Chapter 1The letter

I gazed as they eased the coffin into the ground, I have been in trauma since grandma died a week ago.

She was the only family I had, the only one I knew. Her demise was a tremor but the letter she left behind was additionally startling.

I always believed I was an orphan. I thought she was my family. She used to tell me tales of my supposed mother, who was her daughter. I always assumed my parents left me not by choice but because of the car accident that killed them.

Her letter affirmed that my whole life, I was inhabiting a lie. I had read the letter countless times that I knew it by heart.

"Dear Silver,

I write this letter not to break your heart but because I know am dying and before I die, you deserve to know the truth. Despite what you read in this letter, I want you to know I love you and you are an extraordinary miracle to me. You gave me not only a purpose to live but also hope unless I would have been lost to sight.

Seventeen years ago, I was in the kitchen when I heard the cry of a babe. I came out only to find an adorable newborn wrapped in a bloodied silver veil at my doorsteps left for me to find.

You have always been lovely even when you were so little, covered in blood. It was apparent that you were just given birth to. You hadn't even been cleaned up yet.

Till this moment I still wonder how you got to my doorsteps and why you were left for me to find.

After taking you inside, I discovered you were clutching a silver necklace, the name Annalise was engraved on it and inside the locket was a picture of a beautiful young lady.

She looks so much like you except she doesn't have your remarkable features, your sliver eyes, and your white streak of hair. She is a blonde with brown eyes, but you have her smile.

After cleaning you up, I didn't know what to do with you. I intended to inform the police, in case your family was searching for you.

I was on my way when I received a call that altered everything, my Veronica had just left my home to go back to the city where she lives with her husband and 10 months old daughter, Jessica was involved in a car accident and they all died. I was shattered, Veronica was my only child. I felt I had lost everything.

None of them survived, I had no daughter, no son-in-law, no granddaughter.

I delayed taking you to the police for two weeks to settle the funeral preparation. When it was time to give you back on the way to the police I realized I couldn't, you had become my purpose for living.

I was already connected to you and regarded you mine. I took you back home and chose to name you Silver Annalise Jacobs. Silver because of three things, one was your unique silver eyes, the other was the veil you were wrapped in was sliver, and because of the silver locket.

Whereas I called Annalise because I think that's your biological mother's name.

Please don't let what you read here change you or how you feel about me.

I know was to consider taking you to the police in case your family looked for you but I constantly thought of how bloodied I found you that there is a very dark dangerous mystery to how you got to me.

You are nevertheless my granddaughter even though we are not related biologically.

Don't loathe your biological family because I think whoever left you there had no choice. The lawyer would give you the locket and blanket, keep it, it's yours. I love you and want you to lead a good life, make sure you go out, make good friends, and be happy.

If you want to look for your biological parents talk to the lawyer I left a trust fund especially for that purpose. Once you are eighteen everything I own is yours, use it as you seem fit, I trust your decision.

Make sure you are good to Mrs. Jackson, she would be your guardian when I am gone. You know she lives alone don't rebel and make her life difficult. I love you always and forever.

Love Grandma"

I kept wondering why grandma lied to me all my life that Veronica was my mother and I am her granddaughter.

Why she made me believe my parents were dead, well they could be.

I wonder if it is because of my weirdness that my parent abandoned me, many things have gone through my mind.

I wonder if my weird silver eyes terrified them to give me away without even cleaning me up.

Or is it my weird ability, I found out early am stronger than normal, I lift things normal people with my weight wouldn't be able to lift.

All my life people call me a freak except few people, most are scared of me, while few pretend not to be.

Only my grandma had never shown signs of fear for me.

The tears I have been holding in since the beginning of the funeral because I didn't want people to see me break, I fell to the ground sobbing loudly begging my grandma to come back. Mrs. Jackson held me and try to comfort me.

Even after I found out my grandma and I are not biologically related, I still love her like never before and consider her my only family, am not going to ever look for my supposed family because to me am still a Jacobs, I am still Silver Annalise Jacobs and nothing is going to change that ever.

I let out a bitter laugh. “It’s ironic, isn’t it? You spent years making my life a living hell, and now you look at me like I’m the very air you breathe.” Lennox’s face fell. “Olivia, it wasn’t supposed to be like this—” I cut him off, my eyes blazing with anger. “Oh, but it was. You wanted me broken. You wanted me to suffer. And I did.” I paused, my voice trembling. “But not anymore.” Louis, who had been silent, spoke softly. “Olivia, we—” I shook my head and took a step back, putting distance between us. “No. Whatever you think you feel, it doesn’t matter. It’s too late. You had a choice. And every single time, you chose her. Over and over again, you chose Anita.” Levi shook his head. “We were wrong.” I met their gazes. “Yes, you were. And now, you’ll have to live with it.” With that, I turned away, refusing to let them see the tears burning in my eyes. •••••••• Olivia Parker was once the cherished daughter of a respected Gamma—until betrayal shattered her world.
