2 2: dead

Alex's POV:

Ever since I enrolled in military school, I have made it my mission to excel in every aspect of my training. I've pushed myself to the limit, sacrificing sleep and pouring my heart and soul into becoming the best I can be. Being at the top has allowed me to stay within the confines of this institution, and I've grown accustomed to the peace it brings.

However, that peace was abruptly shattered two days ago.

"Keep going, cadets! If you want to survive in this place, you have to push yourselves. Let's start with 200 push-ups!" I barked at the new batch of cadets, eager to instill the discipline and determination that had driven me thus far. But before we could continue, a soldier interrupted, informing me that the chief required my presence.

It's funny how things turn out. The person I had once pleaded with to accept me into the school now holds the esteemed position of chief. And, in a similar vein, it's equally surprising that a girl like me managed not only to survive but to thrive in this male-dominated environment.

I hold the chief in high regard. He has become like family to me, a surrogate father figure who fills the void left by my mother's untimely demise. He has taken care of me in ways that extend beyond the duties of his position. If he were to ask for all my savings, I wouldn't hesitate to hand them over without question.

As I enter his office, I snap to attention and salute. "Chief, you called for me?"

He looks at me with a solemn expression. "Alex, I have some grave news. Your father... he's passed away."

The words hang in the air, and my mind races to process the sudden revelation. My heart sinks, and a mix of disbelief and grief washes over me. "Wait, what? He's dead?" My voice trembles, struggling to find stability in the face of such unexpected loss.

The chief nods, his eyes filled with empathy. "I'm truly sorry for your loss, Alex. Your father was a respected soldier, and he served with honor."

Emotions well up inside me, threatening to overwhelm my composure. The shock of the news reverberates through my being, causing me to question everything I've worked for and the sacrifices I've made. Yet, amidst the pain, a sense of determination takes root. I know that my father would want me to carry on his legacy, to fulfill the dreams he had for me.

Taking a deep breath, I find strength within myself. I wipe away the tears threatening to spill over and meet the chief's gaze. "Thank you, Chief. I will make him proud. I will honor his memory by continuing to strive for excellence."

The chief's expression softens, and he places a hand on my shoulder, offering comfort and support. "I have no doubt that you will, Alex. Remember, you're not alone. We're here for you, just like your father would have been."

With renewed resolve, I square my shoulders and salute the chief once more. "Thank you, Chief. I won't let you down."

As I leave his office, a mix of emotions swirls within me. The loss of my father hangs heavy, but his memory fuels my determination. I am ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead, carrying his spirit with me as I continue on this arduous journey.
