56 New people, New experience

Starlight and a couple of other people arrived in Phnom Penh, capital city of Cambodia. It was hot and humid since it's still summer.

Starlight's friends, Teresa, John, Ethan all joined the medical volunteer trip in hopes of getting more experiences in the medical field.

When they arrived at their hotel, they finally relaxed. Starlight and Teresa shared the same room while the guys in the other rooms.

"Starlight, I heard from my dad that your dad's company are planning on hiring medical personnel after we go back. Are you planning to join? If you are joining then I'm coming with you." Teresa said. "Haha, of course I'll join. You're welcome too." Starlight said happily. Since there's wifi in the lobby, Starlight sent a facebook message to her mom saying they arrived safely and will probably be off contact until they finished.

First week of volunteering was learning the language, doing some administration works, helping patients filling up the forms. There were lots of people from different villages coming in for treatment. First week started well

Second week, they were trained in emergency first aid which Starlight already knew. They treated patients who had cuts, scrapes, broken bones, and treating infections. They also trained them to be observant and training them to look outside the box.

Third week was hectic, many patients came with flu and other illness, lots of patients were injured due to work or accidents. Starlight's group were handling people who injured themselves. John and Starlight worked together as they helped the patients wrapping up the wound while Teresa and Ethan worked in another group. They were required to wear mask because of the virus.

Fourth week, they got to relax for a bit. Another group of doctor in their team were performing a surgery. Starlight and Teresa got curious so they went and see.

"You two, can you help us for a bit." A young doctor said.

"Sure." We both said at the same time. They were required to hold the medical instruments and follow the doctor's order of what to do since they were short on people. Starlight was fascinated by it. It's her dream to be a doctor.

Final week, they treated as many people as possible while working with doctors, physiotherapist, dentists. Starlight learned so much from them and was very happy to meet them. She learned new knowledge, learned to be observant and taking more initiative. A whole month in Cambodia changed her life. It was tiring but learning was precious for her.

It was their last day in Cambodia, the group went out to eat as usual. Starlight and Teresa went out with them for a final farewell celebration.

Starlight and her friends finally came back to China. She missed her family so much and she cannot wait to be home soon.
