1 Blinding Light

BANG!

CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!

Sounds invaded his ears making his eyes flutter open with confusion but before his eyes could register what was happening a blinding light pierced his retinas forcing him to close them once more. The man quickly placed his hand above his eyes trying to shield himself from the blinding light and it seemed to work because when he began squinting to open his eyes once more he was able to finally see his surroundings.

"Where am I?" He said out loud as he looked around the room and was beginning to become accustomed to the light that previously blinded him.

The reason for his confusion was shown in front of him as he stood in the middle of dozens of people. Many of them still seemed to be asleep while some seemed to have awoken and were in similar situations to his own. One thing that he noticed immediately was that everyone around him was wearing the exact same outfit. Whether it be male or female it didn't seem to matter as they all were wearing a grey full-body jumpsuit that had an emblem on the right side of the chest.

He quickly took his hands and grabbed at his own jumpsuit trying to see if there was a zipper or not to take it off but as he felt around he found nothing and decided that it would be better to worry about the jumpsuit at a later time.

He then looked at the emblem that was embedded in his jumpsuit and saw that it was a black cat with three eyes. The look of it was quite strange to him but before he could ponder on it further there was a loud tapping noise above him.

*TAP* *TAP* *TAP*

He quickly looked up toward the sound and saw there was a large screen projected above him. On the screen there was a small table with a tiny microphone in the middle of it with a person behind it.

The person behind the microphone was wearing all black and the only thing somewhat important about their features was the cat mask on their face. Similar to the emblem on the jumpsuit it was a black cat with three eyes.

The left and right eyes of the mask were a mixture of green and yellow while the middle eye was almost orange in color. It even appeared that there were actual whiskers hanging out from the mask but he wasn't for certain.

"Can all of you hear me?" A distorted voice said through the screen above them. The sound was loud and boomed through the entire space. It was so loud that it even made some people cover their ears slightly which gave the person on the screen a signal that they could indeed hear them.

"Good. I will be the first to welcome you to the Midnight Games. You may be wondering why exactly you're here and I will give you that answer. The reason is simply bad luck. A luck of the draw that you ended up losing. So before you begin frantically shouting nonsense for no reason just know that you're here whether you like it or not and you can't change that now." The person said defusing the growing fire of most people in the area.

However, there had to be one person that outright threw away anything that the person on the screen said and the person ended up being a red-headed teenage boy that was on the right side of the mass of people.

"HEY! YOU BETTER LET US OUT OF HERE! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS!" The kid shouted at the screen above them.

The person on the screen saw this and couldn't help but sigh in annoyance as the kid disregarded any words that he had previously said without even a moment of consideration. The person on the screen then ducked under the table and reappeared with a tablet in their hand.

"You brought this upon yourself." The person on the screen said before pressing something on the tablet.

The kid that was previously shouting with anger suddenly stopped dead in his tracks with one hand still pointed in the air. A moment later the kid began convulsing and shaking like someone having a seizure making him fall to the ground as he continued shaking spastically.

The kid even ended up hitting his leg onto one of the people that ran over to try and help him which made their leg begin convulsing as well making them fall to their knees.

"AGHH! It's electricity!" The person that the kid touched said in shock as they scrambled away quickly. After they got away they just rubbed their leg remembering the previous feeling while the kid was still convulsing.

The kid continued shaking and spasming for about a minute but after that time his body went stiff with his red hair frizzed into a makeshift afro. One guy hesitantly walked over and tried to check the kid's pulse but right before he did the voice on the screen spoke once more.

"You don't have to worry. He's not dead, not yet anyway. Now that the trouble maker is out of the way are there any more of you that has something to say about what I've said so far?" The person on the screen questioned as if daring someone to step forward and do the same thing the kid did moments ago.

Many people glanced toward the still slightly twitching kid and then glanced back toward the screen with fear apparent in their eyes which also made them not say a single word as they waited on the person to speak once more.

After no one else stepped forward the person on the screen nodded and began speaking once more, "Great. Now that you've settled down and there is no one else with questions I will proceed. When I appear above you periodically throughout your time here you may call me The Watcher. If any other names are used then you will have the same fate as that boy over there." The Watcher said making everyone glance at the redhead kid once more.
