2 The bus

I took a quick glance around my room making sure I didn't forget anything. Today had to be perfect I couldn't mess up this opportunity that I got. Brushing my hands over my old long skirt I walked towards the front door. It's a miracle that I had a few pieces of thread and a needle so that I could sew the hole that appeared in my skirt from the amount of times I used it. The skirt may be ugly but it's serves it purpose.

Grabbing my keys I walked out my main door and carefully closed it being mindful that the last time I slammed this door the hinges almost came out and I couldn't afford to pay for a new door.Walking to the bus station the familiar ache in my stomach reminded me that I haven't ate anything since Sunday and since it was now Tuesday I knew I had to get some food in me before I passed out in the interview.Pulling out the wrinkled bus schedule from my skirt pocket I saw that the bus was arriving at 7:45am. Checking my phone I saw that the time was currently 7:04.

I quickly shoved my phone and the bus schedule into my skirt pocket fearful that someone might take my two most prized possessions. My phone means so much to me. It is not a flashy iPhone with all its unnecessary gadgets. It's a nice flip phone. It may not be much to others but it means so much to me.Its very convenient. It provides me with anything that I could possibly need, a clock, a calendar, an alarm and of course a calculator. Gosh I love my phone so much.I walked down the familiar uneven stone tiles towards my second favorite "grocery store". It wasn't exactly a grocery store but I found myself buying a lot of groceries from this place. The bright lights could still be seen in the 7am sunshine. The blinking red and blue lights of the dollar store stared me in the face. The cashier turned around when he saw me walk in and soon returned back to his phone.I walked to the food aisle and saw all the countless options of unhealthy foods. This is why I hated the dollar store. But I couldn't go to my first favorite "grocery store" Andys' due to the fact that I worked there and I had called in sick so I could get this interview.I rummaged through my other pocket to try and find some money to buy some food. I knew I needed to save enough money for bus tickets too.The company that I was interviewing at was three buses away. I needed enough money for the three buses there and also enough money to come back home."Hopefully this is enough to cover me going and for me to come back" I muttered under my breath.I grabbed two bottles of water, a pack of gum, and two bags of unhealthy chips. As I walked towards the cashier I passed by the spray section and couldn't resist from spraying my self head to toe in perfume since I saved my showers for night time to save money.Checking the computer I saw that my total. After paying for my food I walked out and went to wait for the bus since it would be arriving in 20 minutes.Sitting down on the uncomfortable plastic chairs I realized that I couldn't walk into an interview with a plastic bag.Returning back to the Dollar Store, I searched, and asked some employees but the Dollar Store didn't have any other bags other than paper and plastic.A couple of blocks away was the thrift store and I knew they had to have some kind of bag. I quickly jogged to the Thrift Store and as soon as I walked in the bags were against the wall.I grabbed the cheapest one which was brown with green flowers and the brown matched my skirt so I picked that one and walked to my second cashier of the day. I paid the two dollars a young girl with tattoos asked for and I jogged back to the bus stop.Checking my phone once more I saw that the bus would be here in 10 minutes. As I waited for the bus I opened my bag of chips and flattened it out because the last thing I want is for my bag to make a crinkling sound for every step I took. That would be very unprofessional. I also placed my water bottles, gum, phone, my job application information, bus schedule and money inside my bag. I made sure to have enough bus fare in my hand incase the bus came.

A couple of minutes later more people came and sat down as we waited for the bus. This wait is what led me start questioning myself. I really needed this job. My rent is due next week and I'm already behind in last month's rent. It was a miracle when I got my landlords son Clyde, to extend my time. I was sure that it was because of the slight crush he had on me, that made him willing to extend the date. Me working at Andys', the local grocery store, barely pays the bill. Looking into the distance I saw the familiar lights of the bus coming my way. I stood up next to the sign so that I could be the first one on which would guarantee me a better seat than the last person. As the bus pulled up in front of me I climbed up and put my money inside and sat down in the front. I knew exactly where I was going even though I had never been to the rich part of town, but due to the extensive research that I did yesterday in the library about how to get to the company by bus and by foot I knew I couldn't get lost. Taking my first bag of chips out I took small bites knowing that this bag had to last me the whole day.
