7 Mr. CEO Is Charming

"What is a young lady like you doing here, standing all on her own? Is the party that dull?"

Evelyn turned her head to face a cordial old man. She failed to recognize him. His words left her thinking on how to appropriately respond.

A silly laugh left her mouth as she patted the back of her head and said, "It's not that it is dull. I don't know how to get along with people."

Back then, Evelyn was a little foolish. She always had an honest mouth, saying the first thing that came in her mind for the first time. Nonetheless, despite what she went through, she had those pair of bright eyes.

"What about you, Mister? Do you not get along with people as well?"

Amusement crossed through the man's eyes.

"Do you not recognize me?"

Evelyn frowned. Creases appeared between both of her eyebrows, and she shook her head. At that, the man only laughed.

"What an adorable child."

This only made Evelyn grin.

Following that, the two of them conversed. Despite the large generation gap between the two parties, they weren't exhausted of topics to talk on, and it was rare that someone treated her in such a friendly manner. Therefore, Evelyn felt greedy and treated this moment as precious.

However, as much as Evelyn was reluctant to part, soon enough, the man left, and only following that did she learn it was the old man's birthday. The old man really took her to be someone silly.

During the birthday party, she also spotted Landon. Although the teenager probably didn't notice her, she had her eyes on his back throughout half of the time, watching as he interacted with men much older than him.

Landon was at the same age as her, but along with him came an aura that made it difficult for one to accept he was a teenager if not for his face. Evelyn found it particularly cool and charming.

For the first time, Evelyn was happy after such an event. As she got on to the car and the vehicle started driving, she realized that the route was not to her apartment. She questioningly stared at the driver, and it seemed that her thoughts got conveyed.

"Master wants you to stay over at the mansion for the weekend," he explained.

This made Evelyn frown. Her presence wouldn't be asked for without a reason, and that too for week. It was frustrating that they never thought of communicating with her prior to these matters.

Then again, they already hated it enough that they had to endure her presence and let her come over.

Evelyn leaned her head against the cool glass window. Her expression didn't hide the displeasure she felt in that moment.

The moment she dreaded arrived when the car stopped in front of the mansion. The moments she had to herself in that small apartment were her happiest. Although lonely, there was no one to harass her.

Now, being snatched of that for the weekend put Evelyn in a negative mood. However, she was absolutely helpless.

A soft sigh escaped from her lips before she pushed open the door and stepped out. Although measures were taken to ensure the temperature inside the mansion was warm, Evelyn felt nothing but chilliness, more than in her apartment where there was little to no shield against the coldness.

How funny!

There was no one to greet her. Her insignificant presence didn't deserve it. However, she had been here enough to know her way around and where she should head next.

The room she was given didn't lack anything. Materialistically, it seemed extremely comfortable, way more than that small bedroom in her apartment that was often infested with insects and smelled terribly on rainy days.

The bed were was warm and had a cozy blanket, contrary to the hard one in her apartment that came along with a thin blanket. Soft floral scent floated in the air.

But none of this brought her happiness. It made her feel distress. Because Evelyn knew this wasn't hers. She felt like a stranger, a guest who visited the mansion. She wasn't treated terribly by the master of the mansion, her nominal father. It was the alienation and the clear line drawn, showing her status as the outsider, that hurt her the most.

Evelyn was never welcomed.

No one ever did.

She blinked away the tears that formed against her will and forced out a smile on her face. It's fine. She is still young. One day, she will make a place for herself in this cold world.

"Look who is here again."

Hearing that mocking tone made Evelyn turn her head, and her eyes fell on Annalise standing at her door. This made her instinctively take a step back while a frown formed on her face. There was nothing good about Annalise coming to see her.

"Shamelessly showing up here again. If I was in your place, I would have long killed myself in embarrassment. Dad is really kind for allowing a thief to stay here."

"I never stole anything."

Of course, there was no use in her saying that when Annalise had been the reason behind her being kicked out of the mansion. This did make many scorn at her, but at least she finally got away from this nightmare inducing place.

Annalise framed her for stealing, and even though they knew Annalise was lying, they didn't care. Evelyn knew that they only needed an excuse to have her out of the place.

Annalise scoffed.

"You are equally lowly as that birth mother of yours. Is it inherited? After all, where else will the filthy blood go? Both of you can only eye things that doesn't belong to you. Why can't you simply learn your place and kill yourself? There is no need for trash like you!"

Those harsh words got Evelyn to shudder, and lowering her gaze, she clenched her hand into a tight fist.

It's fine. Annalise will get bored of this and leave.

She repeated in her head.

However, it seemed that her silence bothered Annalise. This got the girl to react by flinging off the cup in her hand. The cup crashed against the floor— it's shards spreading around the area— and the hot chocolate inside splashed all over Evelyn.

The drink was hot, and this got Evelyn to let out a cry out of pain as she stepped backwards. Tears welled up at the corner of her eyes. However, she knew that no matter how much she screamed in pain, no one would care.

Annalise merely scoffed and walked away, leading Evelyn to get down on her knees and hug them. She broke out into tears.

"I hate this. Why do I have to be alive? Why wasn't I gone with my mother?"

Her body quivered.
