Two Sides of a Coin

Cognitive dissonance---when your mind is telling you not to do something but you are doing it anyway, resulting for you to think of reasons to justify doing it to placate your conscience errrr mind.. For example, let us take the case of a friend of mine. For confidentiality purpose, let us call him person Y. Above-mentioned person is now hiding inside the mecha room for almost 2 days now under his false guise of improving his dear mechanical robot Tan-tan. (Do not begin to ask me about his robot's name or i swear i can write a whole article about that childish name.) But actually, his unusuall behavior begun when he found out that a new girl, named person X for this case, will be his partner for the next mission on going to satellite 'mingming' (Do not begin again to criticize how i choose to nicknamed satellites, i know what i am doing unlike a certain baka team mate of mine.) I like that girl though. She's so cute! Kawaii!!! (Ok, reverting back to my professional self.) She's outstanding having graduated from X academy at the mere age of 15 and later on recruited by US military base. And now, 18, she's being transferred to Camp Mecha to be an agent in the search for the 'moon piece'. My first impression on her made me question the rumors about the ruthlessness of the academy she graduated from. She reminded me of a fresh blooming flower---refreshing and captivating. I still have insufficient data about her academic and fighting style records, but I will update after her first mission.

Now, certain person Y is trying to avoid person X by hiding inside the mecha room. And person X is clueless about that. She doesn't know his stereotype against students from her school. And so, he stubbornly clings to his preconceive ideals, by being cold towards her regardless of her good behavior. Just to justify his unjustifiable acts (you know what I mean?).

"No, I don't."

A soundless scream and a quick left hook are the automatic reactions Amy made which are swiftly dodge by Hayato. Upon realizing who sneaks behind her, she gaves a sign of relief, "Oh it is just you."

"..." (what's that suppose to mean?)

"It is ungentleman of you to do that."

"Says the girl who gives punches as initial reaction."

"You shouldn't criticize a lady."

"Says the lady who doesn't know how to scream femininely."

"I am wasting my time on you."

"Oh, you are lucky for having my time. In fact, i am just here to help you gather data to enhance what you are writing."

With that, the annoyance changed to brightness in Amy's eyes. "What do you have for me?"

"Just come, your brother is being beaten by the new comer at the training hall."

"Oh."

They both sprinted and saw Sano and Yume sparing. At first, Amy cannot believe that her brother will be defeated and thought that he is just going easy on his new team mate. But it did not take long before she notices that both are serious and is enjoying the fight. What's more, it is observable that the adorable beauty transforms into a fierce lion when fighting and right now she is able to supress his brother's attack with just simple and precise moves.

"What 'help in gathering data' is this Hayato?"

"You are watching how she fight..."

"I cannot gather suffucient data here. Aside from the fact that she's fast and flexible, all i can see is how she beats my brother without having to reveal her exact ability."

"She's a monster."

"..."

"I mean good looking but with terrifying fighting potential."

As the two onlookers continue to banter with each other, Sano and Yume sunddenly stop after the alarm rang signifying the end of their sparring. They just look at each other, somewhat communicating silently, and at the same time both smiled and bowed.

"You reminded me of Haru when i first met him. Give him some time and he will eventually realized his stupidity." With that, both laughed causing Amy and Hayato to stop arguing with each other and walk closer for curiosity.

"Wow, Yume, you fight great."

"Thanks. It is because I have a great sparring partner. Haven't enjoyed this much for a long time."

Stunned, Hayato asked, "So you are not constantly training? When is the last time you trained? The last time you fight?"

Yume pondered the question for a moment before answering, "When I was still inside the X academy I guess, 5 years ago."

"You were not trained by the military?"

"Oh that..No.. I was not recruited to be a agent in the first place but as a researcher. So I do not have chances like this one. My usual routine revolves around occasional conferences with fellow researchers and analyzing data inside the military lab."

Hayato look towards Amy--' See, i told you she's a monster.' Rather than answering Hayato's silent stare, Amy questioned the frail-looking girl like a reporter smelling news.

" Weird, though. You did not enter our team as a researcher. I heard you are here to help us upgrade our machines. It coincided with the spread of rumors about a genius being transferred to aid Haru."

"I don't know about the genius part but i am assigned here to customized your robots based on your combat style."

"While we are at it, could you answer this personal question of mine?"

"Sure Hayato. What?"

"You are Haru's arranged fiancee right? You looked so familiar and it took me a while to figure it out since I only saw you once and Haru never."

Yume smiled and a dimple appeared, "Yes."
