1 1. Life is only a game

It was just another day for me... same old same old... 3 AM with my eyes locked on to the screen that was the only thing providing light in my room, with the usual dark bags under my eyes and constant yawning.

It had been a while since i took up gaming as a hobby. At first it was a recommendation from a shrink that my mother forced me to go to... " it will help distract his mind from his violent tendencies " that's what the egg head said.

To be honest i didn't have " violent tendencies " at least in my eyes *yawn* after all, the so called " gangsters " that loved to terrorise the kids in my school were the ones to get my way...

So of course i had to oblige and provide them with the reason as to why everyone in the school had decided to avoid me like the plague. Hahaha just thinking back to it makes me crack a smile... i love that face my prey makes when it's defeated... the despair, the agony, the denial and finally... the complete realisation that they are nothing when faced against true power.

But, after my new found love for games... life had become a game for me...

The clicking in the background intensified as i thought back to the first time i made someone rage quit in a game, haha the fact that even when they are not faced with any actual or real consequences the weak become arrogant. After all... what do i have to loose? it's only a game... right?

And that exact thinking is what makes it so delightful when they understand just how superior true talent is...

My train of thought is cut off by what is going on in my screen, i was about to defeat the last monster in the game Monster Hunter World, Xeno'jiiva, the big fucker was kicking my ass ... i guess trying to beat it with my hammer that's not really upgraded was too much of a challenge.

When the fight was reaching it's pinnacle... after i figured out it's attack patterns and started to finally fight back...

There was a bright light that blinded my eyes.

What the hell? did the monitor malfunction? Damn i can't see shit with how bright it is, my eyes were adjusted to the darkness of my room.

After a while the light finally faded... and what i saw left me, well how do i put this?...hmmmm

absolutely, unquestionably, unimaginably... brain fucked

i mean... i was just in my room, but now i'm sitting in what looked to be a house that you would find deep in the woods, with an old man looking straight into my eyes.

Now, the surprising thing was NOT the house, or the big wooden desk, or the fire place, or the sunlight entering through the windows... no, it was the fact that the old man looked exactly like me, but well... you know... old.

The same dark brown eyes, sharp eyebrows, and jett black hair that i always saw in the mirror looked like they had been worn out by time. But there was no mistaking it, that was my usual boring and average face staring right back at me, and let me tell you... it was freaky as hell, and the fact that even as an old man i looked just as boring as i did now kinda hurt my pride a little.

As i was having a little inner discussion about " it's not the outside that matters, it's the inside "... the old man decided to finally speak.

Old man: "So...are you ready to learn about why i have brought you to this place? or are you going to keep having meaningless conversations with yourself?. "

Damn i must have smoked a bunch in the future because my voice sounded scruffy and rough *sigh* anyways i decided to answer myself? him?... whatever.

M.C: "Yeah sure go ahead, but if you dare tell me this is some kind of show like those on TV, i swear i'll make you regret it. "

It seems the old man got really scared because i noticed that he started to shake

Old man: " pff HAHAHAHA!!! oh oh That's the best joke a mortal has told me in thousands...no millions of years. HAHAHA!! " uhg so my hunch was right...*sigh* i hate it when i'm powerless

After he finished giggling and wiped away his tears the old man finally got his composure back... the fact that he laughed at me really made me angry, but i knew i could not do anything, after all... what dumbass would dare raise his hand against God himself?

Old man: " hoh? seems like i was right about you... to think that you would figure out my identity instead of panicking or throwing a fit about what happened " hmp, this old snake was trying to test me. I hate it when people underestimate me

Old man: " well, enough of that. now to the main point about why i brought you here..." the happy old man was gone, and in his place stood a stone cold geezer with a glare that, as much as i hate to admit, made me feel insignificant.

Old man: " you see boy, when one lives this long, the ways to entertain myself make all the difference on how i pass my time. And since my time is eternal, unlike yours, i find myself bored quite easily. " he said while sipping a cup of what smelled like some sort of herbal tea.

Old man: " and can you guess what my most recent way of entertainment is? " hmm well given what has occurred recently, i would bet that...

M.C: " reincarnation, i don't know the specifics of it but i'm willing to bet it's that " a disgusting grin was plastered on his face, or mine? i must remember to never smile like that... it gives me the creeps

Old man: " spot on young one, you are truly what i was hoping for when i started searching the earth for interesting candidates. "

Old man: " it's just as you said, i'm selecting people who caught my eye and giving them the choice to be reborn in another world with powers " hahaha what an interesting turn of events, it seems that my life is about to get a whole lot more challenging. But i LOVE A CHALLENGE!

Old man: " good you are excited, let's not waste any more time then. First i will tell you a few things you should know, you can choose the world and power you get, no system or cheat abilities because i already have a lot of boring people running around with that. I want something more entertaining and from what i understand you like a challenge, so i guess this is perfect. Tell me when you made your choice "

Hmmm ok then... what would be an interesting challenge for me. The first thing i should take into account is what world i will get sent to, after that, i can decide what powers would be best suited for that specific place.

And after some thought i decided to go with the My Hero Academia world. It was in the modern age, it had no crazy world destroying powers and it had just the right level of challenge to make for an interesting life.

Next is my power, or in this case quirk, what would be a cool quirk that would give me an advantage but not make me one punch my way through everything... hmm, and just when i was about to consider some powers like Superman or Spider-Man, an idea stuck my mind like lighting.

M.C: " oy! old man, i finally decided... i want to be reborn in my hero academia with a quirk that has to do with the game Monster Hunter "

Old man: " hmm, good choices. Well how about you specify a bit more about your quirk, i want you to think this through a bit before deciding. "

M.C: " ok, the quirk should allow me to do the same physical feats as a hunter, from lifting massive blades to blocking hits from monsters like it was nothing. That's not all, i want to be able to hunt those same monsters that appear in the game and collect their parts to craft the weapons and items in the game. hmm i think that's everything really "

M.C: " so what do you think old man? this should make it interesting, for me and you"

Old man: " HAHAHA! truly amusing, i knew picking you was the right choice. Tell you what, as an added bonus for telling me that joke earlier i'll give you the knowledge on how to craft and put together the weapons and items from what you gather... after all, you still need to gather the materials and fight the monsters so i think it's pretty fair. "

Perfect! i could already feel my blood boil just thinking about fighting all of the massive monsters.

Old man: " i guess in the end i might have to give you some sort of system anyways, hmm but maybe i can modify it a bit..." the old version of me started to rub his chin, and after a while he seemed to have reached a decision.

Old man: " i will give you a system with an inventory, a screen to select what area you wish to explore or what monster you wish to hunt and an information screen, so you can forget about remembering every detail and just focus on what you want. That should cover most of it, if i decide to add something it will update. "

It made sense to give me a system with those functions, after i collect more and more weapons and armour it would be a pain to store it and move it around, and i completely overlooked where exactly i would fight the monsters. The information is a nice plus.

M.C: " *sigh* well, i guess this is goodbye then. See you next time old man "

Old man: " haha! see you, hopefully not too soon. Have fun in your new interesting life young man, i will be eagerly watching " and there's that gross smile again *sigh* i must really remind myself to not smile like that...

And just like that i was swallowed by a bright light...

When i came to my senses, i was surprised that i woke up to find myself in an alley... not only that but i was in the body of a baby.

I guess my parents couldn't take care of me, or maybe they died, or i just appeared out of thin air... well, it matters not as i see what seems to be a monk of some sort walk towards me with a look of surprise...
