55 Chapter 54 – Sports Festival (part 2)

After a couple of minutes of pause for the students that got into the top 42 and of celebration for those who placed high, like Todoroki who got second place, Bakugou who got third and Midoriya who got fourth thanks to a crazy stunt including a lot of mines, Midnight got back on stage.

"After an explosive first event, time for the second event. The suspense is killing me, what will it be?

She spun the virtual wheel of fortune again, getting it to stop on "Human Cavalry Battle"

"A Human Cavalry Battle!"

"The rules are simple, you will each form teams of two to four people and form a horseback configuration. The rider can never touch the ground, the rules are basically the same as a normal human cavalry battle. Except…"

"Your goal will be to capture the opponent's headbands and protect yours, and the points will be distributed based on the performance on the last event. The goal is to gather as many points as you can in fifteen minutes!"

"With that in mind, the forty-second student's headband will be worth 5 points, the forty-first 10 points, etc. The second place's headband will be worth a whopping 205 points!"

"But the first place…Will be worth 10 000 000 points!"

"It guarantees you a place in the last event, but if I were you, I'm not sure if I'd go for it, just think about what she did to that poor obstacle course. Try at your own risk…"

"You have five minutes to form teams, then the event will begin!"

The students immediately started to talk to each other and form teams, but it was clear that they were hesitant to team up with Kyotaka.

Until a girl with pink hair that looked like a mad inventor (and was probably one) came toward her and became the first member of her team.

Then, she was also joined by Hagakure, not so surprisingly, as they made a pretty good team together, being invisible and completely silent makes one person very hard to find.

The final member of her team was, surprisingly, Momo, who also joined her.

Now, this formation was extremely solid, they had raw power with Kyotaka, stealth with Hagakure, and utility with Momo and the crazy inventor girl, so I had no doubt that they would be able to win this thing.

Especially when I saw the inventor girl take out a jetpack out of absolutely nowhere…

After a few more minutes of planning, it was time to start.

"START!"

The instant the start signal was given, the immense majority of the teams converge toward Kyotaka's team, who started to fly using a jetpack, avoiding them all quite easily.

But what almost nobody noticed was that Hagakure was let loose, they didn't take her with them when they started to fly, and soon, distracted teams would start to lose their headbands, an invisible girl is pretty hard to see.

This seemed to mostly discourage the other, especially when Momo created a paraglider for them, but there were still a few enthusiasts that followed them, including the team of a metal boy from 1-B.

HE would regret this, especially when I saw, using infrared vision, Hagakure getting close to the leader of this team.

In fact, the strategy that they were going for was that the main team would attack another team, distracting them, while Hagakure would be stealing their headbands.

And it worked, Tetsutestu's team, the leader being someone with a quirk that allowed him to transform into steel, lost their headbands without even realizing it.

When Kyotaka's team got back to the ground, she used high-frequency sounds to cause them intense pain, distracting them very well and allowing Hagakure to sneak by and collect their headbands almost too easily.

And moment's later, the 10 000 000 points team was gone into the air once more.

.

The second event continued like that for a few minutes, the strongest teams not really fighting each other yet, more leaning toward the other, weaker teams, who were easier to deal with.

The smart people didn't try to approach Kyotaka, after seeing how easily she got rid of Testutesu's headbands, but there weren't only smart people, so she didn't even need to move a lot to collect points, they moved toward her.

Everything was going well, too well in fact, so it was no surprise when a slightly angry Bakugou and his team found themselves in front of Kyotaka, ready to fight.

Unfortunately for them, Kyotaka was absolutely not interested in fighting them, she after screwing with their sense of balance with her quirk, buying themselves a bit of time, she left by fleeing into the air once again, dodging Bakugou's angry explosion and Sero's tapes, who was part of Bakugou's team.

Bakugou's team continued to chase them, the angry blond already had enough points to pass comfortably, but he wanted to be first, and the best way to do that was to get the 10 000 000 points headband.

He was relentless in his chase, as Kyotaka's quirk was exhausted since the stunt she had made in the first event, she couldn't get him off her back. She still wasn't in real danger of getting her points stolen, though, as long as she only had Bakugou after her, she would be fine.

Alas, everything good must come to an end, and soon, Kyotaka's team was forced to land onto the ground, in the middle of all the teams, making themselves the biggest target at the moment.

They all converged toward her, knowing the ridiculous amount of points she had accumulated since the start of the Cavalry Battle. Everyone wanted a part of the pie.

At that moment, a robotic voice announced that there was only one minute remaining, motivating the teams even more.

Even though Kyotaka and her team were powerful, they were not powerful enough to singlehandedly defeat most of the students from both classes, so she was now in a bind.

The jet back they were using earlier was momentarily not working, from a hit it had received earlier, so they could not easily leave, but the pink-haired girl and Momo were currently repairing it, it would only take a couple of seconds, seconds they could not afford.

The team were getting nearer and nearer by the seconds and Kyotaka started to fire sound blasts and high frequency sound to fend off some of them, but her quirk was clearly getting exhausted from overuse.

The robotic voice announced that there was only 30 seconds remaining, but they couldn't buy 30 seconds, maybe 10-15 seconds maximum.

Kyotaka and her team narrowly dodged an ice spike from Todoki and an explosion from Bakugou, but for each attack they dodged, there were two others waiting for them.

Things were becoming desperate, she avoided a splash of acid by a hair and dodged an attack by dark shadow by ducking.

Only twenty seconds remaining, though the bot strangely didn't announce it…

Momo was hit by Ojiro's tail, nearly tripping her, they were on their last stand.

And…

"TIME UP!"

What? I'm sure that there was supposed to at least be another 15 seconds before the end…

The moment the Time Up announcement was aired, all team stopped fighting and looked disappointed that they couldn't snatch some of Kyotaka's points for themselves.

But her team, as soon as the announcement was aired, they started to fly and leave with the now repaired jetpack, much to the confusion of the others, who still didn't attack them.

Until the voice announced: "15 seconds remaining".

The look of shock and confusion on everybody's face was a sight to behold, and it quickly morphed into rage, but Kyotaka was long gone with the rest of her team, flying away.

Kyotaka had used her quirk, which was Sound Control, to replicate the announcer voice and make everyone believe that the Cavalry Battle was finished, just to buy herself enough time to leave.

I was seriously impressed, I had not seen that one coming.

And Present Mic also had apparently not seen it coming, as he announced, with a surprised and confused voice.

"YOU WERE TRICKED, THE GAME IS STILL GOING, ONLY 10 SECONDS REMAINING, THOUGH!"

"AND…TIME'S UP."

I looked into the leaderboards, and was not surprised when I saw that Kyotaka was in first place, followed by Todoroki in second and Bakugou in third. But I was surprised when I noticed that even without the 10 000 000 points headband, she would still be in first place.

As they landed on the ground, Team Kyotaka looked excessively proud of themselves, but they deserved it, they had successfully tricked everyone at once and held on to the 10 000 000 points while stealing more headbands.

I was proud of her, she had finished first place in two events in a row. That was a serious achievement, and I knew that she could win the third as well.

.

But my joy was cut short when I received an alert on my phone.

Stain had found a new victim…
