My memories are vague. When I try to remember, my heart aches strangely. History says first love is incomplete; it is true, I also fell in love. We bonded with each other by chance. It started during the summer vacation when I had gone to my grandfather's house.
I have a joint family. After my grandfather, my father is the eldest of the family. It was a little village called Durgapur, and my grandfather was one of the richest ones.
I felt anxious because I didn't know anything about my grandfather and all my relatives. When I arrived, I was surrounded by many unknown faces. I felt uncomfortable, scared, and anxious. After a week spent with them, I got used to it. I had many cousins, most of them were the same age as me. I played with them a lot. Everything was going well until that day.
My sister MAYA took me with her to her favorite place. Suddenly, the sky got dark, and heavy rain began to fall. We took shelter under a huge banyan tree; that moment is the root of all evil.
Hiss! Rustle! Rustle!
'Hey, VIKRAM...Vikram!'
'What is Maya?'
'Are you afraid of ghosts?'
'No. I don't.'
'I heard from my friend that ghosts come out at night and during rain'—'I'm scared.'
'Maya!...—'
Boom!
Aha!
Suddenly, thunder struck nearby. Maya got scared and she hugged me.
'Hey! Maya, what are you doing?'
Her hug made me feel uncomfortable, so I pushed her but her face came close to me. She tied her hair, so I properly looked at her face-to-face. I said inside me that she looked gorgeous—I noticed her cheeks were smooth as butter, her trembling china-rose lips, and innocent gaze— My sister is the most beautiful in the world. If I were to find someone like her.
Boom! Smooch—kiss!
'mm...ha!— suddenly I pushed her. The atmosphere became weird for me; back then, we were innocent and faint, so we didn't even know what we were doing. But I clearly understand that I did wrong, but it was an accident. I looked at her, feeling offended.
'VIKRAM... what was that feeling?'
'I-I don't know either!'
'could you do this again...I felt a little calm.'
I hesitated but at last, I gave in. It was just to make her calm; she was too scared to stand when I touched her, she was trembling. We did a lot. In the heavy rain, our elder brother came to rescue us and he misunderstood us.
In the evening after the rain stopped, our family quarreled. My grandfather burst ironmonger at my father.
*Slap!*
'How disgusting. What kind of education do you give him?'
I heard all silently. My father was defending me—suddenly a secret was revealed;
'Vikram is not our actual son!– his parents are Joy-Rupa, unfortunately they passed away leaving him behind.'
I was shocked at first, then little by little, I realized that I have no memories of them— I had lost my memory, so I neither recall my real parents nor have any memory about my current family. After that, the storm had stopped. The house got pin-drop silence. I couldn't sleep, nor could my parents.
In the morning, the story had another twist; our grandfather made a decision and engaged us.
