Ils sont revenus en août 2021… Qui ? Les talibans Mais il y a un peu plus de vingt ans… la première vague de talibans déferlait et régnait sur l’Afghanistan de 1996 à 2001 : c’était la première génération. Les pères, les oncles, les grands-frères de ceux d’aujourd’hui. Pourtant en octobre 2001, quelques semaines après les attentats du 11 septembre contre les tours du World Trade Center, les représailles américaines mettaient en déroute les talibans : le régime chutait ; les talibans, avec Ben Laden et Al Qaida, se réfugiaient dans la montagne afghane... En ce début de récit nous sommes au printemps 2003 soit près d'un an et demi après la chute du régime taliban en Afghanistan. Le hommes afghans sont déboussolés par l'arrivée des Occidentaux, des valeurs dites universelles et du féminisme ! Les talibans doutent de leur masculinité et de leur virilité... Les dégâts psychologiques sont considérables. Mais un psy français et trois de ses patients, appelés à la rescousse par les services culturels de l'ambassade de France, viendront au chevet des talibans dépressifs. Ces hommes témoigneront d'une "résilience" bien masculine... Ben Laden sera rassuré... Ce récit est peut-être vrai ; il est pour le moins vraisemblable. C'est une histoire d'hommes rebelles et malmenés, qu'ils soient afghans ou français. C'est une histoire de voyages, de rencontres remarquables dans l'Hindu Kush ; aventures qui sauveront quelques-uns de ces hommes, déjà de leurs illusions… Cette farce philosophique nous interroge avec humour sur le relativisme des valeurs et sur le mal-être des hommes, toutes nationalités, cultures, religions... confondues

A couple of years ago, I stumbled off the subway in Upper Manhattan, exhausted after a long and stressful day at work, dreaming about the warmth of my bed. I stopped in a 7/11 on the way to my apartment to buy a bag of popcorn (treat yourself!). A man about three times my size stood in front of me at the register buying a pack of cigarettes and turned toward me, telling me I looked tired. I smiled uncomfortably and became noticeably more alert, as a young woman does when a strange man starts talking to her at night. He turned toward the cashier and said that he was going to get my snack too. I politely declined and was already pulling out my wallet, but this man wouldn’t allow me to say no. He handed the cashier a couple of extra dollars to cover my popcorn and told me that he hoped my night got better. He walked out of the store and I never saw him again. The world could use a little more kindness. It’s so easy to get caught up in your own routine and everyday personal worries that sometimes we just don’t remember to tune into those around us. The man who paid for my popcorn has stuck with me and inspired me to pay it forward to others who look like they could use a hand. It feels great to be kind, so it’s a win-win!
