"Alright, it's time for the final test to showcase your talent, Chris," the teacher called out. Chris confidently stepped forward as the teacher requested. Today marked the day when they would determine if Chris had what it takes to become a beast tamer. Unknown to anybody, Chris was quite special he was a reincarnator. Fifteen years ago, Chris had died on Earth, only to be reborn in a parallel universe with a vastly different planet. While the planet's structure resembled Earth's, it was significantly larger. This new world was inhabited by peculiar creatures that resembled evolving pocket monsters. Humans on this planet could awaken their aptitude to contract and tame these beasts. However, the success rate for awakening this talent was only 1 in 10. Out of their class of 50 students, six had already awakened their beast-taming talent, with the highest level being gold. Chris was the only one left who hadn't tested to awaken his beast-taming talent yet. As Chris walked to the front, their teacher, Mr. Chavez, handed him a crystal clear ball. This ball would light up to indicate if Chris possessed the talent and at what level. After receiving the crystal clear ball, within seconds, the ball in Chris's hand lit up, confirming that he has the talent to be a beast tamer. Mr. Chavez, who was overseeing the awakening of his students' talents, couldn't help but be amazed. Out of the entire class, adding Chris a total of seven students had managed to awaken their beast-taming talent, which was quite fortunate. However, Mr. Chavez's amazement quickly turned to disappointment as he observed the result displayed by the crystal ball. It only lit up with a white color, indicating a talent level of normal and several ten rendering that his soul power was only ten. This meant that Chris could only contract a normal-level beast, with a low soul requirement of 10. The entire class witnessed this outcome, causing their initial amazement to fade away. "He managed to awaken his beast-taming talent, but it's only at a normal level," one student commented. "Yeah, he won't be any different from the rest of us, regulars. He'll only be slightly better and can contract a house pet as a beast," another student added, sounding relieved. The other students who had already awakened their talents shook their heads in disappointment. "How unfortunate. Chris awakened a talent, but it's like a curse that doesn't make a difference whether it exists or not," they murmured. Chris, holding the crystal ball, was left speechless. "Only a talent level of normal and 10 soul power? And just a normal-level beast? What happened to my cheat?" Chris complained silently in his mind. The "cheat" Chris referred to was his ability to view a beast's status as long as the beast wasn't too powerful for him to spy on. He could access the beast's status at will. "It's alright, Chris. You can still attend the beast tamer class since you have the talent to tame beasts," Mr. Chavez encouraged, though his tone lacked sincerity in comforting him. Chris simply handed back the crystal ball and calmly returned to their seat, showing no signs of sadness or disappointment. "Tsk, can't do anything about it. I'm not the main character. I may have a special ability, but my talent is just trash," Chris thought. After school, Chris arrived home and was greeted by a black furry cat at the front door. "Oh, Ming, were you waiting for me?" he asked, even though the cat couldn't understand him. He looked at the cat and suddenly, a row of information appeared in his mind. Beast: Night Cat Level: 1 Star-Normal Potential: Normal Power level: 5 Trait: Loyal Skills: None Seeing this new set of information shocked him. It seemed that his awakening as a beast tamer had unlocked additional perks, such as potential, power level, and skills. However, he understood that it was reasonable to expect such developments with his talent.
"Alright, it's time for the last one to test his talent, Chris," the teacher called out.
After school, Chris arrived home and was greeted by a black furry cat at the front door.
"Oh, Ming, were you waiting for me?" he asked, even though the cat couldn't understand him.
He looked at the cat and suddenly, a row of information appeared in his mind.
Beast: Night Cat
Level: 1 Star-Normal
Potential: Normal
Power level: 5
Trait: Loyal
Skills: None
Seeing this new set of information shocked him. It seemed that his awakening as a beast tamer had unlocked additional perks, such as potential, power level, and skills. However, he understood that it was reasonable to expect such developments with his talent.
After taking in the information, he picked up Ming from the ground and opened the door to their house. Ming was a pet he had rescued when it was abandoned by its parents. He had found the little cat on his way home and had been raising it like a regular house cat ever since.
As he entered the house, he noticed a woman with eyes similar to his sitting on the sofa, watching television. This was his mother, Flora.
"I'm home, Mom," Chris greeted her.
