Chapter 9: Memorized Every Quirk!

"Well, so far you're mostly only able to be of use against people who are frequently on camera or that you see in person. But what if I could get you some more data to work with, a lot more data?"

-I hope this guy is as ballsy as I think he is, it'll be no easy task to get the registry, but I bet I can convince him-

"How much data are we talking?" Izuku pretended that he didn't know what Giran was planning, his mind reading was still a secret since he didn't really have a reason to share that piece of information yet.

"Well, if I could get you in front of the quirk registry, could you memorize the whole thing?"

"You want me to memorize every quirk in Japan?"

"Think you could handle it?"

-Holy shit he's actually considering this, this kid is a walking goldmine that looks like a piece of broccoli-

Izuku tried not to take too much offense from the broccoli comment and stayed on task.

"It would take time, I'd be able to retain the information, but that means I'd have to look at every page long enough to memorize it. Which is about a second or two for a whole page right now."

"Hmm, well here's what I have so far. The registry in its entirety cannot be copied except for at very specific locations to prevent it from being stolen by people like us. But, I have a way to get you in front of a computer that will let you look at it"

"Alright, I'm interested. How much time would I have?"

If Izuku was the only person with all this information, he'd get a lot of attention, and that's just what he wanted.

He wanted to be someone people would fear enough to stay in line, and knowing everyone's quirks was a good start.

Plus he was pretty sure that All For One would appreciate having access to that, and pleasing the man was always a good idea.

"That's the beauty of it, you'll have as much time as you want. There's a certain manager who is in quite a bit of gambling debt and about to lose everything. So, we give him a hefty sum to hire you, or at least the new identity we give you. That way no one will question you coming in and out everyday."

"Won't people notice I'm not accomplishing anything"

Giran laughed, "You always make me laugh kid. You have no problem stealing the most guarded document in the country and selling step by step guides for murder, but you're worried that your pretend coworkers will judge you for not getting work done."

Izuku suddenly felt ridiculous for the concern.

"I'll check in with my boss, but I think it's safe to assume he'll be interested in this as well."

"Wonderful, I'll go make sure a gambling drunk doesn't lose his house."

Once Giran stepped out the television crackled to life.

"You've done well Midoriya, this will be a good way for you to train your mind and to gather valuable information. I expect you to inform me of any quirks you believe I should possess."

"Of course." Izuku did not realize he had been listening the whole time and really hoped his surprise didn't show.

Starting the following week, Izuku walked into a government building with an official ID badge, with an unofficial name on it.

Ogata Takeru. It felt pretty random, but he figured that all names were random when you think about it. He walked into the building and was shown to his cubicle by the man he recognized as their ticket in here.

He didn't ask what their goal was, and Izuku could hear that he didn't want to know what he was allowing to happen. He showed Izuku how to access the registry then walked away and didn't look back.

Izuku stayed there through lunch and stayed there late into the night. He had gotten his time to about one person's file every half second to a second depending on how long the file was.

This continued day after day for about a week until Izuku decided this was taking too long and that he needed to up his game.

That night he practiced memorizing two pages at once. As long as he saw it in its entirety he didn't have an issue.

So the next day he found a program pretty easily that had his computer automatically go from one page to the next. He set it to .25 seconds and set up the two screens to go at the same time.

He made sure to never take his eyes off the screens and to pause it every time he needed to blink or rest his eyes/mind.

He kept pushing himself to new limits. By the end of the month he had 2 screens in front of him, 2 documents per screen, each set to go to a new page every .1 seconds.

His other 'coworkers' avoided him after his first few days there. He didn't want to be rude, but realized that was the best way to have them not ask questions.

Whenever they tried to be polite or say hello he either brushed them or insulted them. He laughed and felt a little sad when he found himself mimicking Kachaan.

It took 3 months. But he did it. He memorized the entire registry. He now knew every single quirk user in the country, their name, what they looked like, and how their quirk worked, usually containing pretty detailed notes by the doctor that filled it out.

By the end of those three months his mind was honed and his memorization quirk had been trained and greatly strengthened.

He ended with a set up of 4 computer screens, 2 wide and 2 high, and each page went by after .05 seconds. It also helped him learn to ignore everyone else's thoughts and focus on the task at hand.
