17 Chapter 17: This is The Start

"You will like this store I choose for you. Trust me!" She yelled out as we dashed towards where she wanted to go...

As soon as we reached the store... there it was... a display of.. a picture of a phone... with a model. AND NOT JUST ANY MODEL.

"MEGHAN!? IS THAT YOU IN THE PICTURE?!" I pointed to the picture.

"I guess there's no point in really trying to hide it." She chuckled softly, placing her hand in her pocket. "I am the brand ambassador of this phone. Well, technically I'm only bringing you here so my brand gets more customers!" She giggled

SO BASICALLY SHE JUST OFFERED TO PICK MY PHONE SO THAT SHE WOULD GET CUSTOMERS FOR HER SPONSOR?

"So your goal from the start was to get me interested in buying the phone you endorse?" I said to her, biting my lip with skepticism in my eyes.

"Oh don't think of this as something malicious!" She pats my shoulder. "Also don't make it seem like I only made friends with you due to a phone! I actually made friends with you since we'll be going to transfer to the same school!"

Those words put me a little at ease... but.. Lawrence did mention about a feeling he got from seeing Meghan... could this be that sneaking suspicion?

"Hey! Don't give me that look! I assure you the phones are actually pretty good. You probably wouldn't believe it since I endorse it but I actually like the phones! SO PLEASE PLEASE GO AHEAD AND TRY IT!"

Why do I get the feeling that this is more of an advertisement rather than helping me pick out a phone? I took a deep breath, clearing my mind. "Sure. I don't think there is gonna be any harm in picking out from that store."

"Great! You'll totes love it!" Meghan said smiling to herself as she led me to the store while grabbing my arm. I look around and different types of smartphones were displayed in the vicinity. The area was as cool as ice and it all looked so futuristic... I've never seen these things before.

"Here! Use this voucher so you can get a discount from buying!" She hands me a piece of colorful paper... I guess I could use this a coupon or some sort...

She then shows me around the store. "This is where they display all the phones! You can go ahead and test them and pick which one you like best!"

I got close to it, scanning my eyes from the phones... looking at these labels.. what are these processor jargons that I've never heard of... and these phones look identically the same... how are they even different... this one is black and this one is black again.. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE WITH THESE PHONES.

"Seems like you having trouble?"

"Yes... I am.. I am dying from agony trying to pick a phone. I'm not really familiar with any of these things...so would you perhaps prefer to choose the phone version yourself? I'm not very tech-savvy as people say it."

I've never even owned a phone in my life. Let alone use any device that commoners use... I honestly prefer reading books and studying to better myself. I have no idea with this social media jargon.

"Okay! I'll go ahead and pick your phone for you since I don't really think you'll be good at picking one... now let's see..." Meghan puts her hand on her chin as she scanned through the phones.. "You said that this was your first phone right?" She turned around to clarify something.

"Yes.. this is indeed my very first phone."

"Hm.. well I'll probably get a phone that's very easy to use for you since that'll be your first. Although I'm curious. How were you able to survive without wifi or phone in that matter." She chuckled.

"I just never really saw the need for a cellular phone. I was provided everything in the ca-" I immediately stopped myself from talking as I was about to say castle.

"What was that? I didn't quite hear you about the last part."

"Oh! It's just that we never really saw the need for it. Considering we came from a middle-class family. We don't really have the money to spend it on those kinds of things. Good thing that our parents allowed us to buy a phone since we are transferring." I explained to her. Giving her an excuse. I mean back at the castle, I could have asked for it and I would get it but I never really saw the need for it.

"I see... I guess I'll keep the price in mind! I'll choose something cheap and something that's practical to use! For school purposes that is!" She smiled as she went back to picking out the phones.

My eyes wander around the room as she continued picking phones. The other people were just sitting down. A man was sat down in a chair along with an employee, fixing their phone or whatnot. Another was a child playing on the testing screens they have displayed while his mother watched him not to break anything.

As I turned to the other corner. I was met by a barrage of colorful phones! I was dumbfounded at how amazing they were. They were different from the bland black that these phones at the bottom have. They were beautiful. They stood they're very unique with their floral designs while others looked like street graffiti but nonetheless they looked spectacular. They had any kind of designs... and they were all just hanging around with any care in the world?! Why are these phones treated worse than the ones that are black?

"Hey." I tapped Meghan's shoulder, getting her attention. "Why don't we just buy a colorful phone? I don't know why black phones are popular and they had to be displayed in an extravagant fashion but I think those phones over there would do nicely for me." I pointed towards the display from the other side of the room.

"Uh...." She said awkwardly giggling to herself. "Those are phone cases... those aren't phones..... they aren't actually just accessories..."

"What? Huh? A phone case?"

"A phone case is where you put your phone in. It kind of serves as protection and it can be used to modify your phone to make it look to your liking. As you can see..." She fetches her phone as an example. "My phone has these bunny ears at the top. Along with this rabbit sticker at the back of it. It's not actually part of the phone but it's a decoration." She shows her phone which was adorable.. the texture feels as soft as a rabbit. It's almost like you're grabbing one.

"Oh.. I see.. so it's just a decoration! My mistake! And here I thought it was a real phone.. so that's why these phones look so bland. The phone cases are what make them unique to the person's choice."

"By the way! I picked out a good phone for you! Let's go ahead and go to check out!" She said to me as she had the phone she chose for me in her hand.

We got to the cashier and paid for the phone with the credit card. The staff is actually very nice to me and they treated me really well as a customer. Although a part of me wondered because the other customers they never really gave any attention to... I think it's because I'm with Meghan that's why they were acting all nice and dandy with me.

As we finished up paying and I finally got my phone. Meghan turns to me and pats my shoulders. "We should pick out a phone case! I think your phone is a bit bland as you said it!"

We decided to take some time in carefully checking out all the phone cases... although only one particularly caught my eye. A phone case that was black as the night sky. That mixture of color that shined like the northern Aurora Borealis I've seen... it was breath-taking.. that it almost made me shed a tear.

"I finally found what I want! This one looks great! I'll buy this one." I touched the phone case I wanted.

"Ooh! Good choice! That one looks beautiful" She says cheerfully pointing at another phone case. "Hey! I found the phone case that your brother would love!" She says jokingly.

"Hm? What?" I turned around to see what she was point at.

"Hey! How about buying this fries phone case? I think Lawrence would like this one very well!" She giggled.

"Ya! I guess I'll buy that when.. well he has his phone that is. Anyways we should go back to meet him! The flight is going to happen soon! Thank you so much Meghan for helping me pick!" I gave her a big hug.

"You're welcome! I'm glad I was able to help! See you at school alright?!

That's right... school is coming soon! I hope I can get along with everyone! I guess I'm going to have to wait to find that out!
