A Childs Growth

After those events, my life fell into a year-long monotony of sitting under the sun every morning, forming a fire brid, making it grow little by little.

Lilith always watching me from a distance, my parents working as adventurers. Well-known ones here in Tsige. 

I looked at the sky "I'm bored..." Around the house was a tall wooden fence blocking the view of the outside area. The space between the fence and the house was also quite big to run around. However, I had no friends to pass the time with. 

"Young master, how about going out to visit the nearby orphanage? Make some friends there?" Lilith suggested from her spot.

"Great idea Lilith!" I jumped up from a sitting position and ran to the gate in front of the house, Lilith trailing behind me.

A dirt road led from my house to the paved streets of the city, greenery framed the dirt road. Trees and bushes decorated the area for the few minutes we had to walk we had to travel on that road. When we finally started walking inside the city I was looking around, eager to see what new thing I would find just around a corner. 

Everything here was new to me, even different from the fragmented memories left after the memory injection from before. For the four years I've been alive I have been at home the whole time.

Buildings, stalls, people, even some wearing armor and weapons. All the women I saw were extremely attractive or for my untrained eye, pretty. At least comparing them to the ones in my memories.

"The orphanage is a few blocks ahead of us, Young Master." She said from a little behind me. 

I could see it from here, it was a big building with a huge backyard, or it could have been a free area with no fence behind the building leading into the wild. As we got near I saw hills and 1 tree at the top of the middle hill. The side of the building was facing us.

Boys were playing with wooden swords and the girls were either watching the boys or playing some kind of make-believe, an older lady was hanging white sheets to dry. One girl was helping her, she looked a bit older than me. A boy sat away from where the other boys were playing, he had short white hair, green emerald eyes, and a light smile as he watched the other kids play around.

"Wait for me here," I told Lilith before going to the kid sitting. "Hello, why are you here alone instead of over there playing with the rest?" I asked him when I reached his spot.

"I lost, I was the first one so I'm out." He replied sounding defeated.

"What are you playing?"

"Adventurers and monsters, whoever wins get the leftover cake from yesterday." He said, getting up with his hands on his hips and pumping his chest out. "But I lost." He deflated down as soon as he remembered that. "My name is Lime Latte but you can call me Lime, all my friends do!" He introduced himself after he remembered he lost.

"Hello I am Nouzen Entei but you can call me Entei, you are the first friend I have made so far." I really made a friend!!! I'm so happy.

"After the winner is decided we will play again, do you want to join us?" Lime asked.

"Yes, I'd very much would like to hehehe." I replied almost screaming it and giggling.

"Ok let me explain the rules, First rule try not to hit anyone, second rule adventurers always win, so if you end up as a monster you have bad luck. And the last rule is don't go out of the backyard, or too far from the orphanage. Those are the rules got it?" He explained to me.

"How does one win or defeat the monster?" I get you don't want to inflict pain on one another but then how do you defeat the monster? I was very confused at that part.

"Oh you or the monster call out attacks like those awesome adventurers do it and do the motion for the attack, if it's near another person it hits. But someone doesn't want to play fair and say it didn't hit so be sure someone else saw it." He said bringing his chin up like a master teaching his student.

"Oh yeah, you don't have a sword right?" He turned to me and asked, and after a shake of my head, he proposed something. "Ok let's go search for fallen branches near those trees."

He got up and we started moving to the trees. "Hey, where are you going Lime?" A boy with short blond hair called Lime from where the rest of the kids were playing. He was holding a branch and using it as a sword "We are going over to the trees to find a sword." The boy nodded and went back to playing with the rest.

We moved bushes around and looked around the trees until we found one. It was a simple branch, a bit long and curved to it forming something like a crescent shape to it.

As we came back the boys were resting on the grass having finished the previous game. "Hey did you find one over there?" The same blond boy asked us when we made it to where they were.

"Yes Reigner we found one," Lime said swinging the newly found 'sword' around.

"Great c'mon then let's start a new game, we have a new player too so let's get the choosing sticks!" One of the boys ran to the orphanage and brought a cup with many sticks in it, two of them had a red tip. He took those out along with six that didn't. "Ok there are eight of us so two will be the monsters." placing the cup on the ground held the eight sticks, hiding the red-tipped ones among them, and moved them around. "Ok you go first new boy." The boy beamed me a huge smile waiting for me to choose.

He was covering the stick's ends with his hands but in the see-thru world, I saw which ones were safe and pulled one out that would make me an adventurer. "You will be an adventurer in this game!" He then moved to someone else for them to choose. When everyone got a stick saying they were either a monster or an adventurer we started the game.

"Hahahaha" I laughed enjoying the game of tag we were all playing.

Lilith got closer to me "Young Master" calling for my attention and being sure I was facing her. "It is time to go, it is getting dark, tomorrow we can come by but right now we have to get you home."

I looked up it was getting dark and that meant my father and mother would already be heading home. "Yes let's go home" I turned around to face the group "I have to go, I will be back to play more tomorrow." I waved to them, grabbed my branch from the ground, and walked back home with Lilith.

"Did you have fun today?" I nodded enthusiastically to her question. "That is good to know, now what do you want to do with that branch you got there?"

"I want to shape it like a sword... Although I can't shape it like those straight swords the adventurers had. I want it to look like the one we have on the wall at home."

"Do you mean the katana?" She asked, her finger lifting her chin.

"Yes that one, so it's called a katana." I want one, for now, let's shape this branch like it.

"When we got home, my mother was waiting by the door. "MY BABY BOY!!!!!!!" She came at me, with streams of tears steaming like waterfalls falling sideways. She picked me up in a huge and spun me around while rubbing her cheek on mine "Where were you? I came home and didn't find my baby so tell me" She held me by the armpit and hung me in front of her. She blew up her cheeks, pouted her lips, and furrowed her brows like one does when she's are "angry".

"I was at the orphanage with Lilith making new friends" I gave her a huge smile "Oh and I also got this sword you see!" I started swinging around my sword/branch until she brought me in for a hug. "Can we have dad shape it like a katana?"

"Uuu my baby has friends!!" She brought me in for a hug and ran into the house screaming that her baby was back.

"What happened, what happened?" My father came rushing to the living room.

"Our baby made friends today, he is growing too fast," she suddenly started crying "it's your fault he is growing so fast."

"Wait what, how is that my fault?" He looked stunned at her.

"If you weren't an idiot he wouldn't feel the need to grow up fast and become the man of the house!! HMPH!!" She then turned back to me "Don't worry about that dummy, you don't have to grow up so fast ok?" She started humming me a lullaby and taping my back lightly. "Now go shape the branch like a katana." After saying one final thing she went to humming to make sleep in her arms.

"What did I do this time?" He turned while asking Lilith but she was gone.
