151 Lucas' Memories (I)

Julia glanced at him, "I'm an investor of this show now. I invest to make money, which means I have to avoid scandals. As long as she can make money for me, I don't care what she says. Besides, I'm not the one who suffered."

Marvin thought that he had learned something new!

She was radiating golden rays in his admiring eyes.

The rest of the recording went smoothly and it was finished at dusk. At Lucas' insistence, Julia went back in his car.

It would take several hours from Sichen to Country D, even without a traffic jam. It had been a long day, so they didn't talk in the car.

Lucas pressed the button to roll down the screen, shutting out the noises. It got quieter when they were alone.

When they waited for the traffic lights at the intersection, Julia leaned against the window and saw an old couple cross the road leaning on each other. She sighed.

Lucas followed her gaze, looking ahead. He pursed his thin lips and asked in a low voice.

"Do you regret?"

They both got stunned. This question sounded familiar.

After a long while, Julia recalled that on the eve of her wedding, Lucas had asked her the same question on a night like this.

It was after the banquet. Lucas was drunk, asking her angrily, "You know well that Ford doesn't like you and he only marries you because of the promise. Won't you regret?"

She replied, "As long as I don't give up, I'll have his love in the end."

Thinking back, how foolish and naive she had been.

She gave up before Ford fell in love with her. She couldn't wait, was reluctant to wait, and couldn't afford to wait any longer.

Lucas was exasperated by her stubbornness, saying coldly, "If you keep persistent, you will be hurt."

Looking back, he was absolutely right.

Julia took a deep breath and said softly, "I don't regret it."

After all, how could she give up if she didn't try?

After a while, Lucas asked, "Then... do you still love him?"

There was a moment of silence. Julia knew who he was talking about, but in her trance, she seemed to detect a slight tremor in Lucas' low voice.

She involuntarily turned to him, finding him staring at her. His black eyes reflected the lights outside, as if they were dazzling stars. His gaze was so focused that Julia felt a little embarrassed.

Lucas kept his gaze at her, persisting, "Do you still love him?"

Julia pursed her lips and said resolutely, "I don't love him anymore."

Crisp and certain.

She was wide awake now. Her love started from an unequal position, which was doomed to failure.

Lucas still kept his eyes on her. The neon lights shadowed on her face, seemed to bring out her inner weakness. His heart trembled unexpectedly.

Heaven knows, when he heard her say 'I don't love him anymore', he was elated!

He had never thought about it before, or dared not think about it.

He recalled the first time that they met, and that was long before Julia met the others.

When he was riding a motorcycle past the corner that day, he did not notice the little girl that suddenly appeared. When he saw her, he forced himself to turn away, falling off from the motorcycle. Fortunately, he had a good protection and was wearing a helmet, so he was not injured except a small scrape on his elbow.

She hurriedly rushed towards him, wearing an old shirt that had been washed white. Her face was small and fair, making people want to protect her at a glance.

She struggled to help him up. He was able to get to his feet without help, but he suddenly didn't want to.

After helping him up, the little Julia took out an old handkerchief from her schoolbag, trying to bandage him, but the butler rushed over and pushed her to the ground.

The butler pointed at her face, scolding angrily, "If anything happens to our young master, you can't afford to compensate."

But Lucas interrupted the butler, "It's not her fault."

Only after he was helped into the car did he realize he forgot to ask for her name, but he saw Sichen printed on her school uniform.

He instructed the butler to investigate.

He met her again before the butler came up with the report, but it was a wrong start.

In those days, they went to the Green's for luncheon every month, which was intended for them to build networks as the guests were all respected enterprisers.

Ana was the only girl among them, so they spoiled her.

He saw her crying alone in the room, so he went forward to ask. From her intermittent description, Ana told him that her younger sister, who had just returned, was obedient in front of everyone, but kept bullying her secretly.

Being young and frivolous, Lucas claimed that he would take revenge for Ana. He placed a bucket of water at the entrance of the dining room, and asked the servant to delay informing Julia to come for dinner, intending to get everyone to watch the practical joke.

When Julia came in, the bucket of water was accurately poured all over her body. She was maturing physically in her teens, and the drenched clothes brought out her curves. She screamed and squatted down, holding herself.

Ford was the oldest and most authoritative of them. He got slowly to his feet, taking off his shirt and covered Julia, and went out without saying anything.

After that, Lucas felt regretful when he saw her, but it was far too late.

He walked over, trying to apologize. His lips moved but no sound came out. Finally he managed to say, "You...I didn't..."

Julia remained squatting. She glanced up at him and then went out wrapping the shirt.

He would always remember her glance, not frustrated or angry, only disgusted.

She did not care about those things happened, but she simply detested them, detested him.

At that moment, he only had one thought, and that was, he was finished.

Afterwards, he thought of many ways to apologize, buying her gifts that girls would like, but he couldn't see her at all.

She never seemed to go to their party.

Back to school, he found they were in the same school, which made him happy for a long time. But every time when little Julia saw him, she would take a detour or turn back without giving him a chance to talk to her.

Later on when he mustered up the courage to explain to Julia, he saw her declare her love to Ford.

That day, the sunshine was just right. Little Julia lowered her head slightly. The expression on her face was the shyness he had never seen before. Tugging at Ford's clothes while blushing, she said sheepishly.

"Ford, I like you."
