29 Ant War

"I'm not eager to find out what those bastards are fighting about, but I need to explore more of the cave systems. I also need to find those acid roots to detoxify my body" Jacob thought of his objectives for the moves toward the cave. His nose was covered by a makeshift mask.

The shrubs were still smoking like crazy. Jacob didn't need it anymore, he outed the smoke and stood at the entrance until he gained some vision. With his bag slung across his back, he covered his nose trying not to breathe in too much smoke, then entered.

"Why are the ants making so much noise?" Jacob looked into the distance but he could not see anything at all. He grabbed an essence stone and followed closely along the walls of the cave and continued toward the walls.

The smoke began to dissipate and he came to a large space. Further ahead he saw decapitated ants in the ground, with bodies strawn out on the ground. Legs, appendixes, head and mandibles. Everything was a part an ant was made up of.

"What the fuck" Jacob was shocked. It looked like a horror scene.

What happened?

What did this do?

These questions flooded through Jacobs mind, he continued to tread forward and through the cave passing twitching ant corpses along the way. The noises became more audible the further he walked. He soon came upon a shadow cast on a wall, It showed ants fighting each other.

He turned the corner and he saw them. It was a war over the corpse of the Queen's Corpse, they were fighting each other like madmen not caring for their own life.

They were standing on opposite sides with 3-metre tall Super creature class Ants leading the fight on both sides. It was a gruesome fight, the whole colony was divided.

"Are they fighting over the Queen's Corpse? What is this?" Jacob watched on in confusion of their action. The Ants mourn their queen's death for a minute then they start fighting over her corpse.

Jacob could not think of anything that could lead to this but he quickly hid behind some rocks and kept to himself. Lest he incites the ire of one of the leading super creatures. He could only defeat ants his size, and he was rather short at 5'7 so he was not able to defeat a lot of them there.

"Are they fighting to see who will take over the colony?" This was the only thing that made sense to Jacob. Then he thought again "Or is something so important with the Queen's corpse that they are willing to fight over… but what could it be?"

Jacob decided his soul would stay where he was. He watched the Ants brutalize each other. Each and fought and killed other ants their size. While Super creature class ants fought others at super creature class. It showed that they had intelligence. If they were to leave a Super creature class ant alone they would cripple their forces.

The ants continued to fight, the fight was carried on top of the queen's corpse. The whole battle turned into almost the king of the hill, trying to knock the other ant off the corpse as they tried to take it away. Jacob thought nothing of this and observed.

After Jacob observed for several minutes, he saw something. A shiny object was lifted from the Queen. Everyone turned their eyes to the bright source of light and they started momentarily. A golden egg was lifted out of the Queen's Corpse.

The Ant that found it was jubilant as he held it to the sky as made happy noises. His face immediately turned grim when he saw the horde of angry ants charging toward him. The ants swarmed and killed the ant quickly, the ant was around his size, so it made him feel more nervous about the situation.

The object fell and slipped into the crowd. Whoever had the golden egg would instantly be killed.

"What the f-....What's that?" Jacob was flabbergasted. He didn't know why they would be willing to kill their own kind over a simple egg. Jacob thought it made more sense to nurture the egg, but they were fighting for it, rather than letting it hatch.

Jacob instantly the egg was not as simple as it was made out to be. His curiosity got the better of him and made the decision to try and find the perfect time to steal the golden egg. " Since the Super creature class Ants are occupied with their fights, I should be able to steal the egg from the crowd", Jacob was fined tuned his plan some more and it was all about waiting for the right timing.

*Krieeeeek!*

The Death cities of Ants weighed on his mind heavily and made him cowardly. "Maybe, I should focus on my mission before doing something dumb" Jacob crept away on all fours, away from the war scene.

Whatever the Ant wanted, he wasn't going to be greedy and end his life so soon after getting a second chance. If it was meant to be then it would happen. He wanted to focus on finishing the mission left to him by his system.

"It's satisfying seeing all the completed missions, but surprising that something like this exists. I wonder If I'm the only person" Jacob slowly tiptoed away from the danger zone and made his way deeper into the cave systems.

The caves went in many different directions. They were all well-lit normally Jacob would want to go where it had more light meaning there were more essence crystals, but he wanted to find genling roots to cleanse his body.
