6 The new arrivals

"As you can see. This place isn't exactly the tidy sort. I can fix it up with magic here and there, but when I got engrossed in my research it became like this..." Mimir bashfully said as he welcomed her in.

"...This."

The entire room was in a mess. All sorts of research papers are stacked messily, vials of potions anywhere, spilled chemicals on the floor, there is even a corpse of a certain monster sprawled out as a specimen for research.

Lilia saw it all.

"Ha ha ha... How embarrassing." Mimir scratched his finger on his cheek while blushing out of embarrassment.

After half a minute of silence passed, Lilia finally spoke with an expressionless face.

"Please leave it to me."

"...Yeah, I guess I'll be leaving it to you."

And then Lilia started to start off with her work.

+++++

To be honest working with such a person made me baffled.

He was a person with great fame and power on the grasp of his hand.

Even if he wasn't the same as the Asuran Imperial Royal Family that I once used to serve, he's the kind of person that could rival their influence.

I've always heard of stories about his adventures.

From what I heard, one of those legends contained on how he ended up becoming a part of the Royal Family of a now destroyed Kingdom.

According to rumors, it was the result of the wrath of Master Mimir. Though not much of the details were known.

And it was against a servant's etiquette to pry into their master's past.

Being employed under Master Mimir has reached a month and just the other day he's given me my salary.

Such a huge sum of money, even the Head Maid of the Royal Palace couldn't earn this much. I decided to send half of it to my family and kept the other half as my savings. My accommodations and needs were taken care of that even if I don't receive any salaries, I could live off with just that.

Honestly I couldn't ask more than anything now.

The work consists of mainly organizing through the aftermath of Master's days buried in Research. I occasionally do the laundry, cooking, and watering the garden.

Although taking care of the garden itself were quite a hassle and a bit complicated. Master gave me a small manual of instructions of each magical valuable plants needs.

During the time when Master shut off himself in his laboratory, Master ordered me not to disturb him so I was stuck doing housework.

I gave Master's meals to his trusted partner Ulf– a summoned guardian beast according to master Mimir, for him to deliver.

This guardian beast is wise and has great knowledge. It also helps me around when there's something I don't understand here.

"Woof."

"Yes, thank you very much." I bowed.

Serving a legendary figure might be a little overwhelming at the start, but it wasn't that bad.

+++++

One fine day Mimir is having tea made by Lilia. After a year of research, he decided to take a break.

While he's relaxing, he could see Ulf playing with the kids around the village.

Because Ulf looked really unique and eye-catching. He's really popular with children and young women.

Lilia already got used to the work here, and she's really capable and efficient. It's to be expected as an Imperial maid working in the Imperial Palace.

He started to hum a strange song he heard somewhere or the other from the bards he encountered in his journey.

"Oh that's right, I heard that a new Knight got assigned here with his wife pregnant." Mimir said.

Although he was living like a shut-in, he gathered some information about the village. It was Ulf who told him most of it since he regularly strolls around the village.

While he was having his tea, Lilia came. Although she's trying to be expressionless, her aura failed to cover it up.

"Master, a person came wanting to talk with you." Lilia says.

"Let him in."

Lilia bowed and carried out the order. After a while she led a man inside.

He looks handsome that could be popular to any woman. And he gave off a really youthful and charismatic aura.

A complete opposite to Mimir's calm and gentle aura.

"Welcome, come down and have some tea first." Mimir welcomed the handsome young man.

"Yes sir, thank you very much." he says respectfully.

Lilia poured him some of the tea and he took a sip on it. There was silence for a while, he never had tea as good as these before!

"So? To what do I owe the village knight to come to my humble home?"

"About that..."

And so the knight began to tell his story. His name is Paul Greyrat. He was recently assigned to this village as a knight. He came along with his newly pregnant wife that was going to be born soon.

"... and so I hope you will give us your assistance." Paul said.

In short, he wanted Mimir, a resident local mage, who knows healing magic to be present when his wife is giving birth. Paul also asked Lilia's help as someone who had experience in midwifery when the time comes.

"I see. Then when the time comes, just call me." Mimir said. He also added that if he was in seclusion doing research at his library, he could have Lilia or Ulf call for him.

"Thank you very much. I owe you one."

"No, no, we are fellow people of the same village. It's normal to help each other."

After a few pleasantries, they gave their goodbyes and Paul said he still had something to do and left.

"So there's newcomers. It's like an epilogue of a novel."
