2 Chapter 2

"Mmmmm I love McD's so fu-freaking much" we kept our promise to Sammy, we made a quick stop to McDonald's, just getting a quick meal before we hit the road. We weren't far from home, I mean our former home. But I wasn't too nervous about it. Kiera gave me an idea about where we were going, maybe about a 2 hour drive, we weren't going out of the country or anything, how could we anyway? We didn't have much money and I don't even have my passport. They didn't have the resources to find us anyway. We could have moved five minutes away and they probably wouldn't be able to find us.

"How's your happy meal baby girl?"

"It's good mommy, but…" uh oh

"But what? They forgot something didn't they? This happens every goddamn time. I'm going in there." oh god, she's gonna make a scene.

"Maybe I should go in instead." I really didn't want her to make a scene or anything

"Nah, I got this. I'll be back." she grabbed the happy meal from Sammy and the receipt got out the car and walked towards the store.

"Where have you been? It's been like over half an hour" Kiera got back into the car with a small smile on her face

"Here baby" she handed Sam the happy meal. I looked at her a little confused. Why is she smiling so much?

"I got free food." that's why she was smiling so much.

"How'd you do that?"

"Well, when I got in the person I talked to was extremely rude, asked for the manager, pretended he wasn't here 'cause she knew at this point her ass was fired. But like two seconds later the manager walks out from wherever and so I tell him what happened and he refunded us and gave us everything we ordered for free." I wasn't too surprised when she told me this. I've worked in a few fast few places and they do this kinda thing a lot, especially when dealing with an angry customer.

"Oh damn, that's great. Love me some free food."this really was great, now we didn't have to worry about what we'll eat for dinner.

"We should get going now, can't have this little one out too late, even if it is summer break now." she was right, he had to keep moving.

"Where are we moving again?" I notice her stiffen a little.

"With my dad."

"But I thought you and him didn't-"

"We reconnected after… what happened. I reached out to him, I needed money, I was desperate, I didn't know what to do. He asked why I needed it and I had to just come clean."

I couldn't help but feel bad for her. She's been through some tough times, especially in the last year, with her boyfriend going to jail and everything, it wasn't easy for her. But I also knew how bad her relationship with her dad was, she hated him.

"I'm so sorry Kiki, I'm sorry you have to go through this, I wish I could have helped you, I should have done more. Now because of me we have to move in with him, I'm so sorry Kiera I-"

"June, you were in high school, dealing with things no seventeen year old should ever have to deal with. We both needed to move, or both our safety, I'll be fine living with my dad, it might even be good, for Sammy at least. Things are better now, at least they will be."

"I don't deserve you Kiera, you're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

"Oh shush, you gonna make me cry and then my makeup gon' be ruined." she really was the best thing that's happened to me so far, she's always been there for me, since the day I met her she's been helping me, she like the big sister I never had and I'm so grateful to have her.

I must have fallen asleep for awhile, because when I woke it looked like we were in a different world I'd never known.

"Where are we?"

"We're here."