Flora turned her head towards Chris upon hearing his greeting. "Oh, how was school, son?"
"Well, you know I awakened my beast talent, but it's only at a normal level, and my soul power is 10," Chris replied.
Flora was shocked and saddened by her son's statement. She couldn't help but feel sorry for him, seeing him struggle and face difficulties.
Chris noticed the strange expression on his mother's face, but he understood what she was thinking.
"Don't worry, Mom. I'm not as sad as you think. With my soul power, I'll be able to form a contract with Ming," he reassured her, showing her the cat he was holding.
"Meow," Ming chimed in as if to confirm Chris's words.
Flora remained unconvinced and walked over to Chris, hugging him tightly and rubbing his head. "There, there, my son. I know it's tough, but not being too talented can also mean that you don't have to venture outside and put yourself in danger to become stronger. You can find a decent job in the city and earn a living," she comforted him.
Chris let go of Ming and gently pushed his mom away. "Mom, stop it! I'm not a baby anymore," he protested.
Flora, who was pushed back by her son, began to pretend to cry. "Oh no, my son doesn't like me anymore. Huhuhu."
Chris, witnessing his mother's antics, could only shake his head and remain speechless. Sometimes, he couldn't tell who was the younger or older one between them, given the way she acted. But to be honest, he didn't mind it. Before being reincarnated, he had been an orphan and had been alone for years after leaving the orphanage. Having his mother act this way made him feel the attachment of having parents.
"Alright, Mom, I won't play along anymore. I'll just go to my room and form a contract with Ming," Chris declared, picking up Ming and heading towards his room.
Flora, done with her act, smiled at her son. "Okay, I'll cook your favorite meal to celebrate your talent awakening," she happily announced, making her way to the kitchen.
Chris couldn't help but smile at his mother as he closed the door to his room.
Inside Chris's room, he gently placed Ming, his cat, on the bed.
"Meow," Ming meowed, unaware of what was about to happen.
After settling Ming on the bed, Chris opened the cabinet in his room and retrieved a blade.
"Fortunately, I only need a small wound," he muttered to himself.
The beast contract required a drop of blood from the tip of the finger, but this blood was known as essence blood. It had a golden color and was specifically used for contracts. Awakened beast tamers could sense this blood and utilize it for summoning their beasts.
Chris created a cut on his thumb, and a stream of golden liquid blood flowed out. As he observed it, he immediately pressed his thumb to Ming's forehead. Suddenly, a mental connection formed between him and Ming, and the process went smoothly.
"Fortunately, I have taken care of Ming since the beginning, so there is no resistance to the contract," Chris sighed in relief.
Unexpectedly, a sudden change occurred in his mind after contracting Ming.
"Ding! You have successfully contracted your first beast. Modify the beast and select the desired power level."
The message was short, but it resembled a game interface. It asked Chris to choose the power level he wanted for Ming, offering options ranging from normal to elite, up to mythical.
Without hesitation, Chris chose the mythical power level. Since Ming was only a normal potential beast with a power level of 5, there was no need to think twice. He wanted the best for his companion.
A white light suddenly enveloped Ming, who sat on the bed, unaware of what was happening. After a minute, the light faded, revealing new information in Chris's mind.
Beast: Night Cat
Level: 1 Star - Normal
Potential: Unknown
Power Level: 5/100
Trait: Loyal
Skills: None
*As the beast reaches the power level standard, its level will automatically increase.
The new set of information shocked Chris, and another message appeared.
"Do you want to enter the dungeon? (Ready) (Duration: 24 hours / Cooldown: 24 hours)"
"Shit, what is this dungeon thing?" Chris curiously muttered. But suddenly, a voice echoed in his head.
"Meow (I'm hungry)," a short message, but he knew it came from Ming. The black cat on the bed jumped off and rubbed its body against Chris's feet.
"Meow meow (hungry hungry)," it protested urgently.
"Alright, alright, I'll give you food," Chris responded through their mental connection.
The cat stopped rubbing against him and its ears perked up. It walked towards the door, signaling for Chris to hurry. Ming's thoughts were simple, and it didn't suspect anything even after understanding Chris through their mental connection.
It had only been an hour since they started the contract, and Chris opened the door to his room. He saw Flora, who had just finished cooking, and his father Danny standing with her.
