2 2. Chapter (The Beginning part 2)

When I see Sophie smiling apologetically on the other side of the counter, I know that the day or what's left of it has gone.

Sophie is my best friend ever since I joined the guild and also responsible for my job enrollment, she's sort of my lady of choice for everything that concerns the guild.

"Good evening Anul, have you probably finished your job, eh?"

"Evening Sophie and I just finished and wanted to log me out, take a shower and eat something."

"I'm sorry sweetie but I've already enrolled you for a new job and you still have to go there today."

"I told you, you aren't supposed to enrol me without asking me first!"

"Actually, I did not enrol but they demanded you!"

I answer this information only with an unwilling grunt and put my signature under the formula that Sophie pushes me over.

With that everything was said and I want to leave the hall when Sophie puts an envelope with the information for my new job before me and winks.

I moan and leave the hall to walk to the two spiral staircases in the corner of the hall and shuffle them up.

Halfway up the stairs I almost fall flat and remember the fact that the elevator had been repaired and I took the stairs for nothing.

At the top, plain corridors and apartments stretched out.

I have to go to the 3rd floor so I'll be shuffling up the next floors, which are all the same.

At the top, I go into one of the corridors to reach my apartment.

I pick out my key and unlock my door seconds later. As I enter the apartment I feel a slight barrier running over me. In my absence, no one has messed with my apartment.

Actually I wanted to take a shower and go to bed but instead, I open the envelope to read the content.

Dear Miss Anul Rats

We invite you to a midnight meal at La Luna.

We will wait for you there and give you the remaining information for your order.

Yours sincerely

Mr Lun

I curse loudly and drop the letter on the coffee table in front of me.

Mr Lun was one of the city's most influential people, and besides Mr Sulon, the richest.

The two families have been feuding for years and I have no interest in participating in the feud.

Unfortunately, not appearing at such a meeting would only lead to further attention and perhaps also define me as an unknown variable. Which only causes trouble.

So I went to the right adjoining bedroom and pulled out my only blazer. La Luna is all about the rich society, and accordingly, the dress code was the same.

Actually, as a woman, you should appear there in an evening dress, but since I was travelling on business and you never know what you would have expected, I rather go with the blazer if push to shove a dress will only limit my the freedom of movement.

In addition, a white blouse and two hair rods with pickpockets, a little Mack up and I was done!

La Luna was not so far away in the Mittelstadt and as I was late, I would take a taxi.

Upon entering the restaurant, formal darkness and splendour welcome me.

Everything was decorated with silver diamonds while the colour of the walls was light enough to create a homey feel as an atmosphere.

A man in a butler uniform comes up to me.

"Miss Rats, May I accompany her to Mr Lun?"

On my nod, he leads me through the entrance of the hall and the dining area into a private room with a long table with a cover.

Well, now I am here as the games begin.

Two of the seats are already occupied. 40. both with swords and pistols included.

A butler led me to a chair and I sit down.

My day was already long, so I do not put it on a conversation and the other two appear as well. In the silence, we sit in the room. I rest my head on my hand and look around more closely. Opposite me is a window front that lets one look into the dark night lit by lights. The lights of a beautiful contrast to the dark houses. The yellow lanterns stand against the silver light and all that is needed to perfect this view is to make a silver-white moon.
