4 The Past: Side Story

A small town lies near the edge of the Land of Dawn. The people there knows everyone in the town and helps each other. They get pass the daily needs by relying on the crops and merchants. In this town lies two orphan children.

"Here! This is where we gonna live!" The girl proudly showed the hut to the boy. "This is my house where I live with my mama and papa before they got called to the capital...and never come back..." The girl suddenly sounds sad and quiet. Looking at her, the boy clenched his fists, vowing to always make her smile.

"But atleast I have you now Argus!" All of a sudden, the girl brightens up and smiles at him. She drags him inside the hut and looked inside the drawers then pulls out a steamed potato. "Here! The kind aunt gave this for me...We can share this together!" She said as she held out the steamed potato.

"Are you sure? It is for you, Rafaela." The boy, Argus said as he looks to the potato despite his stomach rumbling in hunger. "Yeah! We're family now!" She said as she breaks the potato in half and gave one to him.

'F-Family?' "Then when I grow up, I'll make you a big house and give you a lot of food!" Determined, he shouted and then blushed in sudden embarrassment. "Really? But mama once said that only a mama and a papa can live together when grown up..." She mused as she tilted her head to the side, confused.

"T-then I'll be the papa and you'll be the mama!" He said while looking away and hiding his face with his hand, blushing.

"Mmmn then call me Rafa, okay!" She said as she stared at him very closely.

"Y-yeah..."

"Ahh! Follow me!" Rafaela shouted as she ran outside the hut and towards the flower fields. Argus followed and saw her kneeling down, making something.

"Wat'cha doing Rafa?"

"This!" She swirled and showed him two flower crowns. She put one on and the other on him. "Now we're a mama and a papa!" Then flung herself towards him and pecks him on the lips.

Her laughter resounds through the entire flower field as they talk what they would put in their house together. Yet their happiness was short lived. The sound of the horn resonated across the town, as fear and terror descend upon those that hear it. In the silence that ensued, the people shivers as the mood grows anxious. Then deafening scream broke the silence when soldiers stormed through the town, leaving destruction and death on their path. On a hut right at the edge of the town, two children with nobody other than the Lord to hold unto prays with the blood curling screams and death permeating the whole town, knelt down and prayed...

"Dear heaven, please help us and make everyone happy.."..." The young girl pleaded for the peace and protection, with her unwavering faith on the Almighty Father and His Love for the people. "Hey...What did you pray for?" Rafaela asked her companion who've been quiet.

"I prayed that I will become strong, stronger than anyone else so I'll be able to protect you and our home...I'm going to defeat all our enemies and then the war would stop." Argus said as determination glistened in his eyes. Then he stood up, his hand held out to her. "Let's go, they might arrived here soon."

They hurriedly left the hut but before they even reach the outskirt of the forest, a soldier caught Rafaela. Laughing he pushed her down and said. "So there are rats trying to run away."

"Rafaela!" He shouted as the soldier pulled her hair as looked at her face. "Well, seems like there's a rat with decent face." His disgusting chuckles got goosebumps on both child.

"Let her go!" He shouted.

"Argus!" Rafaela shouted at him, her hands trying to reach his. "Run! Get away!"

"No! I'm going to save you!" He shouted as he ran towards the two but the soldier only sent him flying across them.

"Oho, what's this? Two little lovers trying to escape while their town people died. What a love!" The soldier mocked as he raises his sword. "How about you watch me take the life from your....Rafaela was it?"

"NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Argus screamed as the soldier swung down his sword at Rafaela. Her body fell. He ran to her body and cradles her slowly growing cold body. Rafaela raises her hand and touches his faces. "Y-you k-kn-now A-argus...M-may-be h-hea-v-ven w-will s-send--a-an-gel-" She said as she breathes her last as her hands fell limp.

"Rafa! Rafa!" Argus shakes her body as his sight blurs due to tears... "Wake up! D-don't leave me alone! I-I d-don't want to be alone..."

"Well, done saying goodbye? Your turn.." That was the last words Argus heard as darkness filled everything.
