1 Honor

"Mom, I want that."

A kid, no older than 7, said while pointing towards a toy gun.

"You can't, those are for boys. And we don't have any money."

Instead of complaining or crying, which was expected from a child, she just looked down and quietly followed her mother.

As she was just a step behind her mother, she cannot see what could be in the front. Due to that, she did not know why her mother stopped.

"Okay, now. Be a good girl, okay?"

The girl nodded and was left behind by her mother. She then realized that it was her school.

She entered the school, headed towards her classroom, all while carrying a heavy bag.

"Good morning Kae."

As soon as she entered, she was greeted by her best friend.

"Good morning too Lottie."

Unfortunately, they do not sit besides each other thus ending the interaction between them.

"Good morning Kaella!"

A cheerful greeting was then heard by Kaella's side, it was coming from her classmate that sits by her right side.

"Oh, good morning Karl."

Their teacher soon arrived, thus ending the conversation of the two.

...

Time passed by quickly with new lectures from various subjects. Lunch was when Kaella would go out of the classroom just to be fed by her father.

It was the time that she could be a little kid.

This was also the reason she would always be late to her classes after lunch, mostly English class.

Whenever she arrived at the classroom, they would've finished the spelling exam in which she would avoid looking at the written answers on the board.

She would then take the exam and would always nail it, no matter the difficulty. She was considered a genius, someone who aces her class.

"Hey, you're really amazing. Just what can't you do?"

Karl then asked her after they checked her paper.

"I can't write."

"Huh? But you can, cause you answered the exam."

"No, it's too ugly."

A girl's voice was then heard.

"Hey, you two. What are you doing?"

"Oh, Charlotte. Well, I just asked what Kaella can't do and she just said she can't write."

Charlotte then laughed. She expected the answer but thought it was still funny.

"You see, her writing's all over the place. She probably called it ugly right?"

Karl nodded and was confused on why Charlotte was laughing at it.

"That's just how she sees it, we can't do anything about it."

Their next class soon started, making Charlotte go back to her seat.

...

As soon as classes were over, Kaella ran outside and went to her service.

"Early as ever, Kaella."

A chuckle soon followed from the lady in the service.

"Well, I need to go home and study soon Miss Rose."

Miss Rose is the lover of the driver of the school service that she takes.

"So, are you gonna eat something again today?"

Kaella shook her head and pointed to her wallet.

"I can't, I don't have money."

"You could always just ask for more from your father or even pay the next day."

"No, thank you."

Kaella smiled then went quiet. Other students started to fill in the vehicle and they soon left the school.

Despite the noise from the other students, Kaella just kept quiet until they arrived in front of her house.

"Thabk you."

She took her things and got out of the vehicle. As soon as she entered the house, she placed her things down and changed clothes.

She then did her school works and opened a book to read.

While reading, her sister entered the room as well as her mother.

"Kaella, how did your exam go?"

"I got a perfect score on almost everything."

"What? You got something wrong? That's because you've been playing games in the computer again."

"No, I..."

"How about you sweetie?"

"I also got perfect on almost all the exams. Well, that last subject was extremely hard."

"Ah, it must've been hard. Kaella, why can't you be like your sister? You're so useless and lazy."

She was then left behind by her mother and sister. Not minding what they said, she continued reading.

Just from outside the room, laughter was heard. This did not distract Kaella from reading.

The door then opened with a bang. Finally, Kaella realized she had been reading for too long.

"Kaella! I've been calling you for dinner since forever! You're just too lazy! Don't you dare ask me for food tomorrow."

The door then shut once again with a bang.

Kaella was left on her own. With the book she was once reading, now closed, she walked towards her things.

She fixed what she needed for the next day and soon just laid down on the bed.

As she stared at the ceiling, thoughts circled in her mind.

But all of it have something in common.

'Endure it and study well. That's the only honor you can give them.'
