1 A chance encounter

Mimir visited through the city's Mage Guild, and he was greeted by the guild's staff. When he showed them his S-ranked membership card, they immediately arranged anything they wanted to accommodate him but Mimir refused.

"I only wanted some materials and tools for drawing magic circles." he said.

"Understood. Would you also like to borrow a room in the Guild for it?" A staff asked.

"That wouldn't be necessary. I wouldn't be doing research, I just merely wanted to resupply."

The Guild arranged the materials he needed immediately, with brawny people lining them up meticulously on the floor.

"Would this be all you needed, sage-sama?"

"Yeah, thanks a lot." With a wave of Mimir's hand, the stock of materials disappeared from its place as it magically entered through a different dimension for storage.

After shopping the materials with a huge discount, Mimir then left the Mage Guild.

"Now that I've gone through the things I need, it would be great if word didn't pass around on my arrival." he says.

There is no end of greedy people who would love to make him join their ranks, be it an organization, a magic university, or an entire kingdom.

"It can't be denied that I was quite foolish when I was still young." he said.

In his youth with his talents and vast knowledge, he got showered with attention and got famous through the lands. It got into his head until he neglected his research and he became stagnant. It took him long before he realized that he was just being used. And then the time came when he defected, it ended up in a bloodbath.

Time passed and Mimir avoided getting into the madness of political power struggles. He pursued his passion for magic and research. And then before he knew it, he was in a different league than any conventional mages in the world.

When you ask a random person about 'heroes', usually they would be associated with men wielding swords, axes, and hammers, but not mages. It is when Mimir was subjugated Red Dragons that rampaged in a city wielding the power of a million men, that mages were also just as valiant as heroes.

Swordsmen and Mages with a great passion were prejudiced with each other. Swordsmen looked down on mages, they'd thought of them as arrogant weaklings who felt that knowing how to mutter incantations made them strong. Mages looked down on swordsmen as, they'd thought of them as barbarians who practiced on nothing more than a tool with which to kill.

Mimir returned from his room in the Inn, and packed his belongings into his dimensional storage space. And just like that, he left the Capital City after finishing his business.

+++++

Mimir continues travelling with his own foot. His boots and robes enchanted with auto-cleaning prevents dirt and mud from clinging into him. His wonderful staff made with extremely rare materials and intricately carved with complex magic circles within, looked really simple.

With the vast expanse and peaceful roads, even ordinary people could travel in this land safe from monsters. Compared to the cruel and harsh land from the other Continents, the Central Continent is peaceful. More so with the bountiful land of Asura Kingdom.

The only danger you would encounter when you travel in these lands would be bandits.

"...!"

With his acute sense of hearing and augmented senses, Mimir felt a disturbance from a distance.

Curiously interested, Mimir pulled out a thick book from his dimensional storage space. The cover was designed with magical symbols made from a special ink, and it's leather skin from a high ranking monster. If it were to be sold in an auction, no doubt he would make a fortune. It was a magic Grimoire.

Mimir doesn't need to use the incantation to activate the summoning spell, but he's fond of theatrics why he had the leisure of using them.

"Great Spirits I call upon thee. Emerge from the gates of Old and fulfill thy Ancient pact. I asked thee to manifest the blessings of Dark before me."

Light emitted from the book as the magical symbols between the pages shine. The Mana Mimir channeled to the Grimoire formed into a strange creature covered in darkness.

It was a beginner Spirit. Though powered by the Grimoire and with Mimir's magical energy, it was far beyond an average beginner Spirit.

Mimir ordered the Spirit to scout on the disturbance he felt earlier. The spirit obeyed his command as it disappeared from its position.

Using Magic to share the sense of sight with the Spirit, it arrived unto the scene.

A carriage ornamented with expensive materials like Gold and Silver bearing the crest of the Asuran Royal family. It's being surrounded by bandits in an ambush of the carriage.

Few Royal Knights and Guards engaged with the bandits, but unexpectedly the Bandits were really skilled and organized. It makes the situation troublesome for them to protect the important person inside.

"An ambush to a member of the Royal family? A political assassination if I'd guess. At this rate it would be dangerous for the people inside." Mimir murmured while closing his eyes looking from the Dark spirit's perspective.

Entering the carriage phasing through the material object, he saw a young girl not older than 3 wearing an expensive dress. With her was a maid holding a sword ready to protect the little girl from harm.

"I don't really want to get involved, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth if I leave them to die."

With a tap from the ground using his staff, his body began to weigh as light as feather defying the laws of Gravity. He managed to use magic for flight to arrive in the place from the attack.

Mere seconds later he arrived and saw the scene personally.

"Return."

With a single word, the Dark Spirit entered the Grimoire and it disappeared. Mimir put the Grimoire back into his storage space.

"Let's save the day shall we?"
