11 Cobalt blue

If a hunter were to be in the forest right now the sight they would see would have them question their sanity. A Nargacuga was gathering berries and insects. Lucius who has only ever interacted with his Mom has no idea that among monsters he is an anomaly. Because of his past as a human Lucius has retained some of his old ideals and quirks. One of them being a love for pets.

As he was once a scout Lucius spent a great amount of time within the forests searching for tracks and traces of monsters. And during those expeditions he would encounter various small endemic life such as Kelbi, hares, and parrots.

What started out as saving injured animals turned into adopting them. He had a single kelbi, three hares, and five parrots. Each was one he found injured and which he nursed back to full health. He had saved many more but these ones were the few that grew attached to Lucius.

Lucius wasn't worried about how they were doing because his brightest student Kelly promised to take care of them should something happen to Lucius. Now that Lucius was given a chance to have a companion once again he took it.

"This should be enough right? I'll just bring them all back and let Cobalt pick what he wants."

Yes, Lucius named the baby Yian Kut-Ku Cobalt even though it is actually indigo. The reason being Cobalt sounded cooler. Cobalt was currently somewhere between six and ten months old because he had already grown the large ears Yian Kut-Ku are known for.

During the infant stages Yian Kut-Ku have no need for the large ears to detect predators because the parent watches over it. However once the Yian Kut-Ku ends infancy and enters child hood it must be able to run away from predators because the parents will not be constantly monitoring the baby anymore. The ears will grow to such a large size they are reminiscent of a dilophosaurus frill. The ears act as a sound receiver directing all noise directly to the ear.

Cobalt has fully grown ears in comparison to his body size which doesn't make sense because Cobalt is still the size of a four month old. Lucius believes that the size and coloration of Cobalt must be do to a mutation from the parent's genes. While Blue Yian Kut-Ku have been sighted before they are to few and far between to be believed a subspecies.

Lucius gathers up all the berries and bugs he had collected pushing them onto a makeshift sled he created from the carbalite tree he finally knocked down. He split it down the middle vertically and carved out the center leaving a half log with a carved out core.

Making use of his prehensile tail Lucius wrapped it around the log and dragged it back to the nest. As soon has he arrived Cobalt flew over and landed on his shoulder.

-Chirp!-

"Cobalt I brought you some food, come and see what you want."

While Cobalt coudn't speak he wasn't stupid. Cobalt was able to follow Lucius' instructions to stay in the nest and not wander off. Cobalt could also fly to Lucius when he called his name.

Cobalt landed on the pile of food and started to chow down. Though Cobalt was small he could eat a lot. He would eat so much he would get a little pot belly every time he was finished. Lucius hoped this would go towards Cobalt's growth and not make him fat. So far Cobalt has not gained any significant amount of weight, most of it was coming from Cobalt's growth spurt.

In the three months it took Lucius to recover Cobalt had grown significantly from when Lucius first took him in. When he first found Cobalt he was about as big as Lucius' paw, but now he's a bit bigger than Lucius' head. Cobalt was still small enough to sit on Lucius' shoulder much to Lucius' delight.

Lucius also had grown a few feet bigger. His muscles were stronger and his stamina was greater. Lucius was surprised at how fast his body healed but he was also proud of his first scars. On his right shoulder there is a patch or fur where the skin underneath grew back a light shade of pink while the fur itself was a light grey while being much shorter than the surrounding fur.

Cobalt also had a similar scar on his back where the scaled plating turned white contrasting the blue. Lucius felt that the scar he and Cobalt shared was very precious because it symbolizes the day he faced a great adversary and gained a great companion.

-Chirp!-

"Was that enough?"

-Chirp!-

Sounding satisfied Lucius interpreted it as a yes.

"Okay let's rest a bit before we resume training and then we wait for Mom to come home."

-Chirp!-
