17 Acquaintance

"If you are so kind, you won't survive in this cruel world, Mr. Lee. You know nothing about me. Kind hearted and good man like you, should run away when you see a monster like me." Hazel opined firmly.

"Why do you think of yourself as a monster? I didn't see any traits of a monster in you!" Aiden, too, was firm in his mind. Even if his eyes cannot see straight through her, he believed in what his heart sees.

Hazel sigh. He's too helpless! She placed her elbows on her thighs. Then she covered her face with her hands. "Why can't you just forget about me?" She muttered.

"If you want to reject me, you should give me a proper reason." Aiden demanded. He refused to back down easily.

What will she say? The problem is not about him. It's about her! How will she explain to this stubborn man?

After she remained silent for a while, "I did not believe in love" was all she could say. It was the only thing that came to her mind!

"Then I'll make you believe it" was Aiden's response. "Give me time." He added.

Aiden, too, didn't have any idea at what he was saying. He just said what was on his mind! He never fell in love before! He was a true novice in this matter!

'You're such a fool, Aiden! You easily talk about love like you have experienced before!' He thought to himself.

Hazel finds herself in a desperate situation. She didn't know what to do. Throughout her life, she never encountered an over stubborn man like him!

She pursed her lips and still covered her face using her hands. She needs to make him give up on her!

They are completely opposite to each other. He's a kind hearted and friendly world renown author whom everyone praised! But she's a ruthless businesswoman feared by many!

Besides she's a woman of many secrets!

The world treats her as the cherished daughter of Haze Group. But she's just a lowly orphan! She can't explain all these things to him. She wants to brush him away! She don't deserve a great guy like him.

"Mr. Lee, you're a great guy. Many women would die to date you." She whispered.

"But it's you that I want. I want you and only you!" He replied firmly.

"I'm not a good woman as you think I am." She told him again.

"I don't care." He simply responded. "Even if my eyes failed to see, I believed that my heart will never be wrong." He said in a gentle voice.

Hazel was at a loss of words. Her mind went blank and she keeps on staring at the floor. A worry expression can be seen in her beautiful face.

Aiden didn't failed to notice her expression. Did he pressure her too much? He cursed his lack of experience! She's so precious to him, more precious than any jewels or riches in this world! Whatever the reason is, he didn't want to see her sad.

He had seen her beautiful smile before and he concluded that smiling happily suits her the best! Not this sad expression which he currently witness!

"What am I supposed to do?" Hazel asked in a low husky voice.

"I'm sorry if I put pressure on you, Ms. Hazel. But as I told you before, I didn't have any intention to force you nor give up on you." Aiden opined.

"We can be a simple acquaintance. We can take our time to know each other. There's no need to rush things." He calmly said. All his voice and expression were so gentle.

Somehow his gentleness calm down the pressure Hazel's felt. But he didn't get his hopes high. He thought that Hazel would refuse his suggestion right away. Much to his surprise, the latter answered him the other way round!

"Fine. Let's do that." Hazel replied. She looked much more composed than before.

"Are you sure? Did I heard you wrong?!" Aiden exclaimed. He was grinning happily from his ear.

"Yes. Let's become an acquaintance. But you should give up on me if you failed to win my heart." Hazel suggested. Deep inside, she was confident that he would give up very soon; like all the men before him did.

"Sure. I will make sure that I will succeed." Aiden answered with a smile. He take out his phone and handed to Hazel. "Give me your phone number. Now that we've become an acquaintance, it is not rude to ask for your number. Isn't it?" A devilish smile plastered his face.

Hazel scowled. She take the phone from Aiden's hand and type her number. "Happy now?" She bluntly said.

"Of course." Aiden stand up and lowered his eyes to look at Hazel. "Then I'll be leaving for today. I know you're a very busy person; so thank you for sparing me your time. I'll call you later." He said with a friendly smile. Then he leave Hazel's office.

Hazel sit still for a while even after Aiden left. She recalled what she just agreed. 'What's wrong with you, Hazel? Why can't you brush him off completely? You're so foolish!' She thought to herself.

She keeps on telling herself that there's nothing to worry about. He will give up on her very soon! No man has the patience to deal with her since she became Hazel Lim. Just like everyone else, he will soon be a simple passerby in her life.....
