugged him tighter.

"I'll always be here, Robbie. I love you."

"I love you, too," and he let go of her for a moment as he gave her a quick peck on the lips. "Let's go back inside before they start to worry, okay."

Alex nodded.

"Okay," she said, and they held hand in hand back inside the restaurant.
