35 Building Up the Brecksville Militia

Now that I had permission to build my organization it was going to be much easier. I looked at Mary who was still sullen and said, "You did good."

She smiled and said, "I don't feel like it. I just robbed more people of their senses."

"Yes," I said, "But they were bad criminals. Who knows what they could've done if they escaped."

She nodded and I brought her back home. She seemed to have a hard conversation with her mother but I said out of it.

Once the noise subsided I looked in and met her eyes. I mouth at her, "Is everything alright?"

She warily nodded her head and I walked back to the apartment to rest for the night. It had been an exciting first day back on Earth.

For the next few days, I decided I should spend it on increasing my organization. From what I hear on the news gangs filled with superpowered people have been popping up.

A recent one in the nearby city of Torres had risen up with a leader looking like a Space Marine from Warhammer 40k. He has conquered all of the gangs in the city.

He seems to have someone in his organization that can make futuristic weapons on a massive scale as all the gangsters he has sent out are armed with guns from the 40k universe.

They have lasguns, flamers, and bolters. Thankfully they have nothing bigger than that. No arterially, heavy weaponry or war machines.

Still, I was worried about that as I didn't know if the police department there could deal with it. And I was not optimistic about the army or national guard stepping in.

They have their handful with the larger cities and the S-rank threats there. While Torres was bad it was more a case of the number of threats, not the quality.

So I have been gathering members into my organization, after a bit more pressure on Laurance, I managed to get the official approval of the police department.

And after using my Uncle's name and some money from my bank account I managed to get the mayor to agree as well.

Honestly, he was a disappointment. He only had 1 C-rank skill, City Management, and failed his mission locking him out of the system.

But with that powerful backing, I went to my school and talked about the Brecksville Militia, which would train them to use their powers more effectively.

I did actually do what I said and did teach many of the more physically inclined members of our organization how to fight properly. Doing sparring matches with them regularly.

Mary was also incredibly useful as I would use my money to pay people to allow her to steal their senses for a while. This allowed her plentiful source of senses to bestow.

Imagine trying to learn a martial than suddenly being able to feel every muscle in your body perfectly and for it to respond exactly as you want I definitely help you get better.

This massively drove up recruitment as this combined with my sparring matches made physical fighters grow the fastest in our organization.

For the more magically or supernaturally gifted I couldn't do much except explain a bit more about the power system where their magic comes from.

Whenever they would ask how I know something I gave the same excuse as I gave to Mary as for why I knew so much about it. While they didn't grow as quickly they still steadily improved.

But the ones that I was most looking for were the manufacturers. Those that can make armor, weapons, and consumables for us.

For this, I had nothing to rely on other than my cash to rope them in. It worked as many of them needed specialized tools before they could start any production.

So after around 2 weeks, my organization was around 50 members strong with some of them being particularly impressive.

One was Dustin, the guy with the Harry Potter Magic. He apparently learned how to brew potions and heal during his mission and that made him an invaluable asset.

He was pretty loyal. I mean I told him about different spells he could use and made a potioneering lab just for him.

Luckily he bought the ingredients in the system store if not he would be able to make any potions.

Another was an old crotchety man called Wilbur. He learned both how to create Mechashifting weapons from RWBY but also Fallout wasteland technology.

He has outfitted many of our members with mechashifting laser pistols that could turn into knives. We gave some to the police to get on their good side.

He was good but felt no attachment to the organization at all only being here for the money I gave him and the facilities I bought.

Lastly was a powerhouse that my group desperately needed. He had gotten hit got the Asgardian Physique from Marvel and can use Feruchemy from Mistborn to further enhance his power.

Feruchemy is basically the ability to store his characteristics in metal. So he would be weak one day so the next day he can become stronger. This works for his speed, vitality, weight, etc.

He has been storing his stats like crazy only keeping his stats at 10 when I think that they are around 100 naturally so I really wouldn't want to face him if he wants all out.

He was also not too attached only here because we taught people how to use their abilities and fight better than any other place he could go to.

Either way, I was pretty happy with how my organization has been growing so far, and to further inspire loyalty I looked into my bag of fruits from One Piece.

There I saw 5 Devil Fruits already. Even though devil fruits in this world are relatively rare only appearing as A or even S rank rewards with the amount of chaos in the world I got quite a good smattering.

First was the Chop-Chop Fruit wielded by Buggy the Clown that allowed the user to split their body into different parts and allow them to float in the air making them immune to slashing attacks.

Next were 3 zoan-type fruits, the Snake-Snake Fruit, Model: Anaconda, the Pig-Pig Fruit, Model: Wild Boar, and the Hippo-Hippo Fruit.

They were all zoan types from normal animals so I wasn't really tempted to eat them. If they were ancient or mythical-type zoan fruit I would've eaten it in a heartbeat.

The last one I was really tempted with, was the Kilo-Kilo Fruit which allowed the user to manipulate their own weight.

It was incredibly versatile. I could lower my weight to increase my speed at the cost of being more vulnerable or increase my weight to improve the power of my blow but reduce my speed.

If I was trained enough I could switch between the two instantly. Imagine I moving at maximum speed at 1 kilogram then just before I hit changing my weight to 10,000 kilograms.

Even if I wasn't moving that fast the weight would allow me to crush stone and shatter steel. So I was strongly tempted by this fruit as it also easily fit into my fighting style.

But seeing how many devil fruits I had after only 2 weeks I was hoping that an even better fruit would appear. A logia fruit would basically make me invincible right now.

So I waited. I kept the Kilo-Kilo Fruit to myself just as backup. And announced to the organization that if they performed a great merit for the organization they would get 1 devil fruit.

When I mentioned that Mary got her ability to steal and grant senses from a devil fruit they became immensely interested and recruitment became even smoother.

Now that we were big enough though there was one thing that we had to deal with, the rising gang violence in the town. The cops were doing Ok but there were only 15 of them.

They asked for my assistance and damn was I ready. I needed to battle test my recruits if they are to become useful troopers.

Plus the increasing gang violence would affect me soon as some of buildings near where I lived had been demolished in their fights.

I was confident in beating them. There were only around 3 gangs with only around 15 ~ 20 members each. And the police had killed or captured around 20 already.

While they had lost 2 men in the fight it was due to an ambush that Mary could easily negate. So I was going to give my group a small challenge.

This was just a small taste of what we could possibly be facing in the future. After all, that massive gang in Torres is pretty close and I wouldn't want to be caught unprepared.
