42 Their Counterattack

We were on our way back to Brecksville riding cars to get back. With around 25 tech-priests there was no way I was carrying them back.

Me, Mary, and Harriet were all in the same car with Ian running beside us and Katy in the air as an additional lookout.

I smiled the raid had gone spectacularly, it showed the power of information over a battlefield. Because we found them we got to ambush them.

They set up incredibly poor security, just some guards around the cave entrance. If they had gotten some cameras and motion detectors they might have been able to catch us way ahead of time.

I was interrupted as my Observation Haki pick something up, 15 meters away there was a portal opening. I notice that a woman was standing right behind it aiming right at us.

I had no time to warn anybody I grabbed Harriet and Mary putting my body between them and the powerful electrokinetic.

A millisecond later a torrent of lightning flowed directly at us. I used every trick I had in my book, Tekkai, Seimei Kikan, and Armament Haki to mitigate the blow.

It was still brutal as the blow struck me directly in the back and I felt my entire back char and smolder. The pain was excruciating.

I saw with my Observation Haki that Ian hadn't been so lucky the lightning had hit his head instantly killing him and Katy seemed to have her legs char as black as my back.

I immediate drunk the healing potion I had in my inventory. The pain faded. I looked and Katy was falling out of the air.

I broke the car down open and with Mary and Katy held with one arm I dashed to catch the falling Katy. I caught her but then I sensed another portal open up behind me.

I saw the electrokinetic look at me with sadistic glee as the next lightning bolt was charged. Reacting quickly I threw all 3 women into the air.

A moment later lightning stuck out exactly where their heads were and missed. I didn't miss me though as even with my motion of throwing them my head hadn't moved enough to cause a miss.

I had moved enough so that it wasn't a killing blow. So instead of dying the lightning carved through the left side of my face removing my left eye and ear and badly burning the rest.

I quickly grab the three girls from the air, and fell to Earth, screaming in pain. I was under them and broke their landing. I quickly gulped down another healing potion and handed another to Katy.

See quickly gulped hers down and she started to float again but stayed close to me. I nodded at her and then grabbed the laser rifle from my inventory.

This time they seemed to recognize that I could sense anything close to me and the next portal opened 100 meters away to my left.

I didn't see them, as my left eye was gone, but with my one remaining eye I saw Mary's eyes widen and she pointed in that direction.

I quickly looked and fired a laser in that direction, but the loss of my left eye and the resulting loss of my depth perception caused me to miss.

The electrokinetic was not so nice as a lance of lightning came towards us. I used my left hand to catch the lightning before it could hit us.

It burned and shocked it badly and that arm was now out of commission. I quickly drank my last healing potion stabilizing my wound.

Katy was floating nearby trying to keep an eye on things and keeping her body separated so she couldn't be taken out in 1 shot.

Mary had closed her eyes and was focusing on telling me where the next portal was. Harriet was panicking curled up in a ball. It was fair she hadn't really been trained for these types of situations.

This time Mary pointed behind me and I grabbed a steel knife I kept in my inventory and threw it in that direction.

Once again it missed but the metal knife acted as a lightning rod redirecting the blow to miss us. Seeing that I immediately grabbed metal bits and bobs from the wreckage of the car beside me.

Behind me, I noticed that the tech-priests were doing nothing. I guess they wanted to see who was stronger than switch to the winning side.

Knowing that my aim was comprised I handed the laser rifle to Mary, I said, "Use this as soon as you sense a portal opening."

She nodded and I kicked the ground hard sending tons of dust into the air obscuring our position. I hope that now our enemies weren't able to draw a bead on us.

I seemed to be right as when Mary pointed to my left and I moved in front to tank a the blast I went wide veering to our right missing us completely.

Mary on the other hand didn't miss as after she fired the laser rifle twice I heard a scream ring out from that direction.

I asked, "Did you get her?"

Mary shook her head, "I took out the electrokinetic's legs and right arm she should bleed out soon but I don't know about the sorcerer. She might not have been in the blast radius."

We waited, the dust around us blocking the view of the area before I felt a portal open up right behind me, next to Mary.

A woman rushed out of it extraordinarily fast, nearly as fast as I was, and summoned whips of magic, attacking Mary. I caught one of them with my right arm it burning in my grasp.

But the second one scored Mary across the face hitting both her eyes and blinding her. This infuriated me and using Seimei Kikan I morphed to my speed form.

I dashed at her using my Soru and Bo-bup to their fullest, so fast I couldn't even see where I was going. But I didn't need to as I crashed into the sorcerer and put my right hand straight through her stomach.

She was smiling and said, "I got you bitch. That is what you get for killing Jessica."

She then died. I immediately rushed to Mary who was thrashing on the ground in immense pain. I quickly yelled out, "You one of your potions. Every member was given one."

She stopped thrashing for a moment and a potion materialized in her grasp. She drank it and I saw her relax and the pain faded.

We were all still wounded though. This potion only stabilized the wound not heal it. So I yelled to the tech priest, "Stay here. If I move even a single inch while I'm gone I will track you down and kill all of you."

They obligingly stayed stock still. I grabbed the wounded Mary and the curled-up Harriet. I looked at Katy and said, "We're heading back to Brecksville as soon as possible can you make the journey?"

She said shakily, "I think I can. Only my legs were attacked, while it's painful I don't need them to use my wind magic."

I nodded and then rushed back to base as quickly as possible. Even with my speed, it took 2 hours to reach back and the potion started to wear off.

Each step sent lances of pain through my back, left arm, and head. I was also starting to bleed out profusely. We managed to reach back to base.

I collapsed in the main hall and I laid there on the ground in pain and members of the Brecksville Militia around me, I hoped that I would live through another one of my mistakes.
