Oliver notified Mercy that his driver would be picking her up by 3.
And here she was, It was only half an hour left, and she was fixing her hair.
She put on a Red knee-length, off-shoulder dress with a slit on the side on the lower part.
and black heels with some light make-up and a lipstick a little lighter in shade than her dress.
"Are you going to that Party Oliver was talking about?" She turned back to look at Aisha.
"Uh, yes. Am I looking alright?" Mercy asked, straightening her dress with her hands by the area of her hips.
"You shouldn't put on so much makeup, and I think your dress is way too short." Mercy's smile disappeared a little.
She tried so hard to look good; she was going as Oliver's partner, if she doesn't look good, it will surely impact her job.
"I...I can change-" Her words were cut off by her phone ringing.
She picked it up.
"Driver is under your street. Be there quickly; we are already late." Mercy panicked, having no choice but to leave how she got ready,
Mercy put her phone into her purse before rushing out of the door as fast as she could in heels.
_______________
Oliver looked at his watch; he had just arrived outside the hall.
and his eyes spotted another car that he sent to Mercy,
The driver opened the Car door as Mercy stepped out.
The red colour was really complementing her Caramel skin colour. Her curls were falling on her shoulders, with longer ones on her upper back.
Oliver blinked twice to get his attention away.
Mercy's eyes landed on Oliver, who was walking in her direction.
"We are just here for One hour. Come on, we need to head there quickly." Mercy nodded and followed Oliver.
"Call me by my name there; I brought you here as a partner, not as an assailant." Mercy frowned at his words. Her job was only to work as an assistant. He is making her overwork and not even being polite about it.
Mercy huffed at his tone.
They entered the Party hall. It almost looked like the palace they show in Magical movies for the ball.
It almost looked like a ball-themed party if it weren't for the music and the decorations.
"Mr. Oliver Kristoff! So Nice to see you here." A white-haired man shook Oliver's hand with a smile and turned to Mercy.
"And..."
"Mercy Grande" Oliver repeated her name as the old man held Mercy's hand.
"So Nice to see you here too, Mrs. Mercy Kristoff." Mercy's eyes widen at the misunderstatement.
"Oh no, no, I am not... not his."
"She is just a friend." Oliver completed her sentence with a gentle smile on his face.
"Oh, oh, Sorry for the misunderstanding." The man said and signalled them to get inside in a welcoming gesture,
There were more people than Mercy expected. Men and Women were seated around in groups, some even chatting while standing up with glasses of drink in their hands.
Many of the people came up to Oliver and greeted him. Mercy was so often called Mrs. Kristoff' that They both stopped correcting the people.
Oliver could feel her tense up when someone approached them. Oliver soon got served a glass of champagne, and Mercy politely declined the servers. She can't tolerate alcohol at all.
"Thank you for helping me." Oliver said Mercy was visibly shaken. Honestly, she really didn't expected him to be thankful or to say thank you.
"Welcome? I guess?" Mercy said it in a sarcastic tone.
"I will leave first; You will leave a few minutes after me; I need you to grab some files I have on my email; and then the driver will drive you to a company; You will need to help me out in another urgent meeting." Urgent meeting? She wasn't even fully prepared, not to mention how insecure and unconfident she was feeling in this outfit after Aisha told her it was too much.
"Sir but-"
"But what? It is nothing serious, just a small meeting." Mercy nodded and looked down in her lap. She doesn't have a choice, does she?
"Can I have enough time to change into something else?"
"I don't think we will have enough time to go with what you are wearing right now."
"It doesn't look good, I know."
"It does. It really does look good."
Oliver mentally slapped himself for saying it out loud.
No wonder she was looking beautiful.
but he can't just say it out loud like that.
Mercy's cheeks heated up, and she couldn't deny the strange feeling, just like when they were younger.
Mercy shrugged the thoughts off; thinking about the past was the last thing she wanted to do.
"Alright." Mercy mumbled out
Oliver cleared his throat, trying to avoid awkwardness and A lady in her late 30s Came up to Oliver and gently hugged him before greeting
"And this is?" She asked, pointing at Mercy,
"A friend, Mercy This is the wife of Sebastian Hemsworth, Rose. Where is Mr. Hemsworth?" Mercy's face started turning pale when she heard his name.
Oh, Maybe he won't be here. He said if he does, He will be arriving at the last minute. You're invited to have dinner with us sometimes, since you are now business partners too." Mercy sighed in relief, hoping he wouldn't be here. She honestly felt bad for this sweet woman.
A bastard like Sebastian didn't deserve a lady like her.
Soon enough, after some small announcements, She walked up to the stage.
As much as Mercy understood, It was about the woman named Rose's company opening a new branch.
She completed speaking on the mic, giving credit to her husband.
Everyone cheered, passing comments that Mercy didn't understand.
Ok, so I am leaving right now. In a few minutes, I will give the driver a call, and he will call you outside to take you to the office." Mercy nodded. She just wanted to be out of this place.
Oliver had an interview with some media channels today, and after that, he had a small urgent meeting at another company.
Mercy awkwardly looked around after Oliver left; she was the only person sitting alone.
She felt more anxious as she didn't know a single face here.
She smiled when Rose came up to her table with a smile.
"Congratulations!" Mercy said as Rose glared at her.
"After you are done trying to seduce my husband? Now you are after Oliver?" Rose said.
"Excuse me-"
"You think I don't know how you were trying to throw yourself at my husband?"
"I wasn't the one who was throwing myself over anyone; I think your bastard of a husband is Manipulating you badly.
He was the one who tried to Assault me, told me to stay shut, and threatened to put my name on a blacklist so I wouldn't get a job anywhere." Mercy said it right in the face of the woman, who was turning red from anger.
Mercy took long breaths while going outside. She will just wait for the driver outside.
She was stopped by the Man who welcomed them in the beginning.
"You're leaving? Oliver left early too." Mercy sighed, trying to handle the situation.
"He actually had something important to do. I will take my leave then." She said and started to walk out of the hall until she bumped into someone by her back.
"Sorry." A strong arm held her wrist tightly.
"How dare you tell my wife?"
