11 Maintanence

Silence welcomes us with its utmost trait. The absence of people adds to the quietness. The parking lot remained bland-looking even after all these years. White pillars were installed to support the upper level of the block. The floor was just a normal grey cement. The pillars were equipped with emergency phones and cameras to prevent car thefts. Even after the Treaty of the United Nations, greed still consumes peoples. It serves its purpose of storing staffs' and students' transportation. On a normal day, the cars parked would lighten up the atmosphere. Staffs tend to use fancy and colorful vehicles.

Our steps linger in the parking lot while we were wandering inside the parking lot. Rahim follows me from behind, sometimes poking my body to make me laugh, I didn't. I walked ahead of Farina, trying to get a hold of what she was searching for. I look at her face. Her eyes fidget, searching for something.

"What are you searching for?" I asked

"Nothing. Just wasting your time," she made the mood intense.

"What the- did you just... Uhh..." Rahim burns from behind.

I look at her, perplexed. "Is she picking a fight with Rahim?" I thought.

She erupted in a burst of laughter. "NO NO! I was gonna go to the garden above us.

Rahim and I sighed. We both look at each other with a smug look. Then, we laughed together. Farina watches both of us laughing in delight. After that, I look at the ceiling. An artificial garden was built on top of it. The one mentioned by Farina. The garden was built as a recreational facility to boost the morale of students and teachers while generating revenue to pay for the school's maintenance.

"You both go first," I asked them.

"Where are you going?" Rahim was curious.

"Take a look at my motorcycle."

"I want to go with you," Farina begged.

"You sure do stick with him aren't you, simp," Rahim ridicules her. "You need to take care of her. Make sure the cameras doesn't take anything sus," he winked his eye.

"Yeah, I will. Oh! Turn on the sprinkler if it's not on. It malfunctioned yesterday."

He nods. He leaves his trails of footsteps as he walks towards an escalator. I look at Farina.

"Shall we go, princess."

"Just finish with it already."

We walk towards the place I placed my motorcycle. The bike was placed among other bikes. I pushed a button on the motorcycle logo, the motorcycle glowed with white lights. It still works even though the bike was made in 2014. The motorcycle was my father's. He's not using it anymore since he bought a new car last year from his business profits. Cars produced in the last 5 years have been very efficient and durable since it doesn't use petrols anymore.

Petrol prices were high after The Great Shortage. It led to a cold war in most countries because petroleum growing scarce. Of course, the UN would be enraged. They called influential nations to solve the crisis. Fortunately, the crisis was resolved after my country, America, Russia, India, China, UAE, and Brazil achieves the same resolution. Thus, the Treaty of the United Nation was established.

After the treaty, petrol is not an option anymore since they have a better substitute. Electric-powered vehicles have become a new revolution in the transportation industry. It led to the creation of new renewable power such as plasma energy and nuclear fusion. The collaboration of countries around the world made the production and innovation of energy grew exponentially. It is also available to be utilized anywhere.

Following the flow of the world, I changed the engine of my motorcycle to an electric one. It was powered using a mini nuclear fusion reactor. Blue glows radiate out of the mini nuclear fusion reactor as I turned the motorcycles on. Showing that it functions properly. The motorcycle revs as I turn its handle. Suddenly, a weird noise can be heard from the motorcycle engine. The blue glow suddenly turned orange. I turned it off as I was shocked.

"What's happening?" Farina asked

"I dont know. It seems theres something wrong with the engine," I replied.

Farina took the water bottle that I tucked beside my bag. She opens the reactor fuel intake. Then poured the water.

"You forgot what happen when your motorcycle out of juice, right?" she demanded an answer.

"Uhh..." speechless. I forgot that my engine would turn orange once its 'fuel' was used up.

I stood up, patting my uniform. I smiled sarcastically. Months of not riding the motorcycle made me forget how it operates. I grabbed the water bottle from Farina's grasp and tucked it into my backpack. I turned the motorcycle back on. The reactor glows blue again.

"Well it's settled," I said.

"Then let's go to meet Rahim," she grinned.

I turned the engine off. I swept my hand against the surface of the motorcycle. After that, I left behind. Unsure whether I'll have the time to use it. I walk towards the escalator.
