Burn!

Swish!

A zombie was horizontally cut in half, Saeko ignored the bloody sight and attacked the other two zombies around her.

Stabbing Murasama into the head of the zombie beside her she dragged the sword out and like a hot knife cutting through butter, she decapitated the remaining zombie.

A few drops of blood splashed on her clothes.

The zombie headed rolled on the ground and arrived at Akito's feet. He was leisurely strolling beside Saeko who was enjoying herself... though she was trying to hide her enjoyment.

Akito and Saeko had decided to take out twenty zombies per person by turns and these three zombies completed her turn.

Akito stepped forward, "My turn I guess."

"Mmm," Humming in agreement Saeko stepped aside and started following Akito's lead.

"How are we going to find out the cause of this apocalypse?" Saeko asked while whipping her sword to the side causing the blood on it to splash on the wall.

"I wonder as well..." He muttered before shaking his head slightly, "Don't know honestly. For now, we have two options, the First being Saya's parents. Didn't she say her father was a politician or something? Maybe he could have some intel?"

"Plausible enough," She agreed, but the chances of a random politician from Japan knowing the cause was extremely low.

Unless... Unless the cause of the virus is situated from Japan.

This thought caused her to frown.

Not knowing Saeko's doubts Akito continued, "The other way is Shizuka-san's friend. Wasn't she from the military? She could be another way for us to find it."

Saeko once again shook her head inwardly, this was once again a choice with low success. Though she didn't know what to do either.

They crossed the street and turned to the right, Instantly a zombie appeared in front of their face but it was immediately smashed away by Akito.

As the zombie stuck to the wall, Akito frowned and spoke once again, "Though there's another way for us to find the cause." His voice was laced with seriousness.

Saeko immediately noticed the change in tone and focused on his upcoming words.

"The DCG asked us for the cause of the Apocalypse... But What is this 'cause' though? Did it want us to find the culprits for this zombie hoard or the reason why humans were turning into zombies?"

Saeko's eyes widened in understanding, she had glossed over the wording of the quest.

"Since it isn't actually stated what to do, I prefer to capture a few zombies, prepare a lab, possibly find some scientists or highly intelligent people to experiment over the changes in their bodies."

Bang!

As he was focused on his thoughts and speech Akito didn't bother controlling his strength and the zombie he smacked had its head flying across the sky!

Saeko's eyes followed the flying head as Akito continued speaking. "The chances of us being able to act on this plan is very very very low. The zombies and labs aren't the hard part but the finding of people who can actually experiment and find out the cause is. Of course, let's ignore the fact that whether the lab would be usable or not for now."

"If we can gather such people..."

Saeko's heart thumped, this was technically the answer to the completion of their quest... but just as Akito said it was too hard to find such people.

But Akito's next words poured a bucket of cold water on her head.

"What's more troublesome is if we can trust the 'scientists' and people we bring. After all, the human heart is unfathomable." Akito clicked his tongue but then chuckled, "Whatever maybe I'm being too pessimistic. What are they going to even do with just the reason behind the zombies? Though its an entirely different case if they somehow find a cure to all of this tragedy."

Saeko's face turned into one of displeasure, was Akito doing this on purpose?

But she wasn't stupid and understood his words.

There wasn't much need to elaborate on it, if one thought enough then they could imagine various scenarios and reasons as to why the 'scientists' could grow ulterior motives should they find the cure for the disaster spread across the world.

Akito had different thoughts, the image of a girl popped up into his mind, she was a beautiful girl with pink hair tied into twin tails. She was an arrogant individual but ultimately a kind-hearted tsundere who was having trouble adapting to the sudden change in environment.

As part of the main cast of the anime and someone who bore the title of 'Genius', he wondered how far he could push her potential. Could a 'Genius' like her after enough studying and zombie lab rats to experiment on, find the answer to his questions?

Most importantly, She was someone he could put his trust in...

