Tang An couldn't believe what she was hearing.
.
'This woman must really be insane;' She thought to herself.
.
She walked into her mum's study, to find her by the fire place, her back to her.
.
The fire was crackling and gave her mum a faint glow.
.
She cleared her throat to make her mum acknowledge her presence.
.
But she received nothing from her, she waited for a little while. She cleared her throat again, making it louder this time but still received no reaction from her mom.
.
She was getting frustrated now and her legs were starting to hurt.
.
"Mom I'm here;" she said.
.
With her back still facing Tang An her mum said in a calm voice:
.
"I know."
.
She got up slowly from her seat and turned around to face Tang An, circling round her in the process.
.
"My dear Tang An," she began raising Tang An's chin.
.
"Why do you make me do this to you? You're the one causing problems for yourself.
.
I tell you the easiest things to do, but you fail to follow simple instructions. Now you have to bear the consequences of your actions."
.
Tang An became flustered, she honestly didn't know what she had done this time. She was beginning to think that her mother had a screw loose in her brain.
.
Then her mother said; "All I want is obedience, is that so much to ask for?
.
But you always choose to disobey me" Then she forcefully threw her face away from her.
.
She clasped her hands behind her, turned her back to Tang An, and walked towards the window.
.
In a voice so cold it was scary, she said; "Go down to the kitchen and prepare dinner for everyone excluding yourself, you are not to have dinner tonight.
.
So you should go to bed hungry, thinking of what you've done."
.
Tang An stood confused, lots of emotions were racing through her mind, but she let none of it show.
.
Her expression was emotionless as she said in a still voice,
.
"What did I do? How exactly did I disobey you?"
.
Her mom didn't react to this question, but she said:
.
"I wouldn't want to leave a bad impression on my guests, so next time when I tell you to not let the guests meet you, you do as I say.
.
Now leave my study."
.
Tang An stood transfixed for a moment, balling her fist, so hard that her knuckles turned white.
.
"What are you still doing here?" Her mother said with a hint of anger in her voice.
.
"Leave."
.
Tang An left and walked straight into the elevator.
.
She wasn't actually hungry, but the words her mother said pissed her off. If only she knew how she sounded when she said such stupid things.
.
How could someone who seemed so elegant and courteous be so shallow and malicious.
.
She didn't even know why she craved her mother's love, her mother didn't deserve to love her. Heck her mother didn't deserve to be loved.
.
What she really deserved was to be locked up in jail for Child Abuse and infliction of harm to children.
.
She stormed into the kitchen, anger raging through her heart.
.
Didn't her mother know that she hadn't eaten all day?
.
Of course she knew, how wouldn't she?
.
But why would she care?
.
After all, she was so heartless.
.
She got the ingredients from the store and forcefully threw them on the counter, she grabbed a chopping board and chopped the vegetable with so much rage.
.
Who would do that to their child?
.
What mother would treat her daughter in such way? Her only daughter for that matter.
.
She chopped the vegetables aggressively, injuring herself in the process.
.
Lu Xiang was thirsty and decided to go to the kitchen to get some water, but he didn't know where the kitchen was, so he wandered around for a while until he found it.
.
As he drew nearer to the kitchen he heard the sound of someone chopping aggressively.
.
He saw Tang An by the counter, it looked like she was chopping something but in a rather hostile way.
.
He stood, watching her for a while, before he made up his mind to approach her.
.
"Have mercy, what have those poor veggies done to you?" He asked in a playful tone, hoping to cheer her up a bit.
.
She snubbed him, pretending no one was talking to her, and added more effort, chopping the vegetables mercilessly.
.
Lu Xiang's spirit was dampened a bit by her nonchalant attitude , but he persisted saying:
"You know, if you keep at it, you might end up injuring yourself."
.
Tang An snapped, turned to face him, and said so rudely:
.
"Excuse me, I don't know who you are or who you think you are, but I frankly don't care. So why don't you just run along and leave me alone?"
.
As she said this, she cut herself.
.
