25 Grandmother (2)

"Hello, Anne. How are you?"

"Good morning Granny. I'm doing good. How are you today?" Anne smiled at the old woman who was approaching her with her walking stick. Anne got acquainted with this grandmother as they usually pass each other to walk and head towards the resting area in the hospital. She was hospitalized due to her deteriorating age. It was only normal due to her age.

"I'm fine. You know I can't stand just laying inside the room and doing nothing." The old grandmother gave a hearty laugh as she said this.

Anne approached the kind elderly. "You shouldn't push yourself too much. You know that you are still recuperating." Anne said full of concern in her voice. This grandmother was one of the few people who approached her first. It was not because she was a model before, but because she wanted to have a chat. That was the grandmother's past time inside the hospital. She did not like staying in her room while watching television. She preferred talking with the other patients or going around the hospital.

The grandmother took Anne's hand when she approached and said, "It seems your therapy is working. Your steps are more stable." She gave a small nod while giving Anne a compliment.

Anne felt touched that the grandmother noticed this which made her hand grab the old woman's hand tightly.

"Come, dear, let's sit over there and have a chat." The place the grandmother pointed at was not far from where they were. Anne accompanied the grandmother, it was still early before her therapy starts so she decided that spending time with this kind grandmother was better than idling away on her own.

The grandmother made a grunting sound as she sat down. "Ahhh, it's hard getting older. Even sitting down becomes a pain sometimes." She said and gave a wry smile.

Anne could not help herself and gave a wry smile too as she said, "That's why you should not push yourself too hard." Anne reprimanded the old grandmother, but it was said full of concern.

"Aish, when I was younger, I used to climb up the mountains to gather herbs. This is nothing." The grandmother said with a proud voice as though she was able to see clearly her once young and healthy self.

Anne could only shake her head. This was not the first time she told the grandmother to relax more and stop pushing herself but she would only reply the same way.

The two spend the time just like that. The grandmother especially liked to share stories about her children and grandchildren. Anne would listen to the side and accompany the grandmother just like that.

Anne had never met her grandparents. They died before she could even meet them, therefore accompanying this old grandmother felt like she had experience having a grandmother herself.

"Oh by the way Anne. My grandchild who is the same age as you is still single. You will make the perfect couple." The grandmother said in a teasing voice.

Anne gave a sigh as this was not the first time she mentioned this. "You know that I'm still married granny. Your grandson should find a single woman to be his wife."

"Aish, you said that you will get a divorce in the future. So what's wrong with me putting my grandchild out there before somebody else snatch you. He he." The old grandmother continued.

"Shouldn't you look for a girl who is not divorced and normal..."

Before Anne could say more, the grandmother said something that surprised Anne. "So what if you are divorced or if you are in a hard time in your life at the moment. From what I see, you are a kind, hard-working and determined child. Don't say that you do not deserve to be together with my grandchild, or any man for that matter." She said sincerely while looking at Anne's eyes. Her wrinkly face which showed the passage of time creased as she showed Anne a warm smile.

Anne's heartfelt warm with what the grandmother said. She was close to tears as her eyes started to moist.

The grandmother tapped her hand gently while saying, "There, there…"

Not long after, they heard footsteps approaching them. The grandmother looked up then said, "Oh, it seems you have a boyfriend that's why you were refusing to get together with my grandchild." The grandmother said laughingly.

Anne suddenly looked up and said, "Huh?" she did not understand what grandmother meant.

The grandmother pointed at another direction and said, "Look that handsome man is approaching us."

The man slowly approached them and greets the two ladies sitting on the bench.

"Good morning." His voice sounded nice but when the two stared at his face once he was near.

The two creased their eyebrows unable to say anything. The old grandmother's eyes were twitching and her mouth looked like she wanted to say something, but she held herself back as she did not know the man personally.

On the other hand, Anne quickly said, "What happened?"