A soft smile appeared on his face, even though she was stuck up and arrogant she still had room to grow. She just needed someone to give her a reality check and if he had to be harsh on her so be it.

...

"This is going to take too long..." Akito muttered while looking at his kill count, ignoring the bleeding corpse beside his feet.

It was currently sitting at 287.

It had been an hour and a half since they had left.

"What's your kill count?" He curiously asked Saeko who just chopped a zombie into four equal parts.

Thud!

The body fell onto the ground and Saeko looked back with a smile, There were traces of blood on her face which made it creepy.

"179."

Their twenty per person rule shattered just after 30 minutes, it was extremely boring for both of them to wait for one to finish.

Saeko also felt that it was taking a bit too much time, suddenly an idea popped up in her head "We could use fire then, Want to gather them near the petrol pump?"

Akito's eyes lit up and he gave her a thumbs up in his mind, "Nice! As expected of the smart Saeko! Let's do that then."

'Smart Saeko?' Her lips twitched at his words but didn't say anything. The way he said, "Smart Saeko" just sounded weird...

Akito had basically almost toured the entire city in the last seven days so he knew exactly where the petrol pump was.

...

It took them fifteen minutes to reach the petrol pump and they saw many zombies causing their eyes to lit up.

"So? Who takes the kills?" Saeko asked him, after all, they couldn't just go around burning every petrol pump.

Akito lifted his reluctant gaze from the petrol pump and answered with a sad heart, "Well, you should take it. It was your idea."

Saeko was going to agree but his sad yet cute expression caused her heart to soften, They had all the time in the world to kill a thousand zombies.

*Cough*

"Let's toss."

Akito's eyes shone and he immediately got a coin in his hand from seemingly nowhere, "Bet? Best of three then?"

"Mhmm,"

"You choose," Saying that he put the coin on his finger and thumb.

Flick!

The coin spun in the air and Saeko softly said, "Heads!"

The coin landed on Akito's hand and it showed Tails causing Akito's smile to widen.

Luck was on his side!

or not...

Saeko's lips twitched, "How do you have such bad luck?"

The consecutive flips were in Saeko's favor.

Akito immediately retorted, "I don't know! It's you who has good luck." He grumbled to himself. He was reluctant to admit that his luck was bad.

"Well you spread the oil around, I'll gather some materials to make a Molotov." He said before breaking into the nearby house.

Saeko didn't have the time to choose so she approached the petrol pump and went around softly on her toes she didn't want to attract the zombies' attention yet.

After spreading a lot of oil around the gas station she waited for Akito.

She didn't have to wait long but it wasn't short either. It took him ten minutes to return.

"I feel like I've been saying this a lot but what took you so long?"

He didn't have to find anything complicated after all, just a glass bottle, a rag, and a lighter.

She looked at the extra item in his hand and raised her brow.

"What's that?"

"Roofing tar. It'll help keep the fire for long, Alcohol while okay didn't entice me enough and gasoline would just burn too fast on its own. Extra information, it also sticks."

Saeko looked at him with a weird gaze, "Why do you know this?"

Akito bashfully rubbed the back of his head, "Well my friend wanted to burn the school as a joke and I joined in by searching about Molotov's."

"Quite the friend you have," Saeko nodded at his explanation and said, "Let's start."

It was annoying to have to whisper constantly so Akito hurriedly filled the glass bottle and prepared the Molotov.

After doing that he retreated to the side.

Seeing that he was away Saeko pulled the gun that was strapped to her thigh and aimed it at the sky.

Bang! Bang!

Two loud gunshots rang in the surroundings as dozens of heads turned towards the same direction.

Having done the most important task she quietly evaded the zombies and stood by Akito's side.

"Do the honors."

After waiting for the zombies to gather he handed her the Molotov and Saeko lit it up before throwing it at the crowd.

Crack!!!

The glass shattered and flames rose consuming everything in the area as the smell of burning rotten flesh spread.

Saeko's eyes reflected the fire and she opened the DCG. She immediately saw the change in numbers.
