5 Rehabilitation

The silky milky white office filled with two presences had terms of interest in their thoughts. The chances of a late awakening of a quirk was a rarity in society. History was being made, villains were in hiding and in no site of coming back ever. The symbol of the piece has come to guard his country once more.

One of the people in the room had a wealthy silk suit that looked expensive, the other was almost the same but was degraded in terms of quality. The one person that had the wealthy silk sat in a seat with a desk in front of him. The other was on the other side standing at a straight angle with a folder opened in both of his hands. This was the secretary, the other was the big boss.

The secretary spoke with an informative tone.

"Ichiban Kettei male, thirteen years old. Awakened quirk "Regeneration" shows really high self-healing, was suppose to be in a coma from an earthquake, though isn't enough for hero work unless hard work is proven."

At first, the boss was excited at the information as he had a call about an hour ago about an incident at a hospital where a teen woke up from a coma. The nurses and doctors made sure the patient was okay and right after they did a quirk evaluation as they had the files of the patient before the incident showing that he was quirkless.

Though his interest shortly declined as he had thought of the quirk ability. It looked like the quirk only worked while the user slept. The patient wasn't completely recovered and showed signs of fatigue right after. It was after all a miracle in how he lived the accident. Therefore he decided to at least keep track of the hospital record.

"I want the hospital to keep track of his recovery to check on how this regenerative quirk works."

"Yes sir."

The secretary went out of the room with the beige colored folder along with papers filled with information inside them. The secretary had a look of interest, he was a history man and he knew that this day was part of history as well. Though not a very big impact someone had awakened their quirk late. He wondered if this was just a coincidence or maybe humans were evolving even more now.

As this was going on a visit was happening at the hospital. A couple of knocks came from the door. Kettei was in his regular hospital bed just watching Spongebob on the hospital TV. At least three adults came into the room. The regular nurse that cared for him mostly. Then his uncle and aunt. His aunt came at him worriedly looking at his state. There was a small scar across his scalp at the moment.

"I can't believe you woke up! I just knew it, you got your tough genes from your father didn't you!"

His aunt was ecstatic while his uncle came closer and told his auntie to leave the room, along with the nurse as well.

"How are you?"

The old man with his glasses reminded Kettei of his late father before.

"I'm doing great, I should be able to get to school in at least three days."

"I heard you awakened your quirk, it must be such a trip huh."

"..."

"Yeah, and I heard you saved a woman and her kids at the accident too from the doctor."

A short silence came through the room, it wasn't the cold type though.

"I support your decision in any career you choose."

His uncle said with a smile.

Kettei as well smiled and hugged his uncle. Nostalgia quickly kicked in when he spent time with his father.

He hugged tighter as he didn't want to lose one of his loved ones ever again he would protect them through hell and heaven.

"Alright alright, your gonna break my back you know?"

His uncle had a painful look right now along with some purple building upon his face.

"Oh! My bad!"

Kettei quickly stopped the hug and put his hand on the back of his head laughing it off.

His auntie came back in and they had small talk until it was the evening and visiting hours were now out. They left him with some food and some of his schoolwork... the food was good but the schoolwork was just a chore. Though looking back it was just basic pre-algebra homework.

He decided to watch TV for the rest of the evening before going to bed in the hospital bed. The nurse didn't have to come in much unless it was to give him some painkillers for the pain.

He usually dreamt weird stuff other than when he was unconscious. It was like an LSD trip in his normal dreams. He dreamed of Shaggy from scooby-doo fighting Goku...

He then woke up as soon as Shaggy was about to-

Knock Knock

"Kettei-san we're coming in!"

The nurse came in with the furry doctor.

"Hope you slept well yesterday, no interruptions?"

"Yeah I slept like a baby, I feel a lot better too!"

"Great, Nurse Joy here is gonna help with you some basic rehab. Tomorrow we're going to see if you either need more rehab or you could get discharged early."

As the conversation went on and ended the nurse helped Kettei get on his feet and went towards the rehab center. They went over the basics of rehab and such and then started the walking one. There were two bars parallel towards each other, metal. The patient had to have both their hands on the bars while trying their best to walk with their legs.

"You got this!"

Nurse Joy was encouraging him.

At first, he struggled, but in his mind, he was actually trying to control his strength from breaking the bars. Today would be a good time to train his control of strength. It looked like he was struggling on the outside so Nurse Joy came in with more encouragement.

"Don't worry you've got this! Never give up!"

It took at least 30 minutes for him to get to the other side of the long parallel poles. Though he did get the abilities of spider-man, he realized he didn't have the same body/mind that came with those quirks.

He didn't have the experience nor the muscle memory. At the end of this exercise, he could now hold back a little more strength than he usually would standing still.

"This calls for a celebration! I'll get us something okay? Just stay here!"

The nurse quickly dispersed out of the area leaving Kettei on the poles.

"You forgot to settle me into a seat..."

He mumbled under his breath, but ignored it as the nurse quickly came back. She had two ice cream sandwiches ready. It was as if she prepared for this...

"You just wanted to eat your snack didn't you?"

"Ahmtumhmrmhm"

Sigh

The day went on the same as his guardians were back after a couple of hours of rehab, they talked and talked more about how the rehab was going and generally how his day was as well. After that in the evening, he decided to make some paper swans. It was extremely hard but it felt nice knowing how much control he had to get to just make one of them.

As he did these workouts he had to breakdown his muscles a lot and they repaired as fast as they could as well.

After that, he went back to sleep. He felt more fatigued today by the exercises he had done. Though progress was shown as well. He was satisfied.

He woke up to the yells of screams from across the hall, it was one of the patients. It seemed the whole hospital was in full gear to save the patient. After a short while, the doctors and nurses came out with sad looks on their faces. The patient had died of a stroke.

He felt more recovered today and even started walking on his own. The nurse was sort of surprised but remembered how his quirk worked.

They went towards the doctor's office to get the paperwork done. They confirmed how his quirk worked and then sent him off. He was close to the mall and decided to call his guardians that he was out of the hospital today. He then said he would be there by dinner time.

He had a portion of free time and decided to call his recently made friend from a while ago on the bus. Scrolling through his contacts he finally found the avatar of someone swimming on the ground.

"Oi Nuki-kun come hang out with me at the mall!"

"... Aren't you in the hospital? Also don't shorten my surname like that, just call me Honenuki"

"Hahahaha! See you there alright?"
