2 Chapter 2

The morning commute seemed to be a blur as I've traveled this way for over 4 years now. I pulled up to my office a few minutes before I was expected to be there and I turned my car off and sighed. For some reason the dream hadn't left my mind yet. I wondered why. I had been dreaming of this man since the last time I saw him and I was always able to push back the dreams and thought of him but why not today. I swallowed the lump in my throat and pushed my door open. "Good morning sunshine!" I heard from behind me in a very upbeat tone. I knew exactly who it was. I turned and was met with a smile that always made me so happy. "Good morning!" I tried to match the enthusiasm my friend Jacod showed. Jacob and I started at office the same time he was so nice to me and we clicked like that. "Girl did you just break out of the convent you look like a nun?" He asked almost appalled by my conservative outfit. Jacob himself was a slender and average height man. His hair jet black almost to dark for his pale skin. He was always well dressed because he was very style conscious. "Between you and Derek I can never dress appropriately." I rolled my eyes and laughed. Jacob's nose wrinkled at my husband's name. "Don't even mention that jerk to me. If he wasn't your husband I would have been set him straight." He said with a look like he had a taste of something sour. Derek and Jacob didn't get along because Jacob was always complimenting me. Derek hated it and would cause trouble about it. The irony of it all is Jacob would more than likely have eyes for him and not me. Jacob was gay but had no problem complimenting where he seen fit. We hugged and started walking to the elevator that went to the first floor of the office we worked in. "So guess what today is." Jacod said I could tell he was about to burst. I looked at my phone. "The 15th?" I asked. "Which is two days before..." he trailed off leading me to finish the sentence. My mind scanned my mental calendar and couldn't think of anything up coming. Seeing I was still clueless he rolled his eyes and said impatiently, "Your birthday, it will be your birthday." I had completely forgotten about it. With work and home my mind was always slipping one way or the other. "Oh." I said quietly almost a whisper. I knew Jacob if anyone would make a big deal about it. "Oh?!? How about yay let's party?" he said not understanding why I wasn't as excited as he was. "I'm not feeling partying this year." I said slowly knowing he was about to freak out. "What?!? How could we not celebrate the day my best friend was born?" he almost yelled in shock. "Will you keep your voice down please? I don't want everyone in our business." He nodded in compliance and followed me to my office. My door had in gold letters "President of Event Planning". The company I work for dealt with financial dealings for multitudes of businesses. We also held and sponsored events for our clients. I sat behind my desk and closed my eyes and sighed as those hazel eyes filled the darkness. "You look like something is bothering you." Jacob said concerned. I sighed again and finally spoke, "I dreamt of him again." Jacob's eyes widened in excitement. "You dreamt of Erik again? Give me all the details was it sexual?" He looked like a child about to get a surprise. His brown eyes lit up like Christmas lights. Jacob had known about Erik. I have told him the story of how I had met him a few times. I'd also tell him how I could get this man out of my head it had been six years since I seen him last and it never got easier. "Nothing exciting, we were hugging and before I could kiss him my alarm went off." I said more sadden than I wanted to. "Damn cock blocking alarm!" Jacob said with annoyance in his voice. I laughed so hard my cheeks turned pink. He always knew how to make me laugh when I feel so down. "We are going out for lunch so be ready to head out by 11:45, I'll meet you here and we will head out." Jacod called over his shoulder before walking out of my office and leaving me with my thoughts.
