The ice giants were led by Grundroth, while the Asgardians, Miraak found no one he knew.

Miraak took his staff, used it and created black tentacles to seize injured Asgardians and frost giants.
The tentacles were very visible, and soon he was the target of Asgardian swords and spears, but nothing had any effect.
The black tentacles seized 2 wounded men and 3 women from Asgard and pulled them into magical teleportation portals.
Miraak also caught 3 ice giants, so he undid his tentacles

Miraak used restoration magic and healed all 8, then controlled everyone's mind.
Using mind reading, Miraak analyzed everything about the 2 realms, none of the Asgardians were high level but it was enough to learn the location of Asgard.

Miraak then took the blood for further studies, and then made the 8 employees in the library, he couldn't get them out of Miraak's dimension, after all, although Miraak was immune to Heimdall's sight, it would be easy to find the 5 Asgardians
