9 Living alone is weird

Ayato opened his eyes as soon as the sunlight came into the room. The first thing he noticed was that this was not his room.

Buy then he remembered that it, in fact, was his room, just not the same house.

He moved out. Right... Still felt weird.

Getting up from the bed, the teen stretched, hearing the bones pop, and finally yawned.

It was too early to do anything and he didn't want to exercise right now.

Walking over to the dresser, he opened it, revealing empty space...

"...Right."

They didn't unpack yesterday.

Sighing, he walked to the back in the corner of his room, taking out a shirt and shorts. Putting them on, he reached inside and took out his toothbrush and toothpaste.

Walking out of the room, he headed towards the bathroom, only dully registering the other room's door open, to reveal a disheveled Rin, her hair a mess and wearing an oversized shirt, his shirt, and shorts, the shirt was too big for her it slipped off one shoulder, revealing a strap of her bra.

Walking inside the bathroom at the same time, he plopped the toothpaste cap open and spread some on his toothbrush.

Looking down, he rose an eyebrow at the extra toothbrush that was extended to him... Shrugging, he pushed out more toothpaste on that one.

Turning on the water, he started brushing his teeth. Today was gloomy, even the weather agreed with him, even though he could probably move the clouds out of the way, he wouldn't if it was avoidable. The weather forecast already had a bad reputation, didn't need to ruin it more.

"Coffee?"

Rin asked, still looking like she went to war.

"Coffee."

___

Ayato was... Bored.

Rin went out to explore, to "Get familiar with the area". He already knew the area, his quirk informed him of everything, so he stayed back.

He had nothing to do, the only thing he could do was train his quirk, his senses to be precise, the smell, hearing, and he would rather not have just shapes of everything when he felt his surroundings with air... But the question was... How?

-Rin POV-

When she came back to the apartment, Rin expected her kinda-sorta-but-not-boyfriend to be bored, be drawing or on his phone.

What she didn't expect him to be doing was Wearing his sleep mask over his eyes while unpacking clothes from his bags, folding them neatly, and placing them in the dresser.

To make things weirder, he looked over at her, down at the bag, and then up at her again. She could feel the deadpan on his face.

"You went shopping? Really?"

She pouted and his mask moved. She got the feeling that he just raised an unamused eyebrow.

She huffed in response, bringing the bag behind her back as if to hide it. Not like he had a sleep mask over his eyes.

"Well, I just wanted to check out some of the shops-"

"-And you couldn't resist."

He finished her sentence for her and she could feel the deadpan intensify.

She pouted.

"Anyway, why are you wearing a sleep mask?"

He stared at her a little longer, conveying that he knew what she was trying to do, but answered anyway.

"I need to hone my senses so I decided to stop using my eyes for a little while until I get the hang of it... And if I don't respond to you just assume that I fell asleep."

She giggled at that, if someone could fall asleep while training, it would be Ayato, after all, he managed to fall asleep during a movie teacher brought into the classroom.

"Yeah, I can see that happening."

He went back to putting clothes on the dresser and she went to her room. Feeling hungry, she only placed the bag on the floor and walked out, heading to the kitchen.

"Wha-"

Before she could ask, Ayato already cut her off.

"Make anything you want! You know I'm not a picky eater."

...She turned around to the door of Ayato's room...

"That's weird, stop doing that."

He laughs at her, what was so funny?! Did he not know how creepy that sounded? He was in another room and spoke up like he knew what I was going to say.

Stupid sensing thing.

Huffing, she silently swore that she would one day find the food that he hated, even if it took her whole life, she wouldn't mind spending the time on it.

-Ayato POV-

"Take it off."

Ayato sighed, this was going to take getting used to, she had been annoying him ever since he sat down at the table.

She even tried to snatch it off a couple of times using the shadows, but the attempts failed, after all, the power behind an attack means nothing if it doesn't hit you. Or in this case, can't reach you.

Smiling at her just to be more irritating, Ayato raised the chopsticks to his mouth and takes a bite of the meat.

"You know... You should try to feel shadows, you know, for more protection."

She rolls her eyes and takes a bite of her own food, huffing slightly in defiance.

"I already learned to make all kinds of shadow shields because you insisted."

She didn't regret spending time on that, of course. It was to keep her safe and he even helped out, but she still thinks that putting spikes on the protective sphere was a bit much.

"I know, but if you can feel someone when they step on the shadow before they try something, it will make your reaction time faster."

She sighed and pointed her finger at him.

"You know, protecting the civilians is a hero's job right?"

His eyes behind the sleep mask were unreadable but his posture did slump slightly, unnoticeable to her.

"Yes, but heroes can't be everywhere and they are still humans."

So were villains, even if some didn't act like it.
