2 Dreams and Fate

Zhao Ting Ting was an intern nurse in the emergency department at St. Mike's hospital in Shanghai. At the age of 24 years old, she already have a caring boyfriend and a warm family. Her dream was to have a family of her own with her current boyfriend. They were planning to get married next year and she couldn't wait.

At the hospital where she worked, everyday was hectic. Patients were arriving one after another with lots of serious injuries and illnesses. It was very stressful for her but she really enjoyed working as a nurse after working there for three months.

Moments after she was about to leave the hospital when another emergency came in. Since she was on call, she couldn't head back home. She rushed to get changed into her blue uniform and ran to the emergency department. The patient was a young female of age 16, she was impregnated by her boyfriend who dumped her after knowing she was 12 weeks pregnant. Unfortunately, the baby did not survive the trauma after the girl fell down the stairs. She was losing too much blood and they had to do emergency operation to take the fetus out. Zhao Ting Ting felt pain inside her heart, she saw many trauma patients before but this pained her the most.

In the emergency room, she was just an observer on the sideline. After observing operations after operations, she learned a lot from them. She watched carefully and observed every movement the surgeon was making, and writing down what needs to be done. The nurses also had to memorize what type of medical tools they had to use in case the surgeon asked for it. It was a lot to handle but this was her dream job.

After the surgery was finished, the young girl was taken to the ICU for observation. Ting Ting and another young nurse were responsible for observing the girl's condition in the ICU and writing down numbers of any changes that might happen. She double checked the IV line and oxygen level, after it was all done...she was relieved. Her relief was short-lifted after a doctor came in and called her name, "Nurse Zhao! Come over here." Ting Ting went over to the doctor quickly and he explained the situation to her, "That young girl's parents came to the hospital and they're not doing too well. Can you go there and help them?" Ting Ting was unsure how to respond but she said she will try her best.

Ting TIng took off her mask and PPE (personal protective equipment) and headed outside, The girl's name was Anna, her parents just arrived to China few days ago after returning from vacation abroad. They were in shock not knowing their daughter had a baby and a boyfriend. Anna's mother was crying after knowing how much pain her daughter went through and she didn't even know. Ting Ting offered them tissues and bottle of water to calm them down.

"Your daughter is trying her best to live. Unfortunately, we couldn't save her baby. Saving the mother was our top priority. Anna must have a reason why she didn't tell you guys. When she's ready to tell you, please be patient. This whole situation must've taken a toll on her as well. Also, we weren't able to contact her boyfriend. We assume that he ran away. Anna's mother, you need to stay strong for your daughter. Do you want to visit her? She can't respond right away but she can hear you." Ting Ting comforted Anna's mother and they agreed to go in.

After they went in, Anna's mother broke down and sobbed while her father tried his hardest to hold back his tears.

"I'll give you guys 10 minutes, visiting ends very soon. I'll wait outside in case you need me." Ting Ting closed the curtain to give them privacy.

She can finally stretch out her arms when she heads out of the ICU. She sat on the bench while drinking her bottled water. She thought a lot about her future and how it would be like if she ever have her own child. Being a mother must be so special. Some cannot have a child while some already have one, it really depends, she thought.

After ten minutes, Anna's parents came out of the ICU, Anna's mother thanked Ting Ting for her kindness and encouragement. Ting Ting was happy to help, she's a nurse after all. But her ultimate dream is to have her own child one day.

She drove home right afterward, it was a long day for her. Ting Ting's boyfriend already came back home and hugged her.

"Look at you, you smell like alcohol. But, I love that smell on you." Ting Ting's boyfriend's name was Lu Ting and he's a lawyer by profession. They loved each other since university. Since it was late at night, they had a simple meal. When Ting Ting finished showering after dinner, Lu Ting was already in bed waiting for her.

"Come closer." Lu Ting asked and Ting Ting happily went closer to him, "Hm? What's wrong?" Ting Ting snuggled closer to him.

"Let's try to have a child." Lu Ting whispered in her ears and she was so happy.

"Anytime." Ting Ting pecked on his cheek and shyly moved away. Lu Ting came in closer and kissed her on her lustrous lips. He wrapped her around her waist and caressed her body. Ting Ting breathing became faster and everything felt so good. They were embracing each other and making out until Ting Ting fell asleep on Lu Ting's arm. Zhao Ting Ting really hoped that she could have his child one day because this was her dream when she dated him. But, sometimes fate have a different plan for them. It could be good or bad at the same but most importantly is how will you handle if fate brings you down to the very bottom. This will be exactly Zhao Ting Ting's fate.
