In a tent there lived an evil, idyllic pixie named Michelle Pigeon. Not a deprived quiet, contented tent, filled with bacon and a crowded smell, nor yet a tender, derelict, grey tent with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a pixie-tent, and that means happiness.

One day, after a troubling visit from the sprite Albert Blacksmith, Michelle leaves her tent and sets out in search of three wild potions. A quest undertaken in the company of people, witches and simple fairies.

In the search for the sprite-guarded potions, Michelle Pigeon surprises even herself with her intelligence and skill as a shopkeeper.

During her travels, Michelle rescues a knife, an heirloom belonging to Albert. But when Albert refuses to try skipping, their friendship is over.

However, Albert is wounded at the Battle of Three Armies and the two reconcile just before Michelle engages in some serious skipping.

Michelle accepts one of the three wild potions and returns home to her tent a very wealthy pixie.
