1 Chapter 1: I am a what?

My name is Mal Mackenna, 18 years old and living an extremely boring life where everything is not normal for me. I am a troublesome child. Nothing ever goes smoothly for me, I picked up fights but no I am not a bully. I get teased by people for not being a "normal" kid in the neighbourhood. Well what can I say, i could see weird things everywhere. So weird that people would say I am crazy. Well not to say weird for me since I could see things the day i was born. As you expected it, I could see ghouls, weird looking animals and many weird people which I don't know how to describe it. Because of that, nobody likes me...except my best friend Layn Storm. She is the only person that never finds me weird and would always stood up for me. Weird thing is, she believed every single word I said on what I saw, even my parents would not believe my words, but Layn, she just listen.

Enough of the introductions. We'll skip to the part where my life totally turns around. One day i woke up in the morning doing my normal routine getting ready for school. "Mom!! I am going to school. Won't be back for lunch." "Be back before midnight!" said my mother in the kitchen. "Good Morning Mal!!". Layn was waiting outside my house as usual. " Morning Layn" I replied with a tired tone. The both of us started cycling to school.

"Brrriiiinggg!!!" The sound of our school bell rang, which indicated the start of our first period. The both of us went to our lockers. Then there they are, my worst nightmare and my eternal nemesis Mandy and her gang who wouldn't even kill her to just stop disturbing me with her annoying voice and attitude. "Look whose here, the weirdo. Hahaha. Does this poor little girl still see monsters or ghosts everywhere?" said Mandy. "Shut up Mandy, before I tell Zack that u slept with another guy the night before at the club." I replied with a smirk. " Don't you dare!! You don't have any evidence against that!!" Mandy replied with an anger tone. I took out my phone and show her the picture I took, well basically a ghoul friend of mine took it with my phone n gave it to me. Well because I could see them, I make friends with some good ones. " Well look what we have here. If you don't want this photo of yours to get to your lover boy, then back off and don't disturb me." Mandy gave an angry look and stomp off with her girls.

"Well that was one hell of a scene. Where did you get that photo. I never recall you going to night clubs?" Layn question me with a curious look. " Let me guess, a ghoul or a monster friend of yours took the picture with your handphone?". " Yup!" I replied. The day in school went on smoothly for some weird reasons that there were no monsters or ghouls around to disturb me. There is a weird feeling at the back of my mind. Looking out the window I saw a man dressed in all black, wearing a long black coat and a black hat hiding behind a tree looking directly at me. My skin starts to crawl, in a blink of an eye I saw that guy disappear.

"Hey!!What's wrong? You're not paying attention in class." Mandy look at me with a worried look. " Its nothing. I thought i saw something outside." In the back of my mind, who is that guy in black? I have a feeling that it means trouble. My hearts starts to race. School ended in a flash. Both me and Layn started cycling home. The weather suddenly turns dark. We started to cycle faster as it was about to rain. But what happened next was not what we expected. The sky turns dark not because it was going to rain. It turns into a weird shade of black with purple shades in the sky. Something was not right. I saw Layn's expression changed. " Mal we got to run!!" said Layn. " What!!?? Why!?" I question with a worried toned. " Now is not the time for question. I will tell you everything later. Now you need to follow me. We need to go somewhere safe!" Layn said in a worried tone. Without asking further, I followed her quickly. The next thing I know I hear a loud roar coming from the back. I turned around and saw a huge monster that I never seen before. It has a head of a bull and a body like of a human but covered in furs.

It charged right towards our direction. " Mal run now!!" Layn screamed. Layn stand infront of me holding a white staff. " Layn!!?? What? Why are you holding a staff? What is the meaning of this?? And what is that!!?" " That thing is a minatour. It's coming after you. You have to run. Go towards that old library, I will meet you there soon. Hurry!!" said Layn. " NO!! I am not leaving you here alone!! We'll go together!!" without hesitating Layn shoot a bolt of light towards the minatour and send it flying.

" Hurry! I can only delay it for a few seconds. We have to get into that library!" said Layn. We both sprint with our lives towards the library. We ran inside the library, Layn started chanting weird languages and turning weird knobs at the library wall. "BOOM!!" The sound of the library door burst open. The minatour charged into the library. Suddenly a white flash blinded me. It was so bright that it incinerated the minatour. The next thing I saw was a pile of golden dust and a man standing infront of both me and Layn. It was the same man that I saw standing under the tree earlier dressed in all black. " You?" I said.

" Greetings ladies. How was your day? " said that man in black. " Good Evening, Mr Principal. Do you think what we've been through a second ago could be considered a good day. If it's a yes then i would say this day sucks." said Layn. " Hold it people!! I am right here!! Right now I couldn't barely recognise my that own best friend that I know since childhood is suddenly holding a white staff and BOOM a guy in a black just shows up an incinerated a monster! WHAT ID HAPPENING HERE!!" " Well first of all let me introduce myself, I am Principal Jacob Zawawsky. You may just call me Mr. Principal. Layn here is a protector. We are from an underground organization that is called The Orb. We specialized in handling these so call special cases where these existence from a different dimension enters our world. You here Miss Mackenna are a lady fill of potential. You are born as an Orb, a powerful one too. That's why u can see these mystical things and there are very much attracted to you as your powers are very powerful. You see the more powerful you are, the more you have to control it. If not your powers will leak everywhere to the extend that you attract these mystical beings to come and eat you for your power" said Mr. Principal.

I became dumb founded for a minute. I could believe every single word that came out from that guys mouth. Me? A weird girl like me is a power what?? " Hold on a second mister. I think you got the wrong person. I am just a..." " A girl which can see and interact with mystical beings, ended up being chased by a large bull headed monster just a minute ago. The yes you are an Orb. An Orb is to describe people like us that could see these mystical beings. Because of our ability, it is our job to protect our world from being destroyed. Therefore you, Miss Mackenna are an Orb." said Mr. Principal.
