9 Chapter 9: The Engagement Party

Samantha rushed out of the bathroom in a frenzied blur, stumbling over clothes on the floor as she tried to reach the ringing tone of her phone before it ended. The cause of such a panic-induced state was none other than the fact that she was waiting for a potential job opportunity to come through.

“Hello?” she answered, somehow breathless despite the short distance from her bathroom to her nightstand.

“Samantha Williams?” the voice on the other end of the line asked.

Samantha nodded her head in reply, only to berate herself afterward, realizing that the other person could not see her.

“Yes, this is she.”

“Samantha, I am calling about the job you applied for a week ago. I am pleased to inform you that your application has been accepted. Are you available to work this evening? It might seem a bit short notice, but we were informed not too long ago ourselves,” the tired voice on the other line told her.
